THIS BOOK WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN 2003 UNDER AUTHOR NAME DEBBIE RALEIGH

Despite her impeccable lineage and delicate beauty, Amelia Hadwell has no interest in social demands - not when she must care for her brother William, whose otherworldly manner has convinced their family he is mad. Determined to care for him, Amelia is horrified to learn that he has been escaping to the East End, where a shocking series of murders has terrorised the neighbourhood - and that her neighbour, Drake Ramone, is convinced William is the culprit! Desperate to safeguard her brother, Amelia accepts the offer of a hiding place from Sebastian St. Ives, a reclusive scholar to whom William has taken a liking. Drawn to the reserved, silver eyed stranger, she is amazed when he reveals the unsettling reason for Drake's interest in William - and the danger an amulet in Amelia's possession represents. Yet nothing is as shattering as the realisation that although Sebastian belongs to a world she cannot imagine, she has surrendered her heart to him with just one kiss...

My Lord Immortality by Alexandra Ivy

In this world Alexandra Ivy has created, Nefri, an ancient vampire has created the Veil whereby vampires had to stop drinking human blood and live separately from humans. The consequence of not drinking human blood meant that the vampires also lost their hunger for passions borne in humans, which included lust. Opposing such restrictions is a segment of vampires who appear as villains in this novel.

Sebastian St. Ives has been gladly spending his life acquiring knowledge since the Veil. Until he meets Amelia Hadwell in London, saving her from the dark force named Drake. Consequently, Amelia brings back Sebastian’s forgotten passion and desire.

The book was a nice ordinary paranormal read. There was some tasteful descriptive language used throughout the novel. Superficially, I also enjoyed the fact that Sebastian was celibate for a long time. I dislike promiscuous heroes and as such this novel was great in that sense.

On the other hand, I found the conversation a bit stilted. I am no stranger to old English speak, having read many historical romances, but the language used here was not my cup of tea, I found that it detracted me from the pleasure of reading this novel. Another thing that diminished my enjoyment was the way the novel proceeded. It was the novel’s unhurried pace. Considering that this novel is a stand-alone novel, and not one in a series, I would have enjoyed it more if more had happened in the novel, if there was more depth to the plot and the characters. The ending was also a bit predictable - as to the leverage the villains used against Amelia - it was obvious from the beginning.

3 stars.

The heroine in this book is virtually a clone from the previous book.

Being the last book in the trilogy, the denouement involved all three couples and we had a bit of a hidden conspiracy. Apart from that, this has been a very tame sort of PR.

However, I think this trilogy might have helped in giving birth to the far superior Guardians of Eternity series, and for that I'm very grateful.

Cover & title - 4 out of 5
Favorite line - "You will not lose me, Amelia. I intend to devote an eternity to loving you" She tilted back her head of offer him a tearful smile. "Only an eternity?"
Favorite Character - Amelia

Actual rating - 3.5 out of 4, i rounded up.

I started this book not realizing it was a historical paranormal romance (what a genre, ha!) and since i never read historical books (by choice) i was seriously worried i was going to hate it. Strangely enough i didn't, i guess this is because it wasn't too historical. Another strange thing was enjoying a book with no nookie in it! This book was a seriously case of good clean fun but not in a bad way :)
The story is in a series but i read it as a stand alone, i think anyone could :)

I would recommend people who enjoy light romance & historical paranormal

I just finished this series. It is kind of a prequel to the Guardians of Eternity series since it features Nefri and the medallions that are important to keeping the Veil safe. The characters in each story are very interesting and well written. The series was enjoyable to read, but I love Ms. Ivy's series, Guardians of Eternity, so much better and look forward to the next Guardians book. I would recommend this series if you would like a fast and light read.

My Lord Immortality by Alexandra Ivy
Immortal Rogues Book 3
Drake Ramone wants the power of moving about mankind, living as he was meant to with all the pleasures. Nefri has put a veil up between their worlds but he was determined to get the medallion that would remove that veil so he could live as he was meant to.

Sebastian St. Ives has been made the guardian over Amelia Hadwell. She has received one of the amulets, part of the medallion. He knows Drake will try and get it from her anyway he can and it is Sebastian’s job to stop him. He just didn’t expect himself to be distracted by the beautiful human.

Amelia Hadwell wanted to protect her brother, William, so she took him away and went into hiding. Her parents were embarrassed of William and wanted him in Bedlam. William was a kind loving soul and didn’t deserve to be locked up. If only he could understand
enough about the dangers lurking outside of their home in the night. Amelia has no idea that the old gypsy woman had given her more than a beautiful piece of jewelry. She don’t know that there is a dark world out there where creatures of the night truly exist. She can only see her love for her brother. The love that may end up leaving her dead.

Join Amelia and Sebastian as they fight against a dark force. Adventure, suspense and romance keep this book moving forward while keeping the reader on the edge of their seat.

The Veil, a protection between the world of humans and the world of vampires is in danger of being taken down, leaving the world at the mercy of vampires who wish to conquer, rule and enslave the human race. Three vampires, The Immortal Rogues, are poised to stop this evil plan. MY LORD IMMORTALITY is the third story in this series about Sebastian St. Ives, one of the protectors. Sebastian is a scholar, content with his chosen life of seclusion until he meets and must protect Amelia Hadwell, that is!

Amelia is a young woman who has given up her life to care for her 'slow' brother, William. She also unknowingly possesses an amulet that is part of the Veil's protection.

As Sebastian gets to know Amelia and William, he finds his work as protector starts to melt his heart in ways he has never felt.

While not a long read, the story is well-told, the characters are very likable and strong of character. William is a gentle soul and adds to the story's warmth.

MY LORD IMMORTALITY is a great afternoon read in front of the fireplace!

My Lord Immortality is the third in the Immortal Rogues series and is a reprint with the author’s real name on the new cover. This is a Paranormal/Historical Romance that is actually pretty clean and only slightly violent. This series seems to be a prequel to Ms. Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity series.

Now anyone who knows me knows that I am not a huge fan of Historical Romance but as soon as I saw this book was being re-released I just had to snatch it up! I had already purchased the first two and this gave me the perfect opportunity to read them all together.

Amelia is a strong female and her love and compassion for her brother is a wonderful aspect of her complete character. Sebastian is intriguing and I don’t feel that we had enough of a chance to really get to know him. I also wish we could have seen the couples from the previous books a little bit more in this one.

I did enjoy the plot and how the ending came about. The books are not very long but are very enjoyable to read! They are an interesting addition to one of my favorite series.

My Rating: 2.5 stars: Finished it - take it or leave it (C)
Originally posted at THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT

Our story begins with a prologue outlining the history of vampires in the world - and that the greatest vampire, Nefri, created a veil to hide their race from humans. This put an end to bloodlust and created a docile, intellectual vampire race. However, there are some that do not agree with Nefri’s rule and have entered the human world to recover the Medallion which gives Nefri her power. The primary antagonist, Drake, is one such vampire, and he hunts down Amelia, keeper of one-third of the Medallion.

My Lord Immortality is set in roughly Regency England, and has a definite historical feel. Amelia and her mentally/emotionally handicapped brother, William, live mostly on their own after their parents decided they’d rather not have anything to do with William. Unfortunately, women are being brutally murdered near their home, and William appears to be at the center of the investigation due to his childlike ways and misunderstood manner. This is where our hero, Sebastian St.Ives, comes in as Amelia’s protector. He was sent from the veil by Nefri to protect Amelia and her piece of the Medallion.

Before getting further in my review, I feel it necessary to note that it wasn’t until after I started reading My Lord Immortality, that I discovered 1) the book is a reissue, 2) it is the third story in a trilogy and 3) this trilogy is the precursor to a much larger, fuller series by Ms. Ivy. Knowing this, and having read this story, I would not recommend anyone pick up this book on its own merits. Although I had no trouble following along, and the plot could be read as a stand alone, I never felt any real attachment to the characters or the overall story. I feel that I would have probably enjoyed this more if I’d started the series with the first book.

The mythology created by Ms. Ivy is interesting. I like the idea that vampires have denied themselves pleasure for so long - it creates almost virginal hero-types. Sebastian is a gentleman, but also has cravings and needs once he meets Amelia. He is conflicted over his duties and his desires. This makes for good romance character-building.

However, I felt that Amelia was portrayed overly naive and as a stereotypically faint-hearted female. Although I admire that she bucked society to care for William, she seemed to undo her own courageousness over and over. Here is a perfect example, directly from Amelia’s point-of-view, "But despite the frantic urge to help, she was bound by a paralyzing fear." And even as Sebastian and Amelia confess their feelings for each other, Amelia comes across too childlike.

In addition, the portrayal of William was too simplistic. He is eighteen, and although clearly mentally and/or emotionally handicapped, he is able to only speak in single and two word phrases. This alone seemed over-the-top. However, he also cannot follow directions, which of course leads to many problems.

Overall, I was not overly impressed with My Lord Immortality. It's not the author's ability to tell a compelling story, but rather that this story felt dated and simplistic. As the third book in a prequel trilogy, I feel it should not be read as an individual title.

Also, there are holes in the story. First, William was framed for murder, and the book never addresses how or even if his name is cleared. I felt this was a huge problem, and due to this, I dropped my rating from 3 to 2.5 stars. Second, I felt that the story neglected to adequately demonstrate the romance between Amelia and Sebastian. Although they profess their love to each other, I feel that the reader is more told than shown the pair falling in love. Finally, unless I missed it, we are never told how Amelia will live forever… the fact that she is human and he is a vampire isn't addressed to a satisfying manner.

With that all said, My Lord Immortality is easy to read, and the premise and mythology behind the tale is strong. As I stated earlier, I think I would have enjoyed this more if I'd started with the first book.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.

Quick & Dirty: The quest for the Medallion places Amelia and William Hadwell in harms way with only Sebastian St. Ives set to guard them with his life.

Opening Sentence: The cottage set in the thick copse of trees was a dark, cramped affair.

The Review:

Like many of you I often judge a book by its cover and often find that my fears or joys have been misplaced. To be completely honest, I didn’t hold out much hope for this book based on the cover. Admittedly this cover dates back from 2003 but contained all of the tropes that go along with the inclusion of vampires. You know the ones I mean like full moon, red cape, and heroine offering her neck up. However, the book is a pleasant novel to read while away on a lazy afternoon.

One of the most notable additions to this book is our heroine’s younger brother who is mentally challenged. Amelia’s care for William is a beautiful picture of her character and gives the reader significant insight into her character. She has given up Society and all of the parties in order to care for her brother and ensure that he stays with the family.

Sebastian St. Ives entrance into Amelia’s life occurs after she witnesses a murder and while the murderer is trying to convince her that he is harmless. Sebastian has spent his long life wanting to become a scholar but was chosen for this special assignment of guarding not only Amelia but the Medallion that has been bonded to her.

This is a charming book that I was loathe to see the last page turned. For all of you wondering whether you can jump into the 3rd book in the series and enjoy it, I did and I’m sure you shall as well. Also, Amelia and Sebastian’s story is told in a manner that I would not be afraid to recommend to a reader who enjoyed paranormal romances with hardly any cursing and no sex. So if you are looking for a clean paranormal romance then this book comes with high recommendations from me.

Notable Scene:

“Halt.” The new form held up an arm and Amelia could see the glint of a sharp blade in the silver moonlight. “I will not allow this.”

A dark, grating laugh echoed through the silence. “You? You will not allow?”

Amelia’s rescuer never wavered. “No.”

“Do not be more of a fool than you need to be. Return to your books and pathetic studies. You do not possess the courage nor the will to confront me.”

“Shall we see? Shall we test the strength of my dagger? I do not fear you.”

Lost in a thick fog of terror, Amelia nevertheless managed to notice that the gentleman now standing between her and the shadow was surprisingly large. Not only tall, but broad through the shoulders and possessing the type of chiseled muscles not often seen in society.

FTC Advisory: Zebra/Kensington provided me with a copy of My Lord Immortality. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Some books I love, some not so much. This one wasn't a winner for me, but I did enjoy it!

Keep in mind, teenager Briar would have ate this up! I was so into the strong man saves woman genre back then, especially if it had a supernatural twist with vampires. I don't binge it as much as I used to, but I do like trying.

I'm pretty sure this was a book I bought back in the 2010s and it got lost within the depths of my Mom's house. And once I moved out, slowly she's been finding the books that fell behind a desk, got lost in a closet, etc. One by one I WILL get to these books...

Anywho, I liked this book for a general read but it didn't wow me to make me want to binge the rest of the series. It was okay. There's other books by Alexandra Ivy (seen here as Debbie Raleigh... which is HER REAL NAME?! I didn't know that. I feel so betrayed...) that I love! So I'll stick to my fave series and let teenage Bri admire the cover.

And if you're asking why - There was something about the writing style and the conversations that just didn't grab me. This is also book 3 so I had NO idea what was going on, and you definitely need it for this book.

Two out of five stars.

The 3rd book in the series, previously released in December of 2003, continues the fight of Drake Ramone, a vampire with a black heart who is trying to destroy the veil between the Vampire and human worlds. Nefri, the greatest of all vampires, erected the veil some 200 years earlier because vampires began to succumb to bloodlust, preying on humans and often killing them. With the help of a Medallion, Nephri found a way to separate the two worlds and keep the peace. The vampire community became philosophers and students, except for a few. They wanted to go back to the old ways, were determined to find the Medallion, rent the veil and rule over the mortals and vampires alike. The only one left of the original three who fought for this was Drake and an unseen orchestrator. The other two were killed trying to seize parts of the Medallion that was split in 3 parts and given by Nephri to 3 mortal women for safekeeping. She sent a vampire as guardian to each woman who had a piece of the Medallion. The mortal Drake was currently seeking, was Amelia Hadwell.

Amelia left her Mayfair home where she lived with her parents. She left when they decided to have her grown brother placed in Bedlam. Now she and her “slow” brother William were on their own! She loved taking care of him, but simple things like keeping him in the house at night, instead of out searching for cats, was proving a monumental task. Lately there had been quite a few ladies of the evening murdered and it would be easy for someone to place the blame on a person who couldn’t defend himself. Her job was to protect him. William was continuously getting himself and Amelia into sticky situations in his quest to find cats, but lately they were always saved by the staid Sebastian St. Ives, a seemingly self-appointed guardian of Amelia.

It was a nice end to the Immortal Rogues trilogy. The romance of the characters seemed a bit rushed, somehow, but I liked them both. It was nice to see the other couples at the end of the book, too. I wish there had been a bit more of a happily ever after prologue at the end.

This book was surprisingly tedious and was also really similar to the second novel in the series (which was also too slow when it comes to pacing).

Unless you are a hard-core fan of historical romantic fiction with an empty reading shelf, giving this one is a miss is the smart option.

I didn't realize this was a re-issue of a previous released book until - well, just right now.

I actually thought it came from later in this series and thought that it was remarkably light on lost back story! And, even though it is only the third in this series I still thought it was pretty easy to figure out the created-world and the rules, except at the very beginning of the book where it speaks of other people trying to accomplish what Drake Ramone, the minion of the really bad guy is trying to do.

I liked that the heroine had black hair, which is a bit atypical for the genre, and that she was so willing to leave the boundaries of society. But, she is a bit of an idiot, going out each night defenseless when there is a ruthless, Jack the Ripper type trolling the streets. Also, taking care of her severely mentally challenged brother (he keeps getting out and is a suspect in the murder) is far beyond her abilities. He is unable to communicate outside of bad, good, cats, man, tired and hungry. While it is a lovely notion that she would save him from institutionalization, it is a foolish proposition that she would do so on a small allowance and mostly on her own.

I liked the male love interest, St. Ives much more.
The villain, Drake, is menacing, I suppose; I was mostly reminded of Simon Legree trying to terrorize the rent from the damsel.

But, I had a hard time getting into the book, there were lots of moments where she shouldn't go outside at night in her nightgown but she does and she has to be rescued. There are moments where they ponder their feeling wordlessly. The action all happens off stage, like Greek Theater. I found it boring and slow. The climax is anti-climactic. It is, a shallow, vaguely steamy romance with a side of vampirism. The word "maiden" was used a lot, a whole lot. Maybe it is dated.

It didn't do much for me. But, that doesn't mean you wouldn't enjoy it. Especially in the series context and if you like your romance without sex and fairly non-violent.

My Lord Immortality wraps up the Immortal Rogues trilogy very well.

In the final chapter of this trilogy we meet Amelia and Sebastian. Amelia is an amazing woman that has decided to take a different road than the expected. Rather than marry well and live the society life, she decides to take care of her mentally challenged brother. She leaves the life she knows and builds a stable home for him in the more affordable, seeder part of London. William keeps Amelia constantly busy, but she enjoys and loves him dearly. Her main concern is keeping him safe, but one night when she is trying to locate him after one of his late night jaunts her life changes forever.

Sebastian is not really sure if he is up for the job of guardian. He is a scholar first and is unsure how he can protect his charge. His feelings change the moment he first protects her. There is a pull within him. She draws him out of his norm and brings him back to life. He hasn’t felt this way in centuries and he’s not too sure if he likes it. He must do his duty to his people, but his heart is telling him Amelia means much more to him.

Sebastian must protect Amelia against the traitor Drake. Unknown to Sebastian there are other forces working against him. This is evil’s last chance at the amulets and they are starting to get desperate. The time has come for the final showdown.

I would like to say that the story is different from the others but it really isn’t. While every story was slightly different, they were just too similar to me; same template, different names. But considering that the trilogy evolved around three maidens, three guardians and their chore of protecting the amulets; potential plots are very limited. Ms. Ivy did pick some wonderfully strong women though. Each and every one of them have qualities that are not normal for their times and for me, they made the stories.

The vampire universe that Immortal Rogues entails is very sedate. These are not sexually charged men. Their lusts have been dormant for too long. In My Lord Immortality there is no sex and very little sexual tension with only a few kissing scenes. I would not feel bad letting a teenager or my grandma read this book. With that being the case, the cover is very misleading. It screams – sexy road ahead and it did not deliver. My Lord Immortality is one of the least sexual stories that I have read in a long time. I have read YA’s with more romance. Doesn’t mean that it is a bad thing either, but I think it would have enhanced the story. The plot was very one dimensional and it needed some special nuances to make it shine.

My Lord Immortality is an average read for me. I would only recommend it to people who like their romance light and the plot even lighter. I will say though that it is nice to have the whole storyline complete. Ms. Ivy wrapped it up quickly but nicely. There are no loose ends and I can’t see this world being revisited. It is a complete package.

NOTE: These novels are being rereleased under their original titles. They were originally published in early 2000’s.

Read other book reviews at Book Junkie Joint.

My Lord Immortality offers a different horde of vampires, and this alone made it worth reading. Following the footsteps of Nora Roberts in creating her own norms for vampires in her books, Alexandra Ivy presents scholarly vampire Sebastian St. Ives, who walks during the day and has completely gotten rid of his taste for human blood.

The story is well-written and the characters are well-drawn out throughout the story. Plot-wise, of course, it featured the usual battle between good and evil, good vampires versus bad vampires, and all that battle for dominance; nothing really fancy, but engaging nonetheless.

However, what set apart Alexandra Ivy’s vampires from the usual slew of paranormal romance books about vampires was that in this story, vampires were alienated from humans through a veil which hid their existence. And by being through the veil, they were rid of their hunger for human blood, and thus, were offered a life to pursue knowledge, research and truth about so many things in the world. Also, by being rid of their hunger for human blood, they gained the ability to walk during the day without being toast.

Another thing distinct about this book is that it is actually a historical, paranormal romance. It is set in London at a time where ladies were expected to behave in a certain way and were paraded in balls in order for them to find suitable men for marriage. Think Jane Austen, and that’s about the same period depicted in this story. This is actually the first time I’ve read a book of this genre, and I sure am glad I’ve stumbled upon it.

Character-wise, I love Amelia and how she defied the societal norms in order to care for her brother. While she could be a Mary Sue at times, I still admire her for her bravery and stubborn streak. Also, I really liked Amelia’s younger brother William and his fascination for cats. William became Amelia’s ‘weakness’ because she cared too much for him, but I don’t think it’s any weakness at all. Any woman who could hold her ground despite societal pressures is an amazing woman to me.

Then, there’s also Sebastian St. Ives. I would have to confess that I love geeks regardless of whichever time period they come from, and Sebastian St. Ives is one hell of a geeky vampire. I’ve read so many books about vampires of ethereal beauty and charm, but this is the first time I’ve read about a geeky vampire who preferred the company of books than seducing women. Well, that and his silver orbs for eyes.

All in all, if you’re looking for a quick read romance story that is wholesome and engaging, I think Alexandra Ivy’s My Lord Immortality is just the perfect choice.

Although I had no trouble following along, and the plot could be read as a stand alone, I never felt any real attachment to the characters or the overall story.

A very enjoyable read. Well-written, smooth-flowing with well-fleshed characters and an interesting plot. I loved the idea of vampires retreating behind the Veil and then the Veil being in jeopardy. Sebastian was too arrogant for my liking, but I love seeing an arrogant man being brought down later by the heroine. I really liked Amelia. She was intelligent, not easily fooled and a survivor. This does feel more like a historical romance and does not compare to her paranormal romance series Guardians of Eternity. Seems to have been written before sex was part of the romance scene. So for me this was not a must read.

This story starts off very well. A single woman, caring for her intellectually challenged brother, during the Jack Ripper Murder’s. It is a great premise. Not to mention the fact that unbeknownst to her she is caring a medallion of great value to the vampire race. The intro is great, and seems like there will be unending action and a great mystery. But for some reason the story just stops and is stagnant. I did not expect there to be sex because it takes place in Victorian England, and she is a upper class woman who carries herself in high regard. So the sexual tension with no payoff was fine. However there was so many opportunities for action, like when Drake and Sebastian first meet on the street, that were not taken advantage of. Instead of meeting confrontation head on the character’s just seem walk away, and then talk about each other.

Eventually the story does pick up, but not much. Drake and the Shadow Man are more annoying the ominous, and Jack the Ripper became an after though instead of an opportunity. I have not read the two previous books in the Immortal Rogues series, and I will not be. This is a stand alone novel, and you will not feel lost. I simply did not like it. This series is the prequel (originally written under the pen name Debbie Raleigh) to her very popular Guardians of Eternity series. I would skip the Rogues and go straight to the Guardians.

I just finished this series. I thought it best to read them all together so that I could give a better review. While I love Ms. Ivy's series, Guardians of Eternity, I wasn't too fond of this one. It is kind of a prequel to the GoE series since it features Nefri and the medallions that are important to keeping the Veil safe. I guess my review is really of all three of the books since really there wasn't much difference between them. The first two even had the villains using the same ploy to introduce them to a woman, the villain's helpers "attacking" a) the main character and b) the maid of the main character. And don't even get me started on the number of times the word "maiden" was used, ugh! At one point the word was used in reference to prostitutes. I must admit that this was the best book of the three, but it was still just an okay book. Another thing that was odd was there was no sex in any of the books just kissing and in one book just a reference to it (they were laying in bed after the act). While not every book needs sex I just kind of think that with vampires I automatically think sex. It also might have made the books a little more interesting. I guess I would recommend this series if you are a fan of Ms. Ivy's or would like a fast and light read.

Amelia Hadwell has no time for London's nightlife. Not when her beloved brother's odd ways have their family threatening to institutionalize him. And not when she is questioning her own sanity after being confronted by a murderous shadow creature--then being saved by a captivating stranger, a man who belongs to a world she cannot imagine.

Reserved and scholarly, Sebastian St. Ives has been content without human desires--until they are reawakened by the delicate, brave Amelia, whom he is meant to protect. For the young woman has no idea she possesses the key to a ravenous vampire's dark victory. Now Sebastian must shield her from both a killer and his own growing attraction--or bond with her completely, and forever. . .

I received a e-copy of this book from netgalley for my honest review. This book for me was just ok. I have read other books by Alexadra Ivy and enjoyed them. By no means was this a bad book it just lacked the action that I expected at points. It would seem like it was building up and then would fall kind of flat. I would however say it was a good story.

My Lord Immortality is one of those books that started really well but kind of lost momentum as it went along. I didn’t mind the storyline and I liked the characters especially Sebastian. The romance was nice and the chemistry between Amelia and Sebastian was great.

There were quite a few inconsistencies which really dragged me out of the story especially towards the end. Also Amelia and Sebastian’s super natural senses seemed to fail them a little too often.

I expected, based on the new cover, for there to be some more ‘intimate’ scenes but this book was actually very clean, which I didn’t mind but some might.

My Lord Immortality was enjoyable enough but is not a book that will stay with me or make my favourite shelf.

The publisher provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for and honest review

I didn't know this was a reprint and maybe this is the reason why this book seemed to me so "aged"; I thought at the beginning that it was because the heroine is stupid enough that she has to be saved more than once, but maybe it is because there is not sex and neither enough vampirism, compared to the actual standards in books...

THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND KENSINGTON PUBLISHING CORP. FOR THE PREVIEW

Meh
I was a little disappointed with this book. The storyline was great. I liked the idea. Vampires trying to come back to the human world to rule over them. A medallion that can break the barriers from the vampire world to the human world. Split into 3 pieces given to 3 human women with a guardian (good vampires) to watch over them. The book however fell flat with the characters. Sebastian was not leading man material. He was definitely not who I would want to be watching over me and protecting me. With Amelia I think the author was going for calm and in control but didn't happen. Amelia came a crossed boring, plain and unemotional to me. Now Drake when I read the prologue I thought he was going to be the love interest in this book. Nope didn't happen though I was still rooting for him to win and take over the world. Great idea not so great delivery

Not my cup of tea.. It's set in London in olden days. I'm not sure if the author mentioned which century or if I just didn't pay attention. I don't like these kinds of books. The problem with setting it in the past is that it's extremely limiting. "Ladies" were not allowed to be around gentlemen unaccompanied, it wasn't "proper." So the flirtations were extremely subtle in my mind, while scandalous in the character's mind. One kiss and the girl was ready to be "bond for eternity" to this vampire which just feels ridiculous to me (as a modern woman) especially since the girl was 23 and had NEVER been kissed. The whole thing just felt flat to me. I found myself sympathizing more for the villain because at least he had some chutzpah. The male lead was a wuss...
