“Lady Ramsbotham’’ said the man “You have to pardon me for the brusque introduction, I am James Brownrigg, your devoted servant’’
Agnes’ eyes quickly went to detail him. Against her body she felt the firmness of his shoulder, for a stranger he was very reassuring. His head- there was no other word for it- was pretty.

Recently, I was sent this book to review, and the first thing I thought was : Okay. The title sounds a bit boring. I'll read it later. Then after I read the book I was all like: Wow, this is unexpected. Yes, I did think the title was boring, but the story wasn't that bad.

First of all, I thought the narrator's voice was really good. Like really good. I can't exactly find the words to describe the narrator's voice, but it was just really, really good. It was full, and the wording just spoke to me, like how sometimes books are that good that it seems like the book was unravelling itself to you. The same thing went with the characters. The characters were quite likable as well and their personalities seemed to unravel as the story went on. The pacing was also perfect, which is hard to achieve, but it never felt too rushed or slow at times.

I wish this story could be longer. The length of it was a bit too short, and I could have bet that the book would have been a more enjoyable if it was lengthened by a lot. Such as adding a bit more about the characters, more plot and twists. Although it is a romance novel, I would have liked it even better if it was entwined with other genres, such as fantasy, because I felt like the setting and characters would be perfect for the book have some fantasy in it.

I think the story and the narrator's voice was great, but I really would have liked it more if the story had more plot and it was longer. The originality wasn't the best in this book along with the cover that could have been more captivating and appealing, but overall, I think the story was a pretty decent read.

Firstly I rarely read historicals romances but this one was different(the setting in Ceylon and the slow burn between the married couple...) and surprisingly okay.
The end feels a little rushed because I loved the character of Agnes and wanted to read more about her.
I enjoyed the story anyway!
