Lande Jewels takes us not only on a tour of streets through London`s inner city, but through some of its thirty-two boroughs, as well, and of course, all in the pleasing form of lively verse which we have come to expect from the author. The books, this one included, are made so much more personal by this fact, it almost seems as if they were bespoke. London being the world focal point that it is, many street names will be familiar, Sherlock Holmes` Baker Street (even though Sir Arthur Conan Doyle furnished readers with a fictitious address for the detective), Carnaby Street, where mini-skirted singer Peggy March so memorably introduced German audiences to The Swinging City`s street with her 1970 hit, “In der Carnaby Street,” and Downing Street, instantly recognized across the globe nearly every time a television is turned on and mention made of the Prime Minister, and even “squares” know that Abbey Road helped spread the Beatles` fame, to name but a few. Come, join the fun and discover the truly unique character of London streets, steeped in ancient history, yet not a bit stodgy!
