Bumbling hitwoman Maggie Lee has discovered the sister she thought was dead might be alive. She’s desperate to find her, but all of her bosses are making unreasonable demands. Demands she can’t afford not to meet.
Once again, Delveccio, the chocolate pudding loving mob boss, needs someone whacked.
Her obnoxious boss at her day job insists she intervene on his behalf with her semi-psychic friend, Armani.
And the mysterious organization with the power to put her almost-lover Patrick behind bars has saddled her with an annoying new partner and sent her on a mission that has gone to the dogs.
With the clock ticking, Maggie (along with her snarky lizard, dyslexic Doberman and Southern belle cat) does her best to pull off every job without winding up in jail or dead…but is her best good enough?
This is one of the best book series I've come across in awhile. Each book has a few new mysteries to immerse yourself in, and enough ongoing mystery/suspense to keep you up way past your bedtime. Love Mags and her crew. Doomsday and Piss were an amazing addition to the series that I never seen coming.... not that I seen God coming either really LOL. I can't get my book bestie to start this series for anything!!! The books are a MUST READ. You can't help but want to share these adventures and laughs with someone. lpalmerjordan@gmail.com
Maggie is trying to keep the peace at the B&B between her aunts and her wayward sister and there's trouble in paradise with two aunts and their boyfriends. Ms. Whitehat is following Maggie and demands that she find a missing dog. She's on the case with assigned helper Candace. Trying to juggle that and a new job Delveccio wants her to take out has Maggie running on empty. With the help of her menagerie of animals she tackles her jobs with trepidation with hilarious results. Along the way she spots a foe from a previous job and she and Patrick get closer. Armani is still reading kooky tiles and clues to Maggie's dead sister Darlene take a turn for the worst. Looking forward to next book.
I rarely feel motivated to write reviews, as other people say it better than I. But here goes ... Love the series, and enjoy the stories, and the characters. Having got that out first, am I the only one who is disappointed at the way books in a series get shorter and shorter? Books 1 and 2 were twice as long, and great reads. It's so annoying having to buy the next book after only an hour or so. I think the series will be a DNF, unless I get over being huffy, and decide the short story series is worth over $100. As they say, rant over.
When Maggie was in a car accident, her sister and brother-in-law were killed and Katie, her niece and goddaughter, was left in a coma, which she has come out of but is still in the hospital. Maggie hates working in the call centre of an insurance company but doesn't have the kind of money it takes to keep Katie in the high end hospital. To supplement her income, Maggie has become a reluctant hit woman for a mob boss. She has recently moved back to the bed and breakfast she grew up in, which one of her aunts run, and is living in the basement.
Maggie was approached in the last book that she must do the jobs a stranger she's dubbed "Ms. Whitehat" asks of her or she will reveal information that Maggie doesn't want to be revealed. A white dog named Ghost is lost and Ms. Whitehat has tasked Maggie with finding him or else. In the meantime, her mob boss is demanding that she kill his thieving accountant within the next few days. Two of Maggie's aunts are having issues in their relationships and Armani, her semi-psychic friend is making predictions but no one can figure out what they mean. So Maggie has a lot going on.
This is the sixth in the Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman series (#52 is coming out next month) and I thought it was okay. I wouldn't recommend it as a stand alone. You should read the first ones first as there are many references that will make more sense if you have the background, which isn't really provided here but I think needed.
It's written in first person perspective in Maggie's voice and was humourous at times. I had my doubts about this series when I discovered Maggie can now carry on conversations with Godzilla aka God, Katie's tiny lizard, who Maggie takes care of until Katie recovers, DeeDee, a dog she took in when she killed her owner, and Miss Piss, the cat. It sounds dumb but they are amusing and good friends and confidents to Maggie. I'll carry on and keep reading the series.
I must confess , yes I have ocd, now add to that OCR ! I want to put this series aside but I can't . Each book I read I think enough already with all the crazy people and animals and reptiles, and will they or won't they get it together! Then mobsters everywhere and cops you can' trust. So put me in the Looney bin if I read the whole series PLEASE!!!
I 'm hooked! The characters, the plots, some of the humor
These slap-dash-bang mysteries are engaging, fun, and serious when they need to be. Sometimes I laugh out loud at the humor; sometimes it falls flat for me. Right now, I finish one and immediately buy the next one. In my life right now, it's a good time to ostrich- to put my head in the sand. These books are great for that! I recommend that one keep going after the first 3. They get better.
I mean this story gets more interesting the more we read into this series. I like the heroine even though she is kooky. The characters she deals with are a little out there and I wonder if the author knows people like this. I mean at times it seems like you couldn’t make this stuff up.
Don't worry, Maggie doesn't see dead people. She has enough crazy in her life. Lost deeds, lost dogs, lost sisters are all in a days work. Still anti Patrick. Bring back Zeke!
The Hitwoman Hunts a Ghost is the sixth book in the Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman Series by JB Lynn and I look forward to each one. The combination of snarky humor, talking pets, family theatrics, a hitwoman, a sexy cop, and just plain craziness make this series a must read. Especially when you are feeling down. It will put a smile on your face and give you several laughs.
9In The Hitwoman Hunts a Ghost, Maggie finds herself in several situations she did not ask for. We all know she is going to get through them, but the path she takes to get there and the other mysteries she uncovers along the way are what make the book so fun. We don't quite know how she is going to pull it off and most of the time she doesn't either. Maggie's life has not gotten any easier since the first book, the circumstances just change.
Along for the ride is her dog, DeeDee, cat Piss, and lizard, God (short for Godzilla). She can interact with them, but no one else can, which catches the eye of several people along the way. They bring such humor to the story and I find myself wishing my dog could talk to me. It would make life a lot easier.
Also in this book, although not as much as I had hoped was Maggie's murder mentor, Patrick Mulligan who is also a cop. I was so hoping we could see more of their interaction, but sadly, these cases were up to Maggie to take care of this time around. I know there are more books in process so I have high hopes that JB will make the two of these characters work out the way all of us readers want.
If you have read the first several books, you must keep reading because each one is just as good as the last! If you have yet to start on the series, why not start today? They read so quickly and are so laugh-out-loud funny. I wish I could tell you The Hitwoman Hunts a Ghost was a stand alone book, but there is just so much back story and I really think you need to start at the beginning. Trust me, you won't regret it.
OMG if you have not tried this series yet why not! The Hitwoman Hunts a Ghost is the latest installment of Hitwoman series by JB Lynn. If you like some funny with your paranormal romance and maybe a thrill or two this might be a good series for you to try. The series follows Maggie Lee as she falls into a unwanted career as a hitwoman. No matter what she does she can't get out of her not fun career. A car accident at the beginning of the series makes it possible for her to talk to animals which comes in handy when your trying to kill someone and in this book when you're trying to find a dog named Ghost for a shady woman that is blackmailing you. This book like the others is a great mixture of funny commentary, a sexy cop/hitman ( Patrick) and someone getting taken out, literally. I'm always pulled through the story from cover to cover not knowing at all what's coming. I never find the story predictable and there are always interesting twist and turns and a cliff hanger i just know is coming. Exciting from cover to cover what else could you ask for?
Maggie Lee and her crew have had me from "You know it's going to be a bad day when..." and this book continued the witty fun and interesting mysteries that make this series all that it is. This one (Kindle edition) had really large font, which took me a while to get used to, and it felt a bit rushed-- especially in the editing department. I never give a book with a lack of good editing four stars. That said, you better believe this one earned every star. The stories and characters are like family-- you overlook the mistakes because you just LOVE them so. ;) I'm looking forward to more from this series. These are quick reads, tons of fun, and I don't think I've EVER encountered better sidekicks. I find myself talking to my animals more than usual and wondering if I might benefit from an occasional head injury. Bwahaha!
I ought to know better than to start JB Lynn's books after dinner, but I couldn't help myself. Read it straight through - missed last night's Olympics, missed my normal bedtime entirely. It was so worth it! More fun and danger with Maggie! I really love that gal... love the whole cast of characters, really. (Well, except for the stinky boss - but he's not meant to be loved.) And I love how Ms. Lynn always finds a way to make you loathe Maggie's target and totally understand why the person has to get whacked.
The Hitwoman Hunts a Ghost is the latest madcap escapade of Maggie Lee, the neurotic hitwoman. Her life is a crazy as ever and between the mob boss setting up a hit and the bosslady of the shadowy organization blackmailing Maggie's cooperation, she has her hands full. A short, fun romp through Maggie-land.
Another good installment in the Maggie Lee series and things are finally looking up for Maggie! My only complaint is that the books are way too short. They've been getting shorter and shorter since books one and two! Either make them monthly novella installments or have them take longer to be released and be full novel length. As much as I am loving the story and the direction it's going in I want a full length novel of about 400 pages and 7-8 hours of reading!!
Not what I was expecting but held me spellbound to the bed
I was expecting more about her dead sister but was intrigued by the twists and turns. each tasks that was put before her ended completely different than I thought. it answered some but we must wait for the next book to get those answers. It was a very good sequel and left me wanting more.
This book in the Hitwoman series was the best so far. JB Lynn gives a deeper insight to Mags and her family. The mysteries and laughs abound and God, Dee Dee and Piss come through as Mag's animal conscious and support team. Also, Patrick is dreamy as ever! Recommended read for all!
I think this was the most fun I've had while reading a Hitwoman book. The animal antics were just great and I like the human characters as well. Read my full review at Girl Who Reads
I started reading this series and haven't been able to stop! These books are so fun to read, and the antics that Maggie gets herself into are crazy. I can't wait to start the next story!!
This morning I finished reading book 5 and this afternoon finished #6. Dialogue quick, sarcastic and fun, characters full of sadness, happiness or somewhere in between. You may identify with several of them. Enjoy!!
Sometimes when I read a book series I find it difficult ro rate the books individually. I'm not sure if this book deserves four stars or only three. I've read three books today (had a lazy day) and they all blurr together.
With each book, it keeps getting better! Love all the character especially God. He cracks me up. Next book I hope she brings back Zeke. I'd like to see him and Maggie!
