Responding to a desperate phone call, Henry Christie stumbles across a gangland-style execution in progress and only just escapes with his own life. One of the murder victims is a successful local jeweller, but the motive for his brutal killing remains unclear. Meanwhile, ex-cop Steve Flynn is unwittingly sucked into a deadly game of kidnap, torture and murder. Then, when a dangerous figure from his past emerges, Flynn finds himself slap-bang in the middle of a bloodsoaked race between rival factions for a fortune worth millions. As Henry pieces the evidence together, he starts to unravel links that ultimately pit himself and Flynn against cold-blooded killers who will stop at nothing to achieve their aims including murdering a cop and his reluctant sidekick.

jeez, talk about fast-paced! And keeping two threads going, in 2 different countries, that tie up neatly takes some doing. Characters a tad one-dimensional, but overall, a satisfying page-turner
Started well, thought this was heading for a four star, but there were spots where my enthusiasm for the story waned - almost like it was written by two people not one! I suspect the character has been developed with a TV series in mind, there seems to be a shelf of other ebooks to pick from in the library. Might try another and see how i get on....
Slightly slow in the build up and then far too fast in the outcome. A page turner towards the end, but not as consequential or interesting as the previous books.
I really enjoyed this book, from an author I'd not previously read. However I did find it somewhat difficult to follow at first, with characters having 'parallel lives'. Not all situations were believable either. I did like the fact that the book was set in real places - which I knew well - and the author had done his research. I liked the characters and thought the story developed well, and I shall certainly read more of Nick Oldham's books. A 'good read'.
