This teen thriller revolves around a ham radio operator (Kim) and a friend she makes while on the air one night. Kim’s new friend is hiking in a remote area, and they set a time when they will meet on the air again. Marc misses their date and, after several days she becomes worried.

In the meantime, we see things from Marc’s point of view. While hiking, he breaks his leg while a winter storm is moving in. His radio equipment is damaged, the remote wilderness has spotty radio coverage, and he fights to survive the elements while trying to jerry-rig his radio so he can call for help.

It’s pretty harrowing and suspenseful. The writing is a bit hokey, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless.

The story is written to promote ham radio and encourage interest. Having said that, I did find it to be an engaging read with lots of suspense that made it hard to put the book down. Even though it is intended for younger readers, I really did enjoy the story and gave it four stars.
