Cody Jackson has two wives and he's just met his third. The first he married for duty, the second was for lust. The third will be all the above plus a love so consuming it takes him by storm. Alana Harte is a force to be reckoned with, she was raised in the faith, but not in the town. No long skirts and head wraps for her, she's all about designer jeans and high heels. Sharon tries to hold him with her beauty, Arlene thinks she's number one. But Alana will own him before all's said and done. Because she knows something her sheltered sisters don't. A good pussy can topple nations. Just ask Cleopatra.
We have here a made up country, a Kingdom. Our dashing Hero Cody is the heir to the throne. The Kingdom has this unconventional culture: Every man marries three wives.
Cody's first wife Arlene was a dutiful wife, a mother hen type. Two years later he'd married beautiful Sharon. She aroused feelings of lust in him but it only lasted a few months, till her shallowness started to abhor him. Even though he had two wives, he felt lonely. Loneliness of the heart and spirit.
A few years later, he married the third wife, 18 year old Alana, our heroine. She had been pledged to him since her birth and was raised elsewhere. She was very beautiful and spirited, she had guts.
Cody's feelings for Alana were different than his feelings for his two other wives. This wasn't just lust but something more, something very powerful. Alana he'd found out, was the love of his heart.
He was always trying to be fair to all his wives when it came to visiting their beds, spend quality time, or present giving. He never wanted to make them feel that he preferred one to the other but that's exactly what he did as Alana was special to him and the other wives felt neglected, insecure and threatened, and that caused tensions to rise, and there was a lot of jealousy, resentment, hostility, arguments, fights, a toxic environment all around in the communal household.
What put me off from the start is the foul words in the heroine's inner thoughts. I know that many do not mind this, but l do. I want my heroines to be ladylike. She got better later on and I started to find her inner thoughts quite comical.
The author successfully depicted the negative effects and conflicts that can arise from a polygamous situation.
From the first page: Sharon, now Sharon filled me with lust, for about three months. Until her vapid shallowness turned me to stone. I conjugate for duty's sake.
I’m torn. This isn’t my favorite genre (sister wives situation), I prefer when they’re all involved in the action and not just one individual is being shared separately with the others. It just always feels unbalanced, which was the problem here. But, I was curious how JS would handle it because she usually doesn’t do serious.
JS usually has two types of h’s. The wimpy, meek, sheltered gal partnered with the OTT uber protective alpha male that is typically sporting 10-12inches of cockmeat. OR The brash, crude, tough chick that dresses slutty and is typically partnered with a more manageable male. Here we get option 2 with Alana.
Alana arrives on the scene into a hostile environment as the third wife of Cody some dude (he's a ruler or a businessman of a made-up country). Wife #1 is a meek homemaker type that follows Sharon. (Arlene), Wife #2 is a nasty, unhappy, manipulative harpy (Sharon). She struggles because she was raised in America in a conventional family. Alana is a lot to take, so beware if you like a gentler h. I thought for this situation she worked better because her other h type would’ve been eaten alive by wife #2.
The rest is the drama of her finding her way and dealing with the other wives.
Bottom Line- I thought it was ok. I think what really bothered me was that at least 2 of the 3 wives didn’t want to be sister wives, so I hated that they were stuck in the situation. It didn’t end the way I was hoping for, but there’s an epilogue several years out that helped. Safety-
==>UPDATED: reread 2017 - The story is well written and catches the attention of the reader. I did not like the story when I read the first time and I think it was interesting in the second reading. It's weird the three wives share a husband and living together. Our heroine has pregnancies of quadruplets and twins and then is most envied even by the other wives. And the hero is really in love with her. It is a culture that I would never accept. I'm a possessive bitch. But it worked in the story and everyone got a happy ending together in a large commune. Yuck! -------------------- ==>Read 2014: Que historinha mais podre!!!! O cara já tem 2 esposas e com a chegada da terceira provoca uma ciumeira e muita confusão entre as esposas. Eu li até o final pq eu me odeio!!!! ------ That horrible story!!!! The man already has 2 wives and the arrival of the third causes jealousy and much confusion between the wives. I read until the end because I hate myself!!!!
If it wasn't for Alana (h), I would have enjoyed it better and given it 4 Stars. I didn't like her. She was crude and annoying. She called her vagina, Kitty. So cringe. Cody, on the other hand, I really liked. He was completely in love with Alana. She was 100% his favorite, his true love. I enjoyed reading how he pampered and protected her. He adored her. There was a good deal of OW drama but it wasn't angsty because Cody preferred Alana from the very start. It was insta-love. In fact, he loved her before he even saw her. The marriage had been arranged (from afar) since she was born and he was 8 yrs old. He received reports about her throughout the years.
The story is told from 2 points of view: Cody and Alana. But the epilogue includes the PoV of all 4 of them: Cody, Alana, Sharon, and Arlene. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the epilogue. The book was fairly short, not bad. I'm just happy I was able to finish a book. I've been in a reading slump for over a month, feels like ages.
I wouldn't file this under smut or erotica. The sexy times were satisfying but not OTT, in my personal opinion.
Awful. If someone want to read a good polyamory book could try Maya banks. The first thing about these books is that both parties have to accept this unusual situation as if it’s natural and usual, and it happens with people born in communities where it’s practiced, or all the parties have to view this thing as comfortable and normal. It’s not my thing so I was anyway quite wary but here we have something else. Here we have abuse. The hero has been raised in a community where polygamy is the norm, yet his wives get jealous of the new one. The heroine has been raised outside the community or cult, because to me it is such. And she finds it extremely painful and difficult to accept that her husband sleeps with other women that are his wives. She has been not coerced but manipulated because she’s 18, her parents belongs to this community and this is their customs so imo she didn’t have the chance to make an informed and mature decision, imo this is abuse of a person who’s barely legal, some months younger I would have said it was abuse of a minor. The hero is filthy. He wants her even knowing she’s been raised differently and his regards for her is shallow because he enjoys having more wives, so his affirmation that he loves her more makes me laugh, he doesn’t look capable of living anyone beside himself and his own comfort. The fact that either wives feel uncomfortable and one of them has to go to therapy makes me laugh, so it’s not something that was ok for them, it’s apparently forced, sexist and abusive. This thing was ridiculous and the heroine who should have been a very determined and strong young woman is a victim of an abusive household. And in the end she admits she still hurts when he’s with his other wives but she accepts it. Just read Maya banks for polygamy books where everyone is very ok with the idea. This is only a very sexist, abusive and wrong pov where women must accept a very uncomfortable situation to stay with a man. Just grow up and leave the cult if you don’t like it.
A different story but, certainly, not for me. I can't come to terms with polygamy, it's beyond me. The hero's angst left me cold and his troubles with his chosen wives seemed like something well-deserved. Were we supposed to feel for a greedy man who couldn't handle his harem??? Sorry, that's impossible. All I can say is, s@##w him! I didn't even feel sorry for bride #3. She married him, aware of the previous wives, and demanded their acceptance? Who cares what she wanted? Unless I got it wrong, she only agreed to the marriage because her parents threatened to cut off her wealthy lifestyle. All in all, an irritating story. It's a good thing I read it for free, I'd never pay for it.
Second read. First read was most probably a zone out read, as I recalled very little of book. Not wowed by this Lisa Jewell book. Just didn’t really do anything, and had some very annoying characters!
I really hated Cody and the way he treated his other wife's. He didn't even try and then when the first two wife's reacted badly he acted surprised some of the things he said to them were unforgivable, but honestly I don't think he cares, he loves his new wife to much to care if he makes his older wifes cry. If other wives didn't like it to bad he would just toss them aside, what a piece of crap.
This story is a delightful turmoil fantasy. ☺There fights, verbalize fights, eyes 👀 rolling fights. With three women to one man. Scorching exciting romance novel.
I've always wondered how a guy with more than 1 wife did it, the whole how life worked, the time management, just how all the relationships between them all worked. This story is pretty much about Alana being the 3rd wife and never growing up in that community. She is his fave which I thought was sad for the other 2 but I spose that wld happen if u had more then 1 partner, u wld always have a favourite. There were a few dramas with the 2nd wife Sharon and Alana but that was cos the gud old hubby did t pay her much attention. But in saying that there was really much drama or interactions between the 2, like the interactions were mentioned but u didn't get to read it, I like reading bout drama so it wld have been good to have read more of it I did like Alanas character though I thought she was pretty Awesome, she has the don't give a fuck attitude which is always entertaining But overall I didn't like it and I honestly dnt no how someone cld be in a relationship like this. If it was me I wld have more then likely taken my kid and left him. It kind of pissed me off that he kept telling Sharon that he wld kick her out but she couldn't take her daughter, like what the hell man. I wld have just taken her and then told him later 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 but then again I wld never have been 1 of his wives anyways haha
Just wondering are there guys out there who aren't rich have more then 1 wife? How does that wrk? Does he make the wives work or?? Wldnt mind reading that story hahahaha 😂😂😂
I am not usually a fan of this trope. I do not like to share, and I definitely do not share well with other women. Give me multiple men and one woman any day. That said, I kept seeing good reviews for this book, so I decided to give it a chance.
It ended up being more entertaining than I expected. There is some mild drama between the wives, which I actually enjoyed, and by the end of the story, two of the three women seem comfortable with the arrangement. This is very much a cultural setup, so everyone involved knows the expectations going in, which helps it feel more intentional rather than messy.
The story opens with the wedding of the third and youngest wife, which immediately sets the tone. If you know you do not enjoy this trope, this may not be the book for you. However, if you are working your way through Jordan Silver’s catalog, it is worth the read. It is not a very long book and was an interesting change of pace.
Ok so I have been thinking on how to review this series for awhile because of the dynamics of the book. The characters were really good. I didn't feel any slight towards any of the characters. What I mean is I didn't have the guy for having those wives I just took it as that's there life. I was very mad at the guy because I didn't see him communicating with everyone involved he just kind of took control and expected things to go well. I liked the ending how the wives got together because it should have been that way from the beginning. This was a good book the misspelling and other errors annoyed me but overall it was good.
I’ve put reading this book for about 2 years because of what I thought it was. I shouldn’t have doubted Jordan. This is the story of Alana transitioning into life as the third wife. Something she was groomed for since birth. It wasn’t easy for any of the women, but they had one thing in common, the love from and for their husband. Definitely a eye opener into a different way of life, as is most of her books. Great job. Sexiness, love, jealousy, tradition, lots of baby making, and self evaluation all come into play.
I really liked that the heroine is vocal in this story, and she and the hero interact. I thought she sounded weirdly gangsta in the beginning, but that lessened, thankfully. The story is interesting, and gives me a look into a polygamous relationship. At no time was I convinced that this was a good thing, or that it was fair. I pretty much wanted to smack Cody for being a selfish so and so every other page. Oh, well. It was still a captivating story.
I'm a fan of Jordan Silver but this was a hard NO for me. Not the concept but the characters was so unlikable. This girl had freedom, this life wasn't forced on her but chose such a toxic lifestyle and brings kids into it. Just....no. The only reason is because he was hot and she liked the sex. He was a weak human being and disgusted me. This one needs to get outta my head. Like now.
Alana was just as bad as the rest of them. More so than some. I hated her. Cody was a pissant that didn't deserve one wife let alone three. He had zero idea how to handle that. The baby situation was unrealistic and it made no sense why most of them were even in that lifestyle. I like a good poly book sometimes, if it's well done. I read The Wives by Jordan Silver and really enjoyed that one. This one... just no. But that's only my opinion. To each their own.
If I’m honest I wasn’t sure if this book would appeal to me but I gave it an opportunity. I was pleasantly surprised to have liked the book. The lifestyle is not one I would engage but it was tastefully presented for anyone that could get beyond the sister wives. It didn’t shy away from the struggles of that lifestyle. The book gave credit for the work of working through family dynamics. Well done author!
I was kinda confused ..reading this felt like there should be just 1 wife & husband..but as I kept reading.I got so addictive to the story. &i understood ..Love ..even if it's weird lol
Amazing read, different but what can you say when it comes to author Jordan Silver? She does things differently from other authors, she's her own person and I love it. I was very surprised on how it ended but it seems very fitting, amazingly done.
