Koda Perry is a self-made millionaire that can't seem to form his own identity as anything other than a spoiled rich kid. Determined to build his own legacy, he branched out on his own, built a company from the ground up, and became a millionaire before the age of thirty but for his billionaire father, that's not good enough. In his mother's eyes, Koda's life will never be complete until he gets married and has kids. All Koda wants to do is live his life the way he sees fit on his own terms. One of his proudest accomplishments is the Millionaire Boys Club. A group of millionaires that look just like black. Koda's motto is work smart not hard, and he finds a reason to celebrate often. But when an unfortunate accident sits him down and humbles him a bit, rather than it making him better, Koda gets bitter. His entitlement starts to shine through. Koda's antics might intimidate a soft person, but life has hardened August Logan to the point of no return. As long as Koda pays her for her services, she couldn't care less about his attitude. Numb to the BS she does her job and collects her bag. Until Koda starts to rub off on her. Some days she finds herself enthralled and others, she finds herself triggered. Something really good or really bad could come from the two of them being forced into close proximity.
Koda was your typical trust fund baby born with a silver spoon in his mouth. But, he chose not to live off his daddy’s money. Koda didn’t want to be known as just Shalom Perry’s son. He wanted to forge his own path and make his own money. After he graduated from college, he made a promise to himself to become a millionaire before his 30th birthday and he did just that. With multiple streams of income, Koda was a millionaire by the age of 27. His most popular venture is the Millionaire Boys Club he founded at the tender age of 25. Not just anyone is granted access to the popular elite club. The waiting list is long and the membership fees are expensive which, allows Koda to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Multiple cars, luxury vacations, designer clothing, and high end jewelry. If Koda wants it; Koda buys it. His latest purchase goes against his mama’s wishes and might just take him out before his next birthday.
August is suffering in silence. She’s grieving the death of her short lived marriage as well as the death of her baby. To keep her mind off her depression and grief, she keeps herself busy. Between her concierge business, courses, and hangin’ out with her bestie, August can pretend her mental health is okay. It’s not. A phone call from a former church member asking for a favor may just be the therapy August needs. This book started out good and it had great potential but, somewhere along the middle, the story started to drag and lose some of its steam. The multiple, and I do mean multiple, references to Koda being a millionaire were excessive and unnecessary. A millionaire doesn’t walk around talkin’ about his wealth the way Koda did. August’s “triggers” just didn’t feel genuine to me. If you looked at this chic the wrong way, she was triggered. 🙄🙄🙄 The introduction of Devoe came out of nowhere. IMO, I don’t think he was necessary to the storyline. Overall, The Millionaire Boys Club was a decent read. I think both of the main characters were annoying AF but, I loved that the author addressed topics that provoked communication. If you need a quick lil read to get your challenge numbers up, add this to your TBR.
Ya'll..this book. Let me start with the good stuff: the bones of the story is solid. I see what the author wanted to do and the story had great potential. BUT...it felt like she put 20 pages of her writing into an AI writing program and just let that sucker run. Conspiracy theory? Perhaps. But honestly it would explain how repetitive it was. The series is called 'The Millionaire Boys Club' and holy hell were we reminded that Koda was in fact a millionaire. From the name brand dropping to the internal dialogue about what dinner, cars and clothes cost, the mention of money was constant. It really outshined the actual storyline
It was like the author thought we didn’t believe her, the amount of times Koda’s wealth was mentioned was crazy! I hoped there was more to the MMC besides his money but sadly there was not. He was honestly a jerk that was given a pass because he’s rich. The FMC August can be frustrating but she is dealing with some pretty deep trauma and she’s quite self aware. Koda is just an Ahole and no justification is required because he’s a rich man. The book reads like August should just get over her trauma and be happy that this rich man wants her. I love a good millionaire/billionaire love story but I’m a bit disappointed in this one.
This was ok. - We didn’t need to be reminded 1000 times about his financial status. We get it, he’s a millionaire. - Both the FMC and the MMC worked nerves I didn’t know I had. Neither was likable in the least bit. - The beginning of the book was long and drawn out. It felt very wordy and repetitive.
Millionaire Koda + Nurse August I really like their names!
Listen…. There were so many pregnancies and babies in this story. They were being passed around like candy. I could not keep up.
I would call this a grumpy/sunshine but they were both actually pretty grumpy. Koda, founder of the Millionaire Boys Club, a group exclusive to black men who are millionaires, is pressured by his mother to start a family and pressured by his father to work harder and earn more. After a motorcycle accident slows him down, his sister hires a private nurse to help him recover.
August, a private recovery nurse, is suffering through the aftermath of a short-lived marriage and loss of a baby. She is trying her best to keep busy and vows to never have children or get married again. Then she is hired to take care of Millionaire Koda as well as being triggered by everything going on around her.
I loved this story, there were some inconsistencies and flaws, but I used my imagination to fill in the blanks.
I enjoyed this book for the most part. I wish there was more dialogue and less repeated internal monologue. Also the whole thing with Qua was so unnecessary
Omg, my poor heart for August. She really couldn’t catch a break. I love when the mmc gotta be humbled and then life just takes off full throttle and everything they claim not to want is literally in their face. This was such a great read and I cannot wait for Beau.
This book was such a mess. I don’t know what happened. The first thing that irritated me was that the author referenced his millionaire status every other sentence. The plot was very dry, and there wasn’t much romance.
I loved Koda and August’s story. August had some heavy stuff she was dealing with, depression is so real. I’m glad Koda didn’t give up on August, they both needed each other. All it takes is the right woman for a man and August was her to Koda, had him in his feelings big time, lol. I thought Amelia was gonna do something crazy, glad she didn’t. Qua was so outta line and got way less than she deserved. Great book Natisha, you did it again. Can’t wait for the next story.
August is so me deep down lol. “Miss Independent” nurse bae with a hint of self sabotage due to past trauma. I love a play boy turned lover boy troupe. Koda was a bit ruthless but I still loved his personality, makes the storyline less predictable on how they will react in conflict.
This book made me giggle a few times. I appreciated the comedic relief in certain parts. The storyline was something I have yet to come across, and I liked that as well. The characters were likable, and I was locked in from start to finish.
Koda Perry was arrogant, wealthy and the owner of The Millionaire Club where wealthy black men could gather together and unite. They had different things that occurred at the club which was intriguing. However; when Koda is in a motorcycle accident that creates burns on his body. His sister hires him a full time nurse named August that has to bathe him and help him with his everything despite his attitude. She started to grow on him because she was a nurturing person. She was the first person that wasn’t impressed by his money. Great read! 🔥🔥🔥
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I didn’t like how selfish the FMC came across at times. I get that trauma and hurt can shape people, but my lawd, sis ☹️☹️. Self-sabotage is real! That said, overall it was a great story!
Koda is one of those people that thinks having money is a personality trait. He also wasn’t nearly as understanding as he thought he was. And tbh, his parents were right every time they gave him advice he would go on to ignore.
As far as the disappointing relationship on this one, August told him upfront that she really didn’t have any business in a relationship because she was traumatized and required constant reassurance to a level she herself deemed unreasonable for a partner. Koda and his ego volunteer for the job, despite never having been in a relationship or having to deal with someone else’s trauma. And, as soon as august is triggered for a VERY VALID reason and her trauma flares in a way that directly affects Koda, instead of offering any of the reassurance he promised, he becomes offended by her trauma response. Even a little bit of reassurance would have talked her off the ledge. He even admits internally that he responded with his ego, and yet he never apologized for his HORRIBLE response.
It just felt like everyone’s response to August was; “well that’s life, get over it” which is nearly verbatim, actual response. Meanwhile, the surprise with Qua garnered no conversation and August just immediately accepted it. There was no vulnerability from Koda and he seemed to view marriage as a prize that just allows his spouse access to his bank account and peen.
I was left annoyed, but I’d give the author one more shot on another of her series.
Also this is very unimportant, but it pissed me off that he just knew how many yelp reviews the plastic surgeon he recommended to august had from memory 😂
Koda is a millionaire who has plenty of money from multiple businesses. He worked hard and played harder. His mama said the motorcycle is going to be be the death of him. It didn't kill him but he was laid up for a month. His sister got him a private nurse. He was mean and had an attitude. August made him put in work. August has some issues that she has to work. They became an exclusive. Her ex-husband threw her into a tizzy. Questioning herself like is it too soon to be in a relationship, or needing reassuring from Koda, ignoring her friend because she didn't want to be jealous of her pregnancy. Koda is feeling something about the lady who dropped a little boy off and said he was his son. August told him how she really felt about the situation. Then she finds out she is pregnant. August and Koda have conservation about it. They had a disagreement which causes her to leave. She heavy on Koda mind because no woman has told him no. So after Qua hired some people people to rob him and take his son. He realized that life to short not to go after what he wanted. And he wanted August. He flew to Dubai to go get her. Taylor didn't even say anything about it, that's how he found her. They a serious discussion about everything. Koda got his family. So he is off the market.
This was a really good read. This dealt with loss and healing and how the healing process can be ugly sometimes. Even causing innocent bystanders to get hurt.
August really went through some stuff that she needed to not only take time but put in work to heal from. Koda wanted her and was willing to help her through the healing process. He pressed too soon because August put him through it! 🤣 Not only was he dealing with drama from August but he also had his own drama that was stressing him. I started to feel sorry for Koda! But when one is in love, there isn’t much you won’t do, and that was Koda. I’m happy that August was able to take responsibility in the end and that Koda didn’t give up.
This story was great but I just felt like this was context heavy. There were a lot of parts that I felt could have been shorter or wasn’t needed. But that’s just an opinion and doesn’t stop me from looking forward to Beau’s story next!
“Say It Loud, Koda’s a Millionaire & Proud” … we know & how can we forget 🥴‼️ Please stop flaunting your money Koda?! FYI, all the money in the world can’t purchase your character ! “The Millionaire Boys Club: Koda” was a mediocre read. Honestly, I was perturbed for the greater majority of the book with both August & Koda. However, specifically Koda and his antiquated MBC & lounge which was just a glorified sports bar with benefits ! Hmmm🤔, What’s so exclusive about flat screen TV/hookah/cigar & top shelf liquors/strawberry lemonade/lamb chops ? More so, I’m was also annoyed by Koda’s frequent insensitivities, immaturity & misogynistic tendencies towards women, especially the ones he was casually/romantically involved with. He got better towards the end. But what a waste of millions 🤷🏾♀️‼️
First so far this is a great series. It’s well written and not so rushed in which I love. Koda is THAT MAN! I think him being very injured from the motorcycle accident helped him slow down in lot’s of ways. August on the other hand just wanted to stay which I understand because of everything she was going through personally. She and Koda definitely were opposites BUT they had this connection. I loved that August didn’t care about the status Koda had she really just cared for him. AND the part where Koda steps up for Devoe tugged at my heart. I’m so happy through the highs and lows of Koda and August that in the end they worked through it. Can’t wait to read about the other characters that were introduced in this book.
I understand with lost, and failure your mind, body goes through alot, but August was working my nerves just a little she should have never stopped with Therapy until she was better able to deal with certain triggers, but happy she went back and took time to finally healed, after every incident she would sit and think and realized that she was being selfish just like Kids first baby mom. His first time doing something different and.new and for her to only turn out to be like her ex-husband was to her and he didn't deserve that, I knew he had fallen in love with her when he took her home to meet the rest of the family, as well as cutting off his little jump off, which got exactly what she deserved. Great story a must read.
The writing in this book seemed subpar compared to book three in the series. The number of times they reminded the reader about the millionaire status was beyond irritating. The descriptions in the book were enough without all the extra.
The fmc really got on my nerves with her decisions. I was annoyed almost the entire time, though things did pick up a little toward the end. I couldn’t quite give it four stars because the writing felt undeveloped for the first book in the series, but I still plan to read book two and hope for the best.
If woe is me was a person it would August. Like girl why everybody happiness gotta “trigger” you? I didn’t like this MFC at all sis was kinda selfish. Koda was patient and gave her more grace than a little. I read the other millionaire boys club books before this one and enjoyed those a lot better. I did love seeing the chemistry between these 2 when they were good.
August, a nurse, is getting herself together as best she can after the loss of her child and a divorce. All that on top of dealing with depression.
More than anything else about this book, I loved the mental illness representation. All mental illness manifest itself in individual differently so everyone may not have the same experiences as August, but her journey dealing with hers in this book felt real.
Koda comes from a wealthy family, but he's a self-made millionaire, which is not good enough for his billionaire father. He's opened the Millionaire Boys Club where men can join and relax and other things around beautiful women.
After getting hurt he meets August, as she becomes his nurse and then more. They both have some issues, but August is still healing from losing her child.
Overall, I liked this, but when Koda told August I was taken aback.
Still, I'm going to mosey on to the next book in the series soon.
Mental health is so serious! August was going through! I honestly can say I felt for her, but whew Lord she was working my nerves when she got with Koda! He showed her everything different from what she was used to and it still wasn't good enough! I guess the saying is true. Hurt people hurt people! Qua had to be the dumbest girl around! She abandoned her son. Then, her mother turned around and abandoned her grandson. Now she want to come play mother of the year! Girl, try go have several seats! It's crazy how one can envision their life going, but when you come across people that are truly blessings, you find yourself doing things and thinking differently! I loved that for Koda and even though he knew nothing of Devoe, he stepped in and stepped up; his family too! I'm glad Koda and August gave it another go! Your past definitely does NOT determine your future and I love that for them! Great read!
