A must-read book for anyone interested in the debates in and around Indian cinema. Virdi excellently traces Indian cinema from post-independence to 1990's liberalisation, highlighting the change in films and their ideologies throughout the decades. It also has interesting commentaries on gender, sexuality, caste and class-- and anyone researching on Indian cinema will find this book to be immensely useful.
