Is Justine crazy?

Everyone thinks so...

Her mother. The kids at school, and the teachers and administrators too. Even the police who pick her up from her night rambles. Maybe them most of all.

Justine’s therapist says she is ‘troubled’, but it means the same thing. He thinks that her vivid, reoccurring nightmares and atrocious behavior point to some trauma in her past; but Em, Justine’s mother, can’t explain it.

Justine used to have Christian, her best friend and skateboard partner. He was the only one who accepted her. Maybe because skating is the only time that Justine is really free to be herself. Now that Christian is gone… Justine keeps thinking things can’t get any worse.

Even as she sees her life spinning further and further out of control, Justine can’t give up her sense of who she is—someone far different than the loving daughter Em expects her to be—to just fit in and be happy. She is sure that Em secretly holds the key to who Justine really is. But if she does, Em isn’t talking.

Personal Response
I read the book Stand Alone by P. D. Workman and I enjoyed this book a lot. It is about a troubled teenager named Justine who goes through a lot in life, including loosing her best friend, Christian. All she wants to do is find her place in the world. This book takes you in wanting to read more right from the beginning keeping you thinking about the characters even after you read it.

Plot
Justine is a troubled kid right from the get go. Her favorite thing to do is skate and ride around just thinking about life. By loosing her best friend Christian she does not know how to find herself again. She takes as much time to skate around as possible but it lands her in some obstacles. She ends up in the hospital a few times, and also gets arrested as well. She has no friends; all she has is her self, her board, and her mother Em. She does not get along with her mother at all, and they are trying to fix the problems.

Characterization
The main character is Justine. She is 15 years old and her favorite thing to do is skate. She likes to wear her dirty clothes, even wipes off some stains before going out. She does not care what people think about her and she is considered an outcast. Her mothers name is Em, and her and Justine do not get along. They are both stubborn and want the best for themselves.

Impacts of Setting
This book takes place during modern time, being able to connect with anyone reading the book. Also it takes place in a big city next to an old abandoned town.

Thematic Connection
The thematic connection of this book is to find out where our place is in society. To find out who we really are and embrace it. Justine found her place in the book by standing out and not letting anyone influence her choices.

Recommendation
I would refer this book to anyone looking for a book to read. Anyone could read this book because it can connect with almost anyone in a different way. I would definitely recommend this book to any teenager or preteen. I would also recommend this to any teacher trying to find a connectable book to read to their students. Also this book would be great for someone who is going through a hard time in life and needs to keep their mind off reality. This book is also gender neutral so anyone can read it.

This book is not for sale yet but when it is you will love it. I finished it today and really enjoyed reading it. The author gave me a copy to help her and for an honest review.

It is about a young 15 year old, Justine, who feels something is not right in her life with her mom, who she calls Em.

Justine loves her skateboard and spends as much time on it as possible. She has lots of dreams that leave her with questions. Her best and only real friend was killed in a skating accident and she has a hard time dealing with that.

Justine does not give up trying to find out just who she really is and goes through a lot with that. She runs away a lot and ends up in the hospital a few times, jail a few times. She tries to get Em in trouble all the time but it always ends up getting herself in more trouble.

I can't give anything more away. That would not be fair. I do wish that it had more in the end about some things but I did honestly love this story. It was a very sweet story that a lot of us may be able to relate to in so many ways.

I think P.D. Workman is a wonderful author and I will be reading more books by this author. There are a couple of her books that are on Amazon and they sound good. I loved this book and have given it a 5 star because I know that when it is published it will be well worth it and other's will love it as much as I did.

Thank you for the honor of getting to read this before it has been published. I really enjoyed helping you out Ms Workman. Another up and coming author for us book lovers to watch out for.

Wow. One of the most powerful stories I have ever read. This one is going to stick with me for a long time. I know people can dismiss when someone claims very early memories. I remember images from when I was under 3 years old. I actually really liked Justine and I wasn’t surprised by the ending…it fit. I loved this book.
