My Husband's Affair

We promised forever. But only one of us will leave this marriage alive…

I stare at the messages between my husband Rob and another woman, their plans to run away together bringing tears to my eyes as I stand, trembling, in our luxurious apartment. I thought I had the perfect marriage.

As our three beautiful children sleep soundly in the next room, I think about our family holidays, our romantic date nights and the day Rob proposed to me. In the last few months, I haven’t complained about his late-night meetings or got jealous about his weekends away. I trusted my husband. But now I’m questioning everything.

I read the messages again and my world shatters. Because I know this woman. I’ve let her into my home, where she’s bounced my rosy-cheeked baby on her knee. She knows things about me even Rob doesn’t know…

Then I find a new one from my husband: ‘Leave my wife to me. I’ll deal with her.’ My blood runs cold.

He thinks he can get rid of me so easily. He thinks he can just tear apart the life we’ve built. But when he comes home to his perfect wife tonight, I’ll be putting together a plot of my own.

His mistress isn’t his only secret, and I’ll stop at nothing to protect my children and my life…

A completely gripping psychological thriller about unthinkable betrayal by those you love the most, perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, Claire McGowan and The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose.

War of the Worlds.

You’d think that I’d be tired of the many domestic thriller themes read, but here I am happily ensconced again in marital mayhem courtesy of My Husband’s Affair.

Jen as the unsuspecting good wife and Mia as the ignorant mistress. When will their paths collide? Because you know it’s going to happen.

Mia, living on hopium, doesn’t suspect an already married man never taking her around to his place. It’s always a hotel. My Kindle received several exclamations of “Get your head out of the sand!” and similar while reading this . Living in an alternate reality, Mia wants to replace Jen in her upscale life and has glossed over the red flags.

And then there’s executive Rob with his lucrative salary having his cake, eating it, and calling all the shots. Rich? No, he’s another character living in his own mind which compounds the already ripe scenario.

And we’re just getting started. Out of this world scheming by all parties propels the plot into slightly OTT territory but adds to the fun and I was on board!

WOWZA!!! Talk about getting whiplash while reading! My Husband's Affair is a gripping, twist filled, shocking book that had me turning the pages at warp speed wanting to know what was going to happen and be revealed next! Ruth Heald delivered a jaw dropping page turner that delighted, shocked, and kept me on my toes!

Jen and Rob are married with three young children. Her world is turned upside down when she reads the messages on her husband's secret phone. He and another woman are planning to run away together. She knows he has been working late a lot lately, having to go out of town to woo new clients, but that was all for work, wasn't it?

Her friends are there for her. Give her a shoulder to cry on while encouraging her to leave....

Woohoo! This book kept me on my toes. I felt for Jen and booed and hissed at her husband, Rob. I thought I knew everything that was happening in this book, but Ruth Heald kept turning the tables and leaving me and her characters reeling.

This book was a lot of fun to read. I loved the drama, the mystery, the secrets, the lies, the betrayal, the twists, turns, and revelations. Whew! What a ride! But that is what I have come to expect from Heald. I have enjoyed now enjoyed 6 of her books. As with the previous books that I have read by Heald, My Husband's Affair was wonderfully written, captivating, gripping and addictive!

4.5 stars

Really solid read, good character development and an interesting story but the end just felt so rushed so what would have been a 4* read turned into a 3* as it just felt very far fetched and random 😂

Although the book's "only one of us will leave this marriage alive" premise was compelling, the book failed to wow me.

The book's beginning was strong but the ending was waaay too far-fetched.

It seemed like the author was throwing random "shock factor" events into the storyline to make readers gasp but this tactic backfired.

I prefer a higher degree of realism in domestic thrillers.

I listened to the audiobook read by Tamsin Kennard.

It was narrator Tamsin Kennard who helped me make it to the finish line with her outstanding narration.

This was a superbly, written, psychological thriller. I mean it. I almost gave it the full five stars.

Jen and Rob are the golden couple. They are a great looking couple, living in an upscale building with all the wealthy frills, they have kids in a great marriage and they’re just all-around happy.

Or are they?

You see fellow readers, Rob has a problem. The problem is keeping it in his pants.

And let us not forget the third main character. That main character is a delicate and Meek brunette with long, dark hair and A secret. That secret is that she’s madly in love with – Rob.

But how can that be? Her golden guy is single! Or so he tells her. She is the woman he’s been waiting for all his life or so he tells her!

What happens when a man who lives two different lives find the lives intersecting with each other?

There is also something going on in the building where they live. Things just don’t feel safe. The building passed a safety inspection but why are there so many strange incidents then(

This book was so darn fun. I really mean it. It was a book that was not at all defined by its twists, and though it did have twists, The twist didn’t overpower the book like many other thrillers.

You will feel like you know these people. You may like some of them, or perhaps you will dislike all of them. They are multifaceted. This book is just a good old fashion, psychological thriller that reinforces the fun of the reading experience as it relates to books in this genre.

I think it’s good to go into this one, knowing as little as possible, which is why I tried to do a general overview without giving too much away.

This one I just gave myself over to, and threw myself into enjoying the book.

I admit, I haven’t had this much fun with the domestic thriller genre in a while.

But this one was a book.m that I found myself hooked a couple of pages in. There is no filler and no boring parts and like I said the word that comes to mind is fun.

I have been having a lot of problems with psychological thrillers lately, but I’m pleased to say I had no such problems with this one.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of My Husband's Affair by Ruth Heald. This was a fascinating read. I enjoyed it a lot and it held my interest. It was a quick easy read with many twists along the way. It kept you guessing all the way to the end. The reason it lost a star for me was that many parts of the story were reiterated and that got monotonous for me. I have never read a book by this author before, but I definitely will now. I would recommend this book to those who like domestic thrillers. A 4 star rating for me.

Ruth Heald. You know how to make characters feel real, so much so that I hated (yes I said hated) the husband. He acts so innocent and makes Jen believe he is the perfect husband but yet he is a WOMANIZER.

I loved this book. The writing, the twists.. everything. It's an amazing psychological thriller. I completely recommend

I have read several of this author's books and enjoyed every one. This is a tale of a wife's reaction to finding out her husband is having an affair. But that's only half of it... she gradually uncovers a trail of deceit that threatens her home and her family and her close circle of friends. But what to do? Her answer is dramatic and she play an absolute blinder - the climax to the story had me holding my breath. No, she won't, will she? You'll have to read it to find out! Highly recommend.

I adore Ruth Heald. You can usually read her books in one sitting, and this was no different.
This was another fantastic twisty, gripping, and suspenseful read. The characters were fantastic and perfectly written.
Some of the drama had me gasping out loud and releasing the breath I didn't know I was holding.
Loved it.

Sometimes the hunter thinks he has and knows it all, because his prey is not suspecting the slightest thing. In his mind he has figured everything out and they see themselves as the kings of the world.

But when the hunter becomes the prey and they are not aware of it, that's when it gets even more thrilling.

They say that everyone hides a killer inside and most of them remain inside, but I  do understand that, when provoked enough, that hidden part can reveal itself and strike in order to protect yourself or (a) loved one(s).

The author created great characters: Rob, the despicable one, Jen, the lioness, Mia, the naive one and Natasha, the kind one.

I always applaud it when people get their comeuppance, but this also means that innocent people are punished as well.

The author has build a nice smoke screen and I did not see through it until the end.

A very fascinating story that kept me glued to the pages. I thought something beautiful was going to develop between two people, but I do see why one of them changed their mind. I would do too, if I would witness what the other one was capable of... 5 stars

Thank you

We promised forever...but only one of us will leave this marriage alive...

I've read all of Ruth Heald's books and she is one of my favourite authors...although I have to admit that this is not one of my favourite books of hers, it is still a thrilling read that keeps you guessing throughout. This one is about a wife's reaction to discovering her husband's affair...and the lengths she will go to save herself.

Jen lives a charmed life. Married to Rob, a high end estate agent in West London, with three children - Lottie, Jack and baby Ruby. And together they live in the penthouse suite of an exclusive apartment block for which Rob had the contract to sell from the developer. Although she would love to return to work, her life is filled with the children and making their house a home.

It all starts little by little. Discrepancies with their apartment that should have been safe but turns out are not. And then she smells an unfamiliar perfume on Rob's shirt...but writes it off as having been in contact with a client shrouded in the stuff. That has to be it.

But the late nights. The trips away. It's just client drinks and business, right? And then she discovers a burner phone, a passport, thousands in euros...and the messages. Rob is planning to leave them. But that's not the half of it. Rob has painted himself into a corner and thus delivers Jen an ultimatum completely out of left field. Think canoe man. But Jen has other ideas...

Another intriguing read by Ruth Heald that had me guessing throughout. The ending did let it down in the end as I'd expected something a little more jaw-dropping and unexpected. But it was still a thrilling read with a character you just love to hate!

I would like to thank #RuthHeald, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #MyHusbandsAffair in exchange for an honest review.

Shenanigans abound in this book.
A domestic thriller featuring a seemingly happy couple, (aren’t they always) with three kids. Jen is the perfect wife to Rob, taking care of the children, cleaning the house and cooking. She epitomises the phrase “ A woman’s work is never done”. Rob, well he works hard and essentially feels that is all he needs to do. Only Rob isn’t working all those late nights he says he is. Honestly this man made me see red. He was so manipulative and gaslit Jen whenever she questioned him.
Told in a dual pov timeline we have Jen’s present pov and Mia, the other woman, whose pov starts 8 months prior. The chapters flick between the two of them and it kept me hooked. I did figure out early on what might happen but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment. The story was more a study of what can happen in a marriage as opposed to being concerned with gotcha moments.

Jen gave up her career to be a wife and mother, only to be subjected to lies, betrayal, and manipulation from her husband, Rob, A great slow burn. There is buildup and character development throughout the first half of the book. There are twists and turns as well, while we watch the plot develop. The pace slows down in the middle, but then you’re hit with a big twist. From there, the book picks up and starts speeding towards the end! The second half of the book had me in a complete chokehold. Everyone was trying to one up each other, and I had no clue what was going to happen. I also had no clue who was going to come out on top in the end. I had my suspicions, but they weren’t right. My first read by this author, but it won’t be my last.

Jen has an almost perfect life, married to Rob, a successful estate agent, 3 beautiful children and living in a penthouse apartment. But when she mistakenly sees a text on Robs phone she accuses him of an affair, of course he denies it but this is where the story becomes more intense.
A real easy fast paced page turner. Just when you think you know where the story is going but of course in pure Ruth Heald style nothing is as it seems as the tension mounts.
A great read and I'm grateful to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this advanced copy, my opinions are my own and I'm under no obligation to leave them

Jen is happily married to Rob with three beautiful children and living in a luxury penthouse apartment in London, nothing can destroy what they have, can it? Then she sees some messages between Rob and another woman, planning for him to leave Jen and his family behind and her world falls apart, especially when she realises who the other woman is, but what exactly is Rob planning and, as he doesn't realise she already knows everything, he needs to be very careful as she's one step ahead of him and has plans of her own...

My Husband's Affair is the latest domestic thriller by this author, a story that depicts, on the surface, the perfect life between this couple and their family who appear to have everything they want, but scratch that surface and all the secrets come spilling out. This is a tale of lies and deception, with authentic characters that you will either love or hate and I know whose side I was firmly on throughout this intense read. I've read a couple of Heald's books now and you can always rely on her to bring you an intriguing read full of twists and turns and this one was no exception, I was hooked from start to finish. Another great story which I highly recommend!

I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

This was my first title by this author and I enjoyed it! Solid 3.75.

This one took a little bit to pick up for me, but unexpected twists throughout, and interesting character dynamics, kept me engaged until the end. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, Heald threw another curveball. I enjoyed the complexities of each character and getting to learn their secrets and see certain events from their pov. I did find the ending somewhat anticlimactic, but all in all this was a fun read.

In her author’s note at the end of the book, Heald said she enjoyed placing her characters in absolutely crazy situations.
I can attest to the craziness in the book.
The author rips some story lines to shred and I didn’t know what was going to happen next.
I figured out fairly early parts of the plot and how that tied the loose ends up.
Rob is a despicable cur and deserved everything he got.
I wouldn’t have had any empathy for Amy like Jen did, absolutely none,
I cheered for Jen throughout the entire book, I waited for her to act and boy did she.

Oh the scandal! Now this had me hooked. It took a wee bit to get comfortable with all the characters and all the povs but they were all very well written and brought to life. The individual povs certainly gave the characters dimension and humanity. The lies, love, secrets, revenge and more just kept creating the most jaw dropping moments through this book and I loved every second if it! It's well written and just so perfect for summer!!!

Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the book #MyHusbandsAffair by #RuthHeald. This is the ultimate revenge book about a husbands affair. But who is getting rid of who on the end?

This domestic thriller dives into marriage, friendship and betrayals. It kept me interested until the very end. And even though I figured out some parts, most of the twists were unpredictable.

The events unfolded slowly but surely. The characters were very complex and well developed, some of their actions were very thought provoking.

My Husband's Affair by Ruth Heald is a completely addictive thriller from an author who very quickly established herself as a must read for me. Ms Heald, you have done it again.

Jen has a comfortable life with her husband Rob and their three beautiful children. But Rob's philandering has never really been a secret, and Jen's closest friends tell her she needs to leave him, though she continues to turn a blind eye to his many lies.

This was a thoroughly gripping read, due largely in part to a multi-dimensional cast of characters. You will be rooting for a satisfactory comeuppance from beginning to end. 4.5 stars

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

Name of Book: My Husband’s Affair
Author: Ruth Heald
Genre: Domestic Thriller
Publisher: Bookouture
Pub Date: April 10, 2024
Rating: 3.3 Stars
Pages: 352

Jen is married to Rob a loving husband; they have three young children- baby Rudy who is one-year old baby. Jack is five and Lottie is the oldest. They live in a beautiful penthouse. Jen is a stay-at-home mom, which is a full time job. Rob has a well-paying job as a property developer.

Although she loves her children she was hoping to go back work as it was something that she enjoyed. Jack and Lotte would both be in school however, baby Ruby came along and hiring help just was not practical.
The penthouse has a beautiful view and there is a glass panel terrace so they can enjoy the view. While Edie was prepare dinner and the children were entertaining themselves but baby Rudy went exploring and ended up on the terrace where she an opening in the glass panel just big enough for her to crawl through. When Jen found her on the edge she able to get her back in away from the edge but has been terribly frightening. When Rob came he told him that the builders needed to come out immediately fix it. He agreed but other things needed repaired due to inferior construction. Rob soon found he and the company was going bankrupted with all the repairs that needed to done.

Jen is crushed when she finds Rob’s burner phone and then opens it to find messages between Rob and another woman with plans to run away together- stating he will deal with his wife. . Jen’s world has crashing should she divorce Rob- if so, she would be penniless.

Rob doesn’t know Jen’s suspicions but does have an idea on how to save their finances.

I read a lot of thriller and expect big reveal - of course; Ms. Heald comes through with some surprises.

Story was better than 3 star good but just wasn’t 4-star great – it did keep me curious.
However, we know from the blurb on the cover
”We promised forever… but only one of us will leave this marriage alive.”
The revenge in this Domestic Thriller just wasn’t all that clever - nothing earth shattering.

I do like Ruth Heald and will read another!

I read The Nanny back in September 2022 and became a Ruth Heald fan. I gave that story 5 stars and I give very few 5 star ratings! It was a nice surprise read for me! I went into that story expecting a typical Nanny accused of taking the baby she was caring for but it was a lot more!

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for April 10, 2024

< spoiler> To me it should end with a cliff hanger - although Amy got to see her daughter it would be interesting to see where this might go and it would really have been VERY interesting if Rob surfaced and didn’t drown ~ like in “Fatal Attraction!

4/5

❗️I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily❗️

This wasn’t as fast paced as I’d hoped, but I still enjoyed it. It does get a bit confusing with the multiple POVs, and found myself having to check was pov I was reading a few times. It had twists I didn’t see coming and that’s why it got a 4. It was addictive and exciting. I would recommend reading this book.

𝘽𝙇𝙐𝙍𝘽:

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

My Husband's Affair tells the story of a seemingly perfect marriage with infidelity under the surface. Jen Peterson is a dutiful wife to her husband Rob. She is a stay at home mom who takes care of their home and 3 children while Rob works as a real estate agent in London. While they've drifted apart a little over the past few years with the general chaos of life, Jen never could have imagined that her husband was keeping secrets, including an affair.

Some thrillers are a painfully slow lead up to a lot of action unwinding over the course of a chapter or two. Not this one! I liked the pace of the story and how it unfolded throughout. The story itself was very intricate which I also enjoyed. I liked that there were things at play other than just the affair too, kept things interesting. And lastly, the variety and complexity to the main characters was great and I liked that each of them (for the most part) got a chapter from their point of view.

Side note, Ruth Heald also did a great job showcasing the exhaustion of being a stay at home mom. I feel like so many people, fictional characters included, glorify and glamorize what it's like to be a stay at home mom. But that is a full time job in and of itself.

This may be the first novel I've read by Ruth Heald but it definitely won't be the last!

Annnndddd… he won’t be missed.
The book is a psychological thriller where we can see many different pov.
The heroine has been married for almost a decade to her husband, an estate agent, and they have three children.
She suspects that he is having an affair.
She also has two bff that are there for her.
There are many misunderstandings with many characters, and I enjoyed it all because it’s uncovered step by step.
The heroine is a strong woman, a stay at home wife and mother, that really sacrificed her career and her life for a family, since she was also a very successful estate agent when she met the hero.
She gave everything up because of him and her kids, while he’s just a very selfish, spoiled and amoral man.
It’s all very realistic, the hero is some kind of average man, he thinks that since he’s the breadwinner he’s entitled to everything else, and this sadly happens very often in real life.
The heroine is a kind and sweet woman, but she’s neither a doormat or a pushover. She will do what is best for herself and her three children.
Her husband is so deep into his lies that ends having many problems with many different people, and not just his wife.
In the end he has what he deserves, and as I said, he won’t be missed.
This was interesting and entertaining, not very angsty or with a lot of suspense but there were some interesting unexpected twists that I didn’t expect.
