And so, to the final of the current batch of Paper Tiger titles with this one being all about Unicorns - as with the Dragon book it presents itself as the definitive book (though not a guide I guess other later books by other publishers claim that) collecting all that is known together in one book - something I would question.

However, what you do get is a sumptuously illustrated book with numerous legends and tales where Unicorn's feature - some of them famously retold others new to me. Really this is a book of Unicorn related illustrations - which I will agree are very good in various styles (some of which have a definite antique style to them) - all linked together with a common narrative.

So if you like the subject or you like romanticised myths and legends this book is a great start - for me it's another in my growing Paper Tiger collection and I am very pleased with it

Very informative treatise on the unicorn. As a firm believer in its existence (because I want to, and I can, so there! ) I thoroughly enjoyed this. The illustrations alone would earn it a four star rating.

Repetitive and boring. The illustrations made it more palatable.

This book tries to explain the origins of the Unicorn myth but never really accomplishes its goal. It wants us to believe in these creatures while at the same time kind of proving they didn't exist? Confusing.

I've always loved Unicorns ever since I was a little girl, so perhaps I was expecting a lot more than the book gave me. I expected explanations, a deeper look into different myths... not the same information over and over.

It is the best book I have ever read it has every single history-legend about the unicorn and makes you believe unicorns are the most powerful mythical creatures in the hole universe. I have learned a lot of things about that book and hope Nigel right another book about unicorns because I am quite sure that the second one will be better.

what I like most about this book is that it's not 'cute'. Most people think when you say 'Unicorn' is a cute little white horses that really don't do anything. this book reminds us of the fact that these are formidable intelligent, strong beasts that are capable of slaying dragons!
