Buttrick fails to capture the depth of Jesus' rich parables and botches even the most basic of the parables' meanings (the physical return of Jesus, the reality of hell, the depravity of man-and therefore the extent of God's grace, etc.). There are a handful of good quotes and interesting ideas (e.g., Jesus likely drawing from his own experiences for the content of his parables), but nothing worth reading the whole book for.
