Nice Western short stories.

This book contains four related Christian western romance stories. Each was a pleasure, though I liked the last story, Texas Angel, the best. The plot line and pacing appealed to me as the least predictable of the four, though even then I knew how it would turn out. The structure of all four stories was similar in nature; the male and female characters in the romance were shown up front. The trouble each must overcome was also given at the start, and it was easy enough to figure out how they'd end. The joy in reading was actually in the depiction of the people and town. It had a gentle flavor of times gone by, which brought you into the scene. I was a bit put out by female characters who wavered so much as to accepting the male character's affection. After a while, they needed to "get one with it." However, overall, it was an enjoyable read. Good clean stories for adults or teens.

This is the first time I have ever read Christian fiction. I purchased this book not really knowing what it was but I am so thankful I did! I thoroughly enjoyed reading these four stories and how these women became closer to God through what they were going through. The fact that it is based in 1880's Texas thrills me because if I could choose one era to live in it would totally be the old cowboy times! I recommend this book to anyone who needs a lift in their spirit. More then once I caught myself identifying with one of the characters and their walk with God! I love it!!

Four sweet historical romance novellas that all take place during the 1880's in the small town of Dogwood Texas. Each novella focuses on one of the towns' ladies who have had trouble with previous romances and are hesitant to trust a man again. The four ladies are all friends and that ties the novellas together. Quick, enjoyable and easy to read with good Christian faith throughout each of them.

DNF. I wanted to love this since it is set in East Texas....started out good, quickly lost interest. Too slow.

Every time I read "Christian fiction," I am amazed. On the one hand, the prose itself is so bad, I quite literally cringe when I read it. On the other hand, the cheesy characters and overly-dramatic plot points stick in your mind and eat you alive. You read a chapter of "Texas Rose" (the second "novel" in the anthology) after breakfast and the entire day your mind is full of "Is Kate really going to leave McCall? How will Drew react?" The result is akin to the train wreck analogy: It's so painful to look at, but impossible to leave.

I love the idea of Christian fiction, but the execution, not so much. The characters are cartoonish. You're either a very bad guy or a really good guy. No one is ever in the middle. I wonder sometimes if someone who doesn't believe and struggles what they think if they pick up one of these and find out that Christians only committ/confess to "safe" sins. Where does this leave them?

All four stories were a joy to read. They had strong characters that were interwoven in each story, which is very important when stories follow each other like this. I came to care about the characters, and couldn't wait to read what happened next. I didn't want this book to end.

I enjoyed each of these short stories that comprise the book. Each story is connected to all the others but just highlights different individuals in each one. I think I probably liked the last one, Texas Angel, the best, but I liked them all.
