My superhero-obsessed three year old really enjoyed Supertato, so I jumped at the chance to get my hands on this sequel in which the evil pea gets his revenge! It's very cleverly done, with a lovely twist at the end and plenty of laughs for adults and children. It was immediately requested for a repeat reading, so I sense the evil pea is going to be a regular bedtime visitor in the Harrison house. Pea-lightful!

?Uit een minibiebje lang geleden meegenomen.
🤔Leuk prentenboek in het Engels, maar niet zo mijn ding omdat ik meestal liever in het Nederlands voorlees hoewel kinderen het vaak leuk/stoer vinden om ook wat Engels te horen. Ook deze gaat deze week weer retour naar een minibieb.

Quite funny.

Evil pea was fun, and I enjoyed Lance's silly voices! There was lots of fun details about all the veg in the shops, and evil pea was very silly. I would recommend this to little ones who don't like their vegetables, and then hopefully they will be able to see the fun side to boring frozen veg, as well as the excitement of the shops when everyone leaves for the night. Leaves!

A brilliant book to use with reception and KS1. A lot to discuss and the book can really come to life for the children. Would definitely recommend.

"It was night time in the supermarket and all the good little veggies were settling down to sleep."
This is the first of the Supertato series that I have seen, and it is an excellent and original advocate for the series. Bringing together a clever subversion of the hugely popular Marvel/DC superhero genre at the moment with an attempt to promote healthy eating that is so sly it might just work, this book is an excellent example of a story that can be enjoyed by both young children and adults on different levels. Which should make story time twice the fun!
As my amazing husband Adam knowns, I am not the greatest fan of garden peas, so when I saw the cover proclaiming an anthropomorphic frozen pea as the villain, I just had to indulge my instinct that "some vegetables are frozen for a very good reason". And the silly premise does not disappoint. A supermarket Gotham city full of veggie civilians is under terror from the maniacal pea who keeps escaping his freezer unit to wreak havoc. This time his plan is to neutralise Supertato by freezing him solid, and then turning down the heat on the rest of the supermarket. "'FREEZE, EH? I'll give him FREEZE! I'll give them all FREEZE!'" Silliness escalates as Evil Pea gets his way only to find the other vegatables are quite enjoying their new winter wonderland. "'NO! NO! NO! It's not supposed to be FUN!'" And the hot chillies melt Supertato to affectionately put him in his place in the end. The stakes are just high enough for a very light humorous bedtime story.
I really enjoyed the illustrations, with Evil Pea and Supertato wearing classic black face masks to mark out their vegetable super-powers (superfoods?). All the panels were crisp and brightly coloured, with a surprising range of expressions given to the vegetables from childhood to old age, to shock to grumpiness. I did find at times that part of the plot, such as Supertato assembling his Santa costume, was only implicit in the pictures and not stated directly in the text, so that following the story might be more difficult for younger children and toddlers. However, I do appreciate that this is a technique replicated from the classic comic genre. Also, I wasn't entirely convinced that a leaky freezer unit could clog up a whole building with snow, until I remembered the voracious freezer from the office of the lab I used to work in. That thing was building its own glacier.

Very good book my favorite part was when supertato stuck pea on top of the tree and my least favorite part was when the pea had to go back in the freezer all though I thought it was an amazing book defo recommend

These Supertato books really are stupid but I still think that children might enjoy them. They aren't storybooks for grown ups that's for sure.

This was read to my friend's daughters. I thought it was clever how the pea gets revenge and the twist at the end was good too. An excellent story which entertains children and adults.

This is really humorous and clever, with terrific illustrations and funny dialogue. This sequel holds up to the quality of the original book.
