Dana and Matt Bingham are certain that nothing can come between them Then one day Matt discovers mysterious signs of abuse on their two-year-old son. Although Dana is as horrified as he is, she is called in for questioning by the police. Expecting her husband to defend her, she is shattered to see the accusation in his eyes. The doctors soon make a terrifying discovery, and Josh is diagnosed with a fatal blood disorder. Too late, Matt realizes that even if the doctors can save his son, it appears quite certain that he has lost the only woman he has ever loved.
This was a fast, easy read. It was not what I expected from reading the synopsis, and honestly I didn’t have much hope for this book, so it was a pleasant surprise.
A different read than what i was expecting from a hansen book. You marry more than a spouse, you marry a family. In this book, loyalty and trust are questioned when a couple finish college, move back to help with the spouses family construction business , pulling away from family time and dana and Matt's 2 yr old gets frequent nose bleeds and bruises. Matt's family suspects dana of abuse due to her abusive dis functional family background. Matt loyalty waivers toward dana causing deep hurt. When the doctor discovers a blood disease as the reason for the illness, dana hurt doesn't just turn off. Matt's family and himself have to prove their love and loyalty again. They show dana how a family is supposed to pull together. Dana's family who disown her when she is baptized, refuse to help her son, all except her brother who was wrongfully imprisoned.e
I don't do well with books about children with long-term medical problems. Fortunately, this part of the story was incorporated without being too hard on me emotionally.
I liked the complications between Dana and her in-laws, but felt like it was cleared up too easily at the end. I also thought the other relationships didn't evolve realistically - Warner and Barbara, Barbara and Dana, Dana and her brother ...
That being said, I was compulsively drawn to reading it!
The action parts of the book were a little hard to buy into - guess things like that don't happen to people I know. I did like the things learned about communication, particularly in marriage. Some very good lessons to learn, or re-learn. Jeremy and I read this together, and it was nice to be able to discuss as we read.
Wasn't the BEST book ever - but it really made me think about my relationships with people and how I always assumed if we didn't get along it was their problem not mine, but now I see - I may need to take a second look.
This sure makes you think about how you judge people. Our own ideas and perceptions are often wrong. Do we have the ability to see things from someone else's perspective? This book deals with misjudging people based on our feelings and experiences. Can be an eye opener.
This is sort of intense, not as much as Abandoned, bu t more so than any of her other books I've read. It still kept my interest though and it was interesting to see how relationships evolved throughout the book.
Matt and Dana's young son is sick and Matt thinks its Dana's fault. They soon find out he has leukemia, and they have to find some way to move past their hurt to work together to help their baby.
Dana is a superstar, a real character who has to forgive. Great story, very realistic!
This was not my favorite Jennie Hansen book. It was a lot about relationships and misunderstandings. I am not a big fan of books about children who are seriously ill.
My mom and I both remember this book to this day because the main character is so realistic. So many LDS romances are about perfect people. This one wasn't.
Wow! As a member of the LDS Church, this story was a reminder that we should live the way the Savior lived. Sometimes our priorities and judgments get in the way.
The storyline here was predictable but fairly good. I was bugged by a couple of thing, especially towards the end when the main characters parents right in the middle of this whole scenario when we don't know what wrong and if the child will live or die, decide to go take a few days for themselves to work on their own relationship. SERIOUSLY?! I mean their grandson is DYING. I guess there wasn't much to do so better go concentrate on ourselves rather than support our son.
I did like how thought provoking it was about how quickly people can be (self included) to judge on appearance of things and how fast it can destroy a soul.
Parents of a sweet baby boy find him battered and bruised repeatedly. All thoughts go to the mother and her background. All is not as it appears and we have an interesting story.
3.5 stars. Lots of weighty subject matter--marriage disagreements, attempted murder, embezzlement, cancer, etc. I did like how the main characters were able to analyze their lives and overcome their challenges with hope for the future. It was action packed to the end with several surprise twists.
I have read a lot of Jennie Hansen’s books and this was one of my favorite. You really get to know the characters and can relate with them. I did figure out quite easily who the bad guy was.
