I had really high hopes for this one because of the taboo/forbidden relationship between step-cousins. To my displeasure, the cousin thing was basically never mentioned although it was the hottest part of their relationship. The smut was very lite and felt rushed 🌶️ Not sure if Alexa Riley is changing their books up with most of the first smut now in their AR TABOO series.

This is a continuation of the story ‘Snowed in with the Scrooge’ so we already have background on the characters. HOWEVER, the story is so unbelievably short that reading the Scrooge book is almost a must. One thing I was really looking forward to in the story was the man-to-man between Mina’s adoptive father/Apsen’s uncle & Aspen…but it literally never came. What a missed opportunity!

I'm not sure when it started, but these authors have truly lost their touch. Recently, I feel like the authors are currently putting all of their effort into their A. R. Taboo line and their usual knack for writing instalove is suffering even more for it. I don't know what happened, so I'm just grasping at any possible reason for the dramatic decrease in quality. This one felt like the bare minimum was done and they published it when it really needed a lot more meat on its bones.

I would strongly encourage the authors to take a break from writing the lighter stuff or maybe even take a longer break from writing ANYTHING so they can re-group and get back some of the quality that they've lost.

Mi humilde opinión:

Mina y Aspen se conocen de pequeños en Snowing in with the scrooge, el niño que no quiso arrojarle la bola de nieve a la niñita me pareció súper lindo y quería que hubiera su historia a futuro.

A Valentine to remember resultó ser, para mí sorpresa, una lectura súper corta. Sucede en un pueblo pequeño, de amigos a amantes con día de los enamorados. Se entiende que está el taboo de los primos, que no lo son porque Mina es adoptada, igualmente esto no fue un problema o conflicto. Mina esta enamorada de su amigo de la infancia y tras besarlo él se termina alejando y desde entonces su relación ya no es la misma de antes.

Aspen está obsesionado con Mina pero no actuará según sus sentimientos para no crear un problema con la familia hasta que un compañero de trabajo la invita a salir y ya él no podrá contenerse. No me sorprendió que como policía utilizara las esposas, es muy de héroe AR lo que hizo una vez que se da cuenta que puede perderla, le sale la vena posesiva al instante. Lo que sí me pareció raro fue que el steamy moderado pero al ser una historia breve fue entendible.

La verdad esperé algo más pero en general me gustó, hubo persecución, reclamo, romántica proposición y boda al final.

The main characters in this book are Mina and Aspen. They were first introduced as children in Snowed in with Scrooge which featured Mina's older sister Nyah and Aspen's (AJ's) uncle Fraser which means this book may contain spoilers if you haven't read it.

The family lives in the small town of Brightberry.

In this book, Mina is starting a new job as a dispatch and 911 operator. She has loved Aspen all her life but things between them became strained and awkward after Mina tried to share her first kiss with him.

Aspen, the town's sheriff, of course has feelings for Mina as well. He's never acted on them because of the link between their families. His uncle is married to Nyah's sister and the two grew up together. On Mina's first day he gets jealous over finding a local firefighter flirting with her outside. Later he learns that Mina possibly has a date with this firefighter on Valentine's Day. Of course he doesn't approve and states as much but it's finally the push he needs to express to Mina how he feels. Aspen pulls Mina over after she leaves the office and handcuffs her to take her home and make her his.

Cute and short story. This was a short novella with five chapters.

Mina and Aspen have known each other since they were young. Mina's adoptive father is Aspen's uncle, but since they're not biologically related, so I guess it's okay.

Aspen chose to withhold his feelings from Mina, despite the fact that they were both in love. He's a few years older than her, so I get the hesitancy to act on it. But now that a man is showing interest in Mina, he's done holding back. He made it known to her that she's his and he's hers, and no one else will ever come between them. It was adorable and also hot when Aspen became OTT possessive and jealous. 🤭

Anyway, this was still an enjoyable quick read and has a HEA ending with them getting married.

I liked this quick story. It was short but entertaining and enjoyable. Aspen had a very good reason for his actions even if they ended up hurting Mina’s feelings. Mina has loved Aspen for years but didn’t believe that he loved her too. Aspen had been fighting his feelings for Mina for a long time. Once someone else made a pass at Mina he was unable to just watch and had to interfere. Aspen had an over the top reaction to hearing Mina had a date which luckily ended well for both of them. I wish there was an epilogue to see them later on. I recommend reading this book.
