EXCERPT: Nine whole days of FREEDOM.
Beau kept repeating five beautiful words to herself - nine whole days of freedom - when she awoke to the smell of bacon and coffee floating up the stairs and into her bedroom. Tomorrow morning it would be the aroma of cinnamon that wafted up to her bedroom. Lots of things changed with time, but not her mother's special Thanksgiving and Christmas Day breakfast sweet rolls.
People changed. She thought of her youngest sister, Endora, and her messy breakup a couple of years before. She had always been such an outgoing person, and after she found out her fiancé and her best friend were sleeping together, she went into a deep depression. Now she was engaged to the local preacher and had turned her life right back around.
Dreams change. That brought on a sigh when Beau remembered the dream she had chased for ten years, and finally gave up a few months ago. She had gone to Nashville right out of high school and thought she would be the next big country star. She found out really quickly that she wasn't the only young girl in Tennessee who wanted to sing for a living. A decade later, she finally gave up and came back to Spanish Fort and now helped her great-aunt out with her advice blog and speed-dating events business.
'What are you thinking about?' Her twin sister, Rae, peeked into her bedroom. She was wearing an oversized t-shirt from the police department, from where she'd worked in Boise City, Oklahoma, for several years.
Beau sat up and inhaled deeply. 'I was thinking about how things change. We can always depend on Mamma's cinnamon rolls on Thanksgiving Day. That never changes.'
Rae sat down on the edge of the bed. 'What has changed?'
'All seven of us sisters,' Beau answered.
ABOUT 'COMING HOME TO PARADISE': All seven sisters are finally home for Christmas, but can the last two find love like the others?
As Endora Simmons plans her Christmas wedding, she's delighted to have her last two sisters, Rae and Beau, finally back in Spanish Fort, Texas. Endora figures if she keeps them busy, they won't have time to think about leaving again. So, Endora talks Rae into teaching Sunday school; as a former police officer, surely Rae can corral the rowdy kids—the most high-spirited being Sheriff Gunner's twin daughters—into making Christmas decorations for the upcoming pageant. Bo helps out by taking over the community Christmas program. She's also been working with Aunt Bernie on her new venture, a monthly speed-dating night at a bar just over the river in Oklahoma—and boy, does she have her eye on that handsome bartender. With all the Christmas preparations in high gear, will Rae and Beau still find time to fall in love?
MY THOUGHTS: First off, I haven't read either of the two previous books in the series, but that didn't negatively impact on my enjoyment at all. There is enough information given so that you know where everyone is at, but not so much that it is overwhelming.
Coming Home to Paradise is a charming small-town story that makes it clear that what we want in life isn't always what we need, and that when one door closes on our dream, another opens. We just need to be brave enough to recognize it for what it is and walk through it.
The spirit of Christmas clearly shines through in Coming Home to Paradise. There is a Christmas pageant, a Christmas parade and carol singing amongst other festivities. I would just love to see the Paradise homestead all decorated up, inside and out. It would be a sight to behold. I would love to be part of their family gatherings. For the Simmons's, family is everything.
This was a fun read. I loved the banter between the sisters, and the way they would run interference for one another when great-aunt Bernie got on the warpath, trying to dictate to the girls who they should be seeing and who they shouldn't get involved with. I admit to wondering occasionally if she was using reverse psychology on them!
Of course, you know when you pick up a Carolyn Brown book that you are inevitably going to get a happy-ever-after ending. The journey to get there was fun.

MEET THE AUTHOR: I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue, then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.

I combined reading and listening to Coming Home to Paradise by Carolyn Brown. Frances Anderson narrates the audiobook and, although I prefer Tanya Eby's narration, I'd still be pushed to pick between the audio and the print.
