Violent, deadly uprisings are breaking out, seemingly at random, all across the Confederation’s sphere of influence. The response by the powerful Confederation Fleet has been swift and decisive, but for every planet they restore order to, another erupts into chaos.
Omega Force is working along the frontier worlds when they’re forced to come to the aid of a longtime ally and soon realize that the two events are not unrelated. The deeper they dig into the occurrences, the more Captain Burke finds he doesn’t know who he can trust as he tries to unravel the mystery and not only exonerate his friend but keep himself, and his crew, alive.

Omega Force Series:
Omega Rising Omega Force: Soldiers of Fortune Omega Force: Savage Homecoming Omega Force: The Enemy Within
The series is improving as the author finds his feet, and this is the first book with some real political intrigue, and a compelling (if not entirely original) plot.
Alas, the ending is, yet again, left feeling somewhat rushed, partly due to the sudden appearance of a new character who’s sole purpose is to deliver a clunky message that is essentially “don’t worry everything’s sorted!”. Too often the author seems to write himself into corners that he lazily resolves with a MacGuffin or Deus ex Machina, and this book continues that trend.
The series continues on with the light-hearted, fun sci-fi story-telling you'd come to expect from the previous books. If you liked the first few you won't be disappointed with this one.
Before you start this book, please realize it is the fourth title in the series: you will need to read the first three books in the series in order to understand the back story and the characters.
The author picks up right where he left off with book one of the series. While this isn’t a hard science fiction tale or over complex from my usual science fiction reading stack it was enjoyable, continues with the same smart-alecky characters, and I am looking forward to the next one of the series. I picked this up for 99 cents during a Kindle promotion vs. the normal price of $3.99, and I believe I received more than $3.99 worth of entertainment value out of it: if you enjoyed the first book of this series I am confident you will like this one, also.
Between trying to stop the riots of several planets and helping Kellea and Crisstof Dalton, Jason and his crew are going from one end of the galaxy to the other, not knowing who he can trust anymore. This story was pretty exciting and, as always, had some crazy snarky lines throughout the book.
No romance and the F-bomb was used 5 times.
As for the narration: Paul Heitsch continues to do a fantastic job with all the male characters BUT he could do a little better with the females. Just sayin'
Ok, this is a most a novella. Short, wide spacing of lines. About 1/3 the words of a real novel. Still, the characters are well known to readers, and the story moves along. Nothing clever or tricky here. The twist is obvious from miles away. So, it's worth the couple days to read it, but nothing special. Just another paint by numbers space opera. Not his best work, but he cranks 'em out, and people read 'em.
“Omega Force: The Enemy Within,” is Book 4 of the series by Mr. Joshua Dalzelle. It is character driven, fun and quick romp of a low brow space saga.
The lack of competent editing does take a toll on the narrative, as the apparent uncontrolled use repeated and incessant “catch phrases” abound, are fully unaddressed.
“The Enemy Within,” is recommended and was fully read via Kindle Unlimited.
I use ratings to decide which books I am going to buy, and I recently decided I am partially responsible for inflating the ratings on books. Either they were 5 star or 1 star. I decided to use the star rating more objectively as follows:
★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will). ★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this. ★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad. ★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time? ★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.
I continually remind myself that these books are set in the 20th Century, which accounts for the slang used. Even the various species on the ship have begun to adopt those colloquialisms. Once I remember that, I find these stories interesting and entertaining. Just the idea of a ragtag group of different species working together as 'guns for hire' makes for some interesting and exciting stories.
Another super fun read in the Omega Force series! Really enjoyed the scene in the space suits jumping from one ship to another! I love that when I read these books, I feel like I can see all the action. They really need to make these into movies! As always, looking forward to reading more in the series.
Another great book in the series. this revolve around another unique story line and great character set. It kept me interested in all events through out the book.
Only think is missing in this series is addition to the crew because then it will be interesting because some point an ally character also will be able to join the crew.
I just finished book four and am anxious to begin #5. This story keeps me turning the pages and not wanting to put it down. The main characters are funny and unique and each individual story never disappoints. I’ve retired to the beach so I spend many a lazy day reading and relaxing.
This book like the ones before leave you want to read more. The characters are well written and plot not obvious. The is a little less hard science then Joshua’s other series, and this is more like a Star Wars universe with hundreds of different alien cultures. If it says anything I’ve read the first four book in a week and going on the start the fifth now.
The crew of the Phoenix is faced with trouble while their benefactor is in custody under trumped up charges. They have to work hard to figure out what is going on without their usual support available and then act upon the intelligence they can come up with.
Another good read from Joshua Dalzelle. Jason and his band of miscreants still fight the fight with off the cuff plans and familial jibes. Good mix of action suspense and humor.
An outstanding military sci-fi action novel. If I could give it ten stars I would. Non stop action and adventure. With great interaction between the characters that will make you smile. I'm addicted to this series and I look forward to more.😀
Good old fashioned swashbuckling fun in a space opera. This is more like it. I was underwhelmed by OF3 but his picks up the energy of the first two books. The characters get better and the interaction seems more natural as well as being more fun. Not a deep read, but well worth the time.
Sometimes, the greatest enemy can be found close to your inner circle. A great storyline that expands the characters you have become familiar with. Yet another exciting journey into the reality of the Omega Force!
Love the Omega Force series, I've read them all at least twice over. The story is immersive and exhilarating. Over the last 3 books Omega Force has created a good support system in the galaxy, but now that's under attack. The mystery and intrigue here is so captivating.
I'm following this book series. I admit. I'm hooked. The author has polished the main characters and formed a genuine, cohesive team. Which adventures that I want to read about!
This was just as good as the other books in this series so far. Lots of action in space and on different worlds . This series has a great storyline and is fun to just let yourself go and imagine being a part of.
I've read several other story lines similar to this. I'd rate this my 3rd favorite. Still a damn good read. The writting skills of Mr. Dalzelle are top notch. Page turners from front to back.
