One sibling is grumpy that the rain has put an end to her time painting, the other is loving the outside when she spots the perfect subject for a picture – a rainbow. Together, however, the two can't find it, until they can, and like it, and then decide to go look for one again later in the day. Lucky that the sun is at the right angle after two completely different rain showers, then, eh? Still, one mustn't be realistic about this as this is about finding rainbows, and seeing the cloud's silver lining, and all that positivity stuff. And I like the visuals, and the way the conversation is done through coloured fonts for the different characters to reduce the word count and make the pages less cluttered. But I didn't like the swirly-wirly typesetting, only designed to put off the dyslexic, and I didn't like the bad science behind it all. All told then, slap down the middle.

How To Find a Rainbow is a beautiful story about two sisters who are opposites in their likes, but find a common ground – rainbows! It’s an excellent book for children to follow along, whether they are reading it on their own or with you. The words and phrases are incorporated into the illustrations, it’s brilliant!

I love how it uses simple language to interest children and keep them focused throughout. They will also know how to find a rainbow and how to make their own by the end of the book! A book to make you smile on the rainiest days!

A definite 5-star read for young children!

Red panda(?) sisters Reena and Rekha feel very differently about rainy days. Rekha soon discovers that rainy days make the best days for hunting for rainbows and she gets her artistic sister to help find another rainbow. The colors are both bright and muted to depict the mood of the sisters and their attitudes toward rainy days.

Rainbows are possibly one of the most magical creations of nature that everyone can experience – when there is both rain and sunshine at the same time of course. Stories about rainbows can be found in cultures around the world, we still talk of the pot of gold which may or may not be at the end of them… They are beautiful and hold an air of mystery, they are magical, their shimmery colours inspiring. The rainbow is a symbol, it is a magical thing, it is inspirational and in his How To Find A Rainbow (A Reena & Rekha Story) Alom Shaha shows us how they can bring light and fun into our lives on the greyest of days. He also helps his readers see how we can learn our colours with the rainbow, we can learn how and why they appear without taking away their magic and, this may even be the best part, he includes a fun activity for making your own rainbow! With Sarthak Sinha’s illustrations giving the story a whimsical, gentle feel this is a book that both teaches and entertains, we couldn’t ask for a better combination.

Reena is painting but it is a rainy day and the clouds have made everything seem dark and grey. What she would love is to have something bright and beautiful that she can paint. If she could, she would go outside to find something but then all her painting supplies would get wet. Rekha, Reena’s little sister, on the other hand loves rainy days, the smell of the wet earth, how clean and empty the world seems because, like Reena, everyone wants to stay inside when it rains! Busily splashing in the puddle Rekha is outside when the sun comes out from behind the clouds, bringing with it a rainbow. Urging her sister outside, with her painting things, and of course mummy’s big umbrella to keep everything dry, Rekha is keen to show her sister the rainbow. But the rainbow has moved, and so the sisters must embark on a rainbow hunt; is it by the mango trees, the rice paddies, the bridge or even the top of the hill? No. The hunt continues. Just as Reena is about to give up the rainbow reappears, then disappears and the sisters quickly learn what causes the rainbow to appear and where they might be able to find one…

This beautifully illustrated book is about two Red Panda sisters called Reena and Rekha. They have very different feelings when it comes to rain.

One sibling is grumpy when the rain falls and is upset that it has stopped her from painting her picture. The other sister adores the rain and always uses it to find the perfect subject for a picture.

When Rekha finds that rainy days are the best days to hunt for rainbows, she gets Reena to help her find another one.

The illustrations are unlike any I have seen before. They are really thoughtful with both muted colours to capture the characters mood as well as vibrant colours to capture the beauty.

Great tale for children to listen to or read independently. The simple language will keep the readers interest.
