I have a plan.
Buy a car, keep my feelings locked down tight where they are safe, and stay a virgin.
Should be easy, right?
Except nothing in my life is easy.
Especially since a tall, dark-eyed, mysterious guy shows up, occupying way too much space in my head, and smelling just too delicious for my own good.
He makes me feel things I can’t afford to feel, and when he lets me in on his painful past, a bond I didn’t need or want is forged.
Against my better judgment, I let him in, and now a devastating secret threatens to tear us apart.
I had a plan.
Why didn’t I stick to it?
Will we survive what life is determined to throw at us?

I love a good coming of age new adult romance. This Is What It Feels Like by Rae Lloyd was such a strong debut novel and was one I didn't want to put down.

Shaen is a senior in high school but her life isn't like that of most of her peers. She's grown up different than her best friend Liam and their group of friends. Raised by a single mom, she's mostly taken care of herself. When Liam's cousin Remi moves to their school, she's intrigued by him. But they're just friends. Until it becomes more.

I loved watching both Shaen and Remi come out of their shells and open up to one another. I love reading about first loves. There is just something so special about it. Their romance was beautiful, but also fire.

There were a few twists at the end that I guessed early on, but it didn't hinder my enjoyment of the book. I read this book in two days which is fairly quick for me. I didn't want to stop reading once I started. Rae's writing was fantastic and I look forward to more books from her in the future!

Woow, woow, wooow!

I am speechless! I absolutely adored this book!
I literally lived every high and every low in Shaen's and Remi's journey. I was so absorbed by this book and the story, i couldn't focus on anything else!

I also would like to commend Rae for the beautiful writing! This book reads so well and honestly the level of writing, narration, dialogue, everything really is amazing! It all flows naturally and smooth. I think it's one of the best written ARCs i've read so far! I cannot believe this is only the debut novel and i can't wait to see what Rae will bring out next!

Now, about the story. This is an intense young love story, but not any kind of love, but the love we all dream of and wish for. So intense and so honest and strong! I think it was beautifully written and addressed in this book. The smut scenes, OMG!!!
It was so well presented and written, you need to take a few breaks... if you know what i mean hahaha

Shaen is an independent young lady with lots of determination and a plan for her future. In spite of her at home situation she manages to surround herself with people who care and love her deeply. While she struggles with various issues, mental health is very realistically addressed in the book, i feel like she works on it and eventually overcomes them, by finding strenght in herself and her love. I enjoyed seeing her growth throughout the entire book!

I really enjoyed discovering Remi, a shy guy coming from a very religious family, who finds out his entire life was a lie. In spite of all that and his struggles in his relationahip with his dad, he remains kind and is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. He's so caring and attentive, i think some men could take some notes from him haha. Throughout the book he grows into himself and you can see how his confidence increases!

I cannot recommend this book enough!
You have to read it!

I am humbled to say that I really liked this book! Surprisingly, it's Rae Lloyd's debut book.

There are things that I disliked and disapproved in the book but also a lot that I did enjoy.

Starting off with the "Nays", it is obvious that Lloyd strongly disapproves with religion to the extent of hate and shaming. I mean, it is a free world, and one is free to do and think what they want but as long as you don't force it unto others and shaming people who disapprove or merely don't share your beliefs. She makes it her number one purpose to shame it, slant it, attack it and give it the ultimate evil vibe. OK we get it, you don't need to repeat it over and over and also keep in mind you're an author who wants to reach as many people as you need to become successful, and many of these readers don't share your ideologies thus making them a one and done readers.

Second, the fact that the author even considered incest being ok made me question the messages she seeks to send through her books.

But that aside, I loved how self assured and determined the MFC was to not end up like her mother. Her perseverance and will to not succumb to peer pressure and set her off the course of her life's purpose. She's strong, confident but lonely. Remi is a dream, with his own set of demons and struggles. It was only logical for these broken souls to come together and help each other mend.
And then the fact that they're both virgins yet knowledgeable about what intimacy is and how to seek that with each other and to actually respect each other's wishes to wait and take their time was refreshing.
The steamy scenes in this book are the most romantic and beautiful that I've ever read. You can feel that being together is a gift for them and not just something to get it done because we're supposed to. It has connection and feelings and exploration and it just warms your heart.

It reminded me a bit of Boys of Tommen however this book is much less dramatic and angsty yet it presses all the right buttons.

I do understand at the end that being poor and having no resources to get into college makes it hard for Shaen to aspire for more. But the fact that owning a dog shelter is her only purpose and life goal is a little bit disappointing.

Finally, I absolutely loved the fact that her best friend is a boy she's known since they were 6 years old and he was actually a heterosexual who viewed her as a sister. The way he supported her and looked out for her made their relationship so much more beautiful. The trust these two had was a life goal in itself.
Solid friendship between men and women though rare but it does exist. It's not always sexual or having hidden motives. And it can't only be between a gay boy and a girl like every other book out there.

All in all, I have conflicting feelings about this book but as I admire some of the few points this author has tackled I gave it a .5 star boost. Thus rounding it to a 3.5 rating.

When I find a good book my mood is changing like crazy!! This book right here got me all the feelings!
It took me back to my high school years, it got me back some of those good memories that I realized that I kind of forgot how cherished they are. Then reading chapter after chapter I was back to my first love!!!
Shaen girl! I found myself in you! A strong character with a pretty awesome attitude. Not your regular female character that is always weak and a victim! No sir! She is beautiful, strong and knows what she wants from her life
Remi- well!! Dang! He started as such a timid boy,but by the end of the book he became one of my favorite male characters in a romance book!! Attentive- check! Respectful- check! Responsible-double check!! Hot and oh yeah hooot!!! The building of their relationship was at fast pace and that i enjoyed very much. If you like your books spicy, well this one I recommend. It starts timidly but transforms into a hot story that gives you butterflies and the need to have some gulps of cold water(if you know what i mean)

This is one of those books that you cannot put down because it’s entertaining, easy read and at the end gives you a tremendous satisfaction. It has a beautiful love story, shows you how important real friends are and that you can choose your close ones to become family no matter the differences.

I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait for the next one to come out! Big shout out to you Rae!!

This book is a lot of fun! It takes you down a road of devastation, hurt, love, and new experiences.
The characters seem so much older than 17/18 and just their age at the same time.

I think Rae Lloyd did a fantastic job of bringing us flawed characters that are lovable. (Remi- like can he just be real because swoon).

Definitely recommend this read if you aren’t weirded out by high school sexy scenes. (Everyone is of the age of consent- still a little awkward at times in my old lady era 😅).

From the lovable characters to the strong writing, the plot and the setting, everything about this book was wonderful. Wow, wow, so good!! I could not put down this book, it had all the things! An incredibly romantic love story, the ups and downs of first love, the burning questions of identity and of course, the steamy hot scenes to accompany it all. This is definitely a must read. I cant wait to see what Rae Lloyd publishes next.

I was given this book as an ARC to read.

The FMC has been raised by an absentee mother that had her young. Her father was a complete unknown to her. She learned to rely on herself and built walls to protect herself.

The MMC was raised by a verbally abusive machinist father and mother that allowed it.

His cousin is her best friend and he was quickly settled in their friend group. Until one night his inhibitions were lowered and he opened up more to her than she could imagine.

-Great book! The writing flows well and it was very enjoyable to read!

*Virg!n MC's
*Trauma bonding
*Secrets that could tear their world apart

*Protective MMC

A little while back Rae Lloyd popped on my For You page on TikTok and something about her just stuck to me. And when I learned she was writing her own book, I was excited to maybe be on her ARC team. And it happened! Now, onto the review 😉

This is one of those books that it’s going to stay with me for the rest of my life. Not only Shaen and Remi’s story is beautiful, with ups and downs that make you feel everything; but it’s also so beautifully written. Rae, you’ve done a FANTASTIC JOB!

Despite everything that Shaen has against her in her life, she’s a strong positive character that I found myself caring deeply for. She was a REAL character, one that makes you feel things and resonates with you. Struggles, mental health... I felt those things deeply. And something that usually pushes me back in a story is the virgin trope. I don’t like the virginal FMC who’s saving herself for the right one or for religious reasons - nothing against it, it’s just not for me - but Shaen wanted to stay a virgin for a very logical reason that I could totally understand and support. And the same goes for Remi. I feel like his story could’ve been so typical having a bad relationship with his father, who’s a not-so-saint Pastor, but Rae wrote him so beautifully real.

I feel like this book could’ve easily fallen into the typical teen love story, but this is more than this. This spoke to my soul in the most beautiful way. And yes, I know I say beautiful a lot, but it’s the word that comes to mind when describing this book and its characters.

And the spice? OMG THE SPICE! This has a lot more spice than you would imagine.

Thank you for creating this book, Rae.

This was amazing. I feel my words for a review will be inadequate.

My heart hurt so often while reading, but it was perfect because the story healed that hurt. I felt what these characters felt, and that's because this author is truly talented.

I typically don't like "all in the feels" books. But this had so much more than that. It made me miss highschool a little, which is ironic because I hated highschool.

The friendships in this are just as important as the main couple. Remi was the perfect definition of book boyfriend. He was patient, kind, loving and bossy when he needed to be.

Shaen was a little bit of every type of girl. Strong, smart, capable, funny, loyal, anxious and dealing with big emotions.

I appreciated that the author only had half the story while they were in highschool. At my age, I don't read many stories with younger characters (unless it's an age gap) because it is one of my icks (book reference 😁).

My only criticism or critique would be that the end felt rushed. There was so much build up with the characters and side characters, and side plot but the end felt like it glossed over that plot with almost no details. I wanted closure regarding Remis choice. And if anything became of Amy and Shaen.

I will definitely recommend this story. I was engrossed every time I picked it up. And I'll keep track of this author because I think she's capable of many amazing stories.

"This Is what It Feels like" was absolutely captivating from beginning to end. The author's writing style is so unique, and the way the words flow together was perfect. What hooked me was the intense connection between Remi and Shaen. The author, Rae, has done an amazing job of conveying their emotions in such a raw and powerful way.

And let's talk about those steamy scenes! They were written so tastefully and added to the story in a way that was both necessary and exciting. I was rooting for Remi and Shaen the whole way through, and at times I found myself getting lost in their story to the point where I was side-eyeing my own husband like, "Do you even love me?"

This book had everything - happiness, anger, disappointment, cringe-worthy moments, and heartbreak. I don't usually give five-star ratings, but this book definitely deserves it. Some of the steamier scenes might be a bit much for some readers, but they were well-written and fit into the story perfectly.

The family secrets that were unveiled throughout the book kept me on the edge of my seat, and the plot twist at the end left me completely speechless. But I won't spoil it for you - you'll just have to read it yourself to see what happens! I'm telling you, this is a must-read. I can't wait to see what Rae comes out with next!

Shaen has planned 3 things in her life prior to graduating high school. Buy a car, keep her feelings in check and stay a virgin as long as possible.
But... do plans ever go as expected?! Not when tall dark haired Remi enters the picture with full force.
Without getting into actual spoilers...
This book goes through Shaen having multiple young adult moments with Remi (and her core friends) which include preparing for HS graduation, navigating a sexual relationship in multiple ways and more, all while dealing with her own personal insecurities and family issues. I also appreciated her development of Remi as a young man who clearly respects a woman's choices, understands boundaries, and is a kind and loving protector.
The author does a great job exploring what a sexual relationship as a virgin can entail as well as beyond. It's interesting to see her touch on topics that most authors wouldn't include in books, like ovulation calendars, especially with characters in the 18/19 age range.
Overall, this was an enjoyable debut romance from author @raelloydwrites. I look forward to seeing whats next to come from Rae and watching her grow more in her craft.

** Received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This is an incredible debut for a romance author! I have been recently reading fantasy romance and appreciated a change of pace with all human interactions. First, I loved Shaen. She owned her decisions, and she was a strong female character, and while young, mature for her age. Remi was also an excellent departure from a macho male interest. He had his issues, but the level of respect and adoration he showed Shaen, as well as his willingness to take responsibility for his actions, made the book. Watching their relationship mature with them at such a difficult age was thoroughly enjoyable. I loved their level of trust in each other. As far as spice level, this was definitely up there and Rae did not shy away from approaching and investigating some of the more taboo aspects of a sexual relationship. Finally, I come from a blended family and I firmly believe that you can build your own family from friends that you choose to love, and this belief also shines through the pages. I read this book in 24 hours and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to do so.

I'm an older reader and have been reading romance novels for a few decades now and in the end, all I can say is WHAT A ROLLER COASTER RIDE this debut book from Rae Lloyd was!!! Literally a roller coaster in so many from start to finish, it's building to a climax (and sometimes literally a physical one) that you can simply FEEL for yourself just like you were Shaen or even Remi. They come alive and flesh out to the point you feel like you know them. You get to watch them grow and learn what a HEALTHY adult relationship is all about even though they didn't have adults to model from. The absolute empathy and care taken in writing this book is amazing and hard to find now. While down and dirty sometimes emotionally and sexually (oh yeah, the sex scenes are excellent! and worthy of a soft porn movie!!!) Rae also managed to capture their full lives and the challenges of being an 18 something nowadays unlike other authors who try but can't quite put themselves in their shoes! (which she does!). Bravo! And PS I wouldn't hesitate to allow my YA daughters to read this it's so well done!!!

And this, this is why I love to read!!!

Love Rae Llyod's writing style, it's captivating from the beginning to end. The story never gets bored, it does not feel like it has to end now. I like that I can't predict which way the characters are heading.
And as a person myself that feel all the feels I felt everything with Remi & Shaen.

And the playlist #chefskiss it makes it all that real.

Uhm the spice were pretty freaking decent for YA. Loved that they experienced it together, all the awkward, silly, first time goodies and they never judged one another. 😂 😂 When Remi messaged her that he 🍆 💦 on his own, ohmahlawd I lost it 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂
They were so comfortable with each other.

Remi & Shaen I'm gonna keep you both for a very long time. 🤗

First, I want to say how beautifully written this book is. Rae did an AMAZING job capturing so many emotions through the whole book. I was completely immersed in the pages as I road the emotional rollercoaster with Shaen and Remi's relationship.

This isn't your typical smut book. This book follows Shaen and Remi from friendship and on, through hurdles, and achievements. It was the true definition of that fairy tale relationship we all dream about and strive for without the prince... one that can be tangible. Without giving away too many details, all I can say is go read it!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I will be recommending this book to everyone!

Thank you Rae, and I can't wait to read future books.

Romance ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Shaen is a very relatable character and I loved her journey from a living a life of feeling and being alone to finding her chosen family. I was immediately invested emotionally and what a eide. Her love interest, 12 out of 10. Sweetest and most understanding book bf you could ask for. Their connection is palpable well rounded. They have great physical chemistry but also such a good emotional connection and it's just so good in all the ways.
There is a goooood amount of spice, but it's done in the sweetest and most intimate way! There's not one spicy scene that you don't feel the love between the characters pouring off of the page. If you want a dirty romance with depth to it, this is definitely for you! Great writing!

It was truly incredible! Her ability to immerse the reader in every emotion and experience is remarkable; I felt like I've known the characters my entire life. The story transported me right into the room with them, a connection that few books achieve. The blend of tragedy and magic in the storyline is beautiful. I'm craving more—I want to know what happens next with Shean and Remi! Liam captured my heart; he embodies the essence of a best friend, and I'd love to read a whole book centered around him. I found myself relating to many aspects of Shean's life, evoking emotions I hadn't felt in years. Reading this book has left a profound impact on me! I can't wait to devour everything else she creates!

What an amazing book. The characters were so well done that you are instantly sucked in. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what the outcome was going to be for the books main characters Liam and Shane. It was such a page turner I finished the book in 2 days. If you are looking for an incredible read I highly suggest this as your next book. The author did an outstanding job on her first published work and I can’t wait for her to write more books so I can devour them just like I did with this one. I wouldn’t have considered myself of fan of romance novels till I read this one. Kudos to Rae Lloyd! She is officially my new favorite author.

This amazing book was the sweetest spice I've read in a long time!!
The characters were developed so beautifully and totally #relationshipgoals.
As someone who fell in love and married her "high school sweetheart," this book brought back all of the good feels.
I loved the strength and resilience of both Shaen & Remi. It was also great to get to know their friend group that's really more like family.
The spice was super hot and also beautiful.
After finishing this book, I felt so connected to the characters that I just didn't want to let them go!! Like, I just wanted to keep living in their world!

Such a great book! I was hooked within the first couple chapters and wished I could be friends with the characters. This book is so well written that I felt like I was watching a movie instead of reading a book. The storyline is engaging, the characters are relatable, and it has the perfect balance of endearing, tough, humorous, and spicy moments. And there are some unexpected twists at the end that will make your jaw drop. If you’re looking for a book that will engage all of your emotions, look no further. Rae Lloyd has written an incredible debut novel and I cannot wait to read her next book.

What a beautiful story about young love. This is beautifully written, and you get a wonderful picture of each and every character. Our heroine has gone through a lifetime of life in 18 short years, and has emotionally raised herself. She’s determined, she has a plan, and she knows what she does and doesn’t want. But then Remi happens. Their love story will leave you wanting more. Their passion and their honestly is refreshing in today’s world where it seems that people don’t know how to communicate with each other. These two have no issue sharing their feelings. You won’t be disappointed by any part of this story.

This Is What It Feels Like

This was my first book by Rae Lloyd, who I only know as a strategic and organized businesswoman. And I was really enjoying the book. The story is about teenagers, or young adults, the main characters are both coming from rather dysfunctional upbringing. The story is sweet, slightly spicy, with an interesting thread throughout the entire book. I usually dread the extreme drama at the end of most romance books, but this one has a different ending - the absence of a drama Queen was refreshing.
I would love to learn more about what’s happening to their friends! (They need their own story.)

I couldn’t put it down, and when I did I was consistently thinking about it and counting down the minutes until I could pick it up again. I was intrigued the entire time. The love between Shaen and Remi…😩They are such a captivating pair. Who wouldn’t want a compassionate and wholesome partner such as Rem? There wasn’t a dull moment. I would recommend this book to any and everyone that loves to read. I can’t wait to see what else Rae comes up with. Definitely a big fan. 10/10
