The Sweetest Slice

Her father is dying and her brother is half the man he was...this is no time for romance.

Estelle Harrison has spent the last several years watching her friends find their significant others, including her two younger sisters. She's happy for them, she really is! But nothing seems to stop the ache in her heart for her own Knight in Shining Armor to come rescue her from her broken existence.

With her father's life slowly coming to a close and her brother home wounded from the military, her family is falling apart and she simply doesn't have the capacity to handle one more thing, even if it's exactly what she's dreamed of since she was a child.

Crew Turley is no hero. At least he's never aspired to be, but when he moves closer to family and discovers that Estelle Harrison is still single...all bets are off.

He wants nothing more than to fight her demons and protect her from the heartache she's battling at every turn, but Estelle isn't willing to accept his help. In fact, it feels like the thing she's fighting most is their attraction to each other.

With the clock ticking for her father and Estelle desperately holding her family together single-handedly, Crew knows if he doesn't do something, he'll lose much more than a potential father-in-law. He'll lose the love of his life as well.

If you enjoy heartwrenching, sweet romance with all the swoony Happy Ever Afters you could ever want, you'll ADORE this book full of angst, family drama and love that conquers all.

Pull out tissues for this one! Throughout the whole series we have been seeing Estelle’s father’s Parkinson's steal his health little by little. This book was extra sad because it’s showing the last stages of the disease. Oh how I cried through this. On top of Estelle is caring for her dad, helping her mom, working, she is also caring for a disabled & disgruntled mad at the world brother. Her load is heavy and she doesn’t know how to let others who have equal responsibility carry their share. Enter Crew, the one she liked that got away. He is back in town at one of the lowest times in her life and wants a chance at something more with her.
There is so much sadness in this story but at the same time hope. It really tugged at my heart. It ends well but there is a lot of grief to go through which may be a trigger for some.
I really loved how Crew was there to help in the caregiving. It really was so sweet to see him support Estelle like that. They still carved out moments of peace for themselves despite the situation around them. Very tenderhearted story.
Rating: PG, clean, wholesome, no language, triggers: deals with death and long term illness, amputation and depression, caregiving, final moments with lived ones.

A sweet, compelling story
Sometimes even in the worst of times, something good can grow if we’ll let it. And that is what Estelle needed to learn. Estelle’s father is in the last stages of Parkinson’s and has very little time left. With her sisters married and in their own homes much of her father’s care falls to Estelle. Estelle’s brother is also home but he is recovering from injuries that left him scarred and without one leg, so he also requires daily help from Estelle making her time commitments between work and home more intense. In the middle of this Crew, a man Estelle had met and had an immediate attraction to, comes to town to stay with his family for a month. When Crew sees Estelle he feels the same pull towards her that he remembers from their first meeting but realizes she is overwhelmed. Wanting to have time with Estelle, Crew offers to help her in any way he can. As they spend time together their feelings only grow but Estelle, feels she cannot desert her family, hesitates. So the question becomes. how long can a good thing wait until it withers from neglect? I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

I’m so glad Estelle finally got her story, and what a story it was. She’s stood in the background while her sisters found their perfect mates. As the oldest she feels responsible to take care of everyone else, but what about herself?

Crew comes to visit for his niece’s birthday and renews his interest in the woman he met a few years ago at a wedding. He soon realizes that Estelle is overwhelmed with her family’s troubles and carrying a burden too heavy to bear. She needs someone to step in and care for her. Could it be him?

There is no perfect relationship and this is written in a way that is totally real, deals honestly with loss, pain, and doubt, while still displaying in the characters love and the hope of a future full of shared moments both good and bad.

This is a different kind of romance and I’m fully in. Loved it.

Estelle Harrison, oldest of the three sisters, is working herself to death. Trying to take care of her dying father and her brother who returned from the miliary minus one leg and covered with burns, she sees no future for herself. Crew and Estelle Harrison met at Crews' brother, Mason's wedding several years ago. When Crew comes to Seagull Cove for a month long visit, he wonders how he ever returned to California leaving Estelle behind. Their story is filled with emotion.

I loved Estelle from the first book and was hoping there was someone for her. This book is sad because Estelle’s dad is nearing the end of his life. Crew coming into Estelle’s life at this time could be bad timing (because she is barely holding this together) or good timing (because she needs someone to support her and help her make it through).

ARC reader here! I honestly have no words for this book! It was beyond amazing. I can’t go into details without sobbing but this book hit so close to home. The way the author was able to write this with such an impact was incredible. It’s never a disappointment reading their books!

So good

Omg, I cried a few times during this book. I loved it! This family is so sweet and deserves happiness. Estelle gave everything to her family and Crew made sure she was taken care of.

I met Estelle's parents in The Gingerbread Inn series so the loss was really hard. Estelle has been the sister I have been waiting to read about. While Crew and Estelle are very different they both wanted to help people and often took on more than their share of responsibility. Loved how he made her feel "seen". Family can be our greatest source of love and stress. Love this book and this couple. One of the sweetest endings. Looking forward to her brother's book.

Finally Estelle gets her own HEA but it’s not without difficulties, sadness, almost debilitating grief and emotional struggles. Crew is patient, loving, caring and kind with her struggles and trials. He has his own learning to do and eventually they come together. I’m sad about some of the necessary events in this story, no spoilers, but know that they only make the book more realistic and true to life. I received a copy of the book for free and this is my own opinion about it.

I loved this book! There were elements in it that made me cry since I have gone through similar things as Estelle. I saw a lot of myself in Estelle since I am also the oldest. As the oldest, Estelle had to navigate through some hard things but ultimately she learned that she shouldn’t do it all herself. This story touched me and I definitely recommend! You just might need some tissues nearby. The story has a beautiful ending and I can’t wait to read Antony’s story!
