This is THE BOOk in interpretive planning. Lisa's 25 years of practical experience as a planner shines through in a thorough approach that has now been taught with hundreds of professionals through Interpretive Planning Workshops conducted by National Association for Interpretation. It has also become a valued textbook in many college curricula for heritage interpretation.
I read this for my Master's Program in Museum Studies. Lisa Brochu introduces a strategic framework for effective interpretative planning. This is known as the 5-M Model and includes components of Mission, Motivation, Media, Message, and Method. The book gives great tips on how to walk through each of these M’s in the planning process to develop a cohesive exhibition that embodies the mission of the museum and is engaging for visitors. This book is a fabulous resource for interpretive planning.
Not exactly a page turner, but an interesting and helpful examination of just what goes into interpretation at a museum, nature center, historic site, etc.
