Ten years ago, Violet Collingsworth left the town founded by her family, eager to escape a domineering grandmother and a past filled with hurt. Finally able to pursue her own dreams, Violet has spent the last decade travelling and enjoying adventures in the outdoors she loves so much. But now her grandmother's death has brought her back to Collingsworth and to the conflicted familial relationships of her past. Settling down anywhere, let alone Collingsworth, was not part of her agenda, but a run-in with the town sheriff has her reconsidering.
Sheriff Dean Marconett had heard plenty about the Collingsworth sister who loved to travel, but he never imagined he'd be so drawn to her when they finally met. Will he be able to convince Violet to consider settling down in the town she fled from so long ago? Or will her adventuresome spirit and the hurts and fears of her past drive her away from a chance at love?
I haven't delved into this series yet since I mostly stick to my Kindle Unlimited titles. But I've loved everything else I've read of KRJ's, so I was happy when this went up for free on BookBub. It was a sweet story, and I'm definitely interested in reading the rest of the series eventually. I think I like the Callaghans & McFaddens and Blackthorpe Security series better, but she does really well writing the complexities of non-traditional family dynamics. The Collingsworths definitely have that!
I enjoyed this book very much. This is the first book by this Author that I have read. I hope to read more from this Author. I thought the characters are very developed. I very much enjoyed the main characters in the story, Dean, Violet, and little Addy. Dean and Violet have a growing relationship that both want to take to the next level. Dean hasn’t told Violet about Addy although he plans to; but Violet learns about Addy and feels that Dean didn’t trust her enough to tell her about Addy and without waiting for an explanation leaves without giving him the chance to explain. She also has fears about being a Mother. She takes a break to think things over. My favorite part of the book is when Dean and Violet clear the air and proceed with their relationship. It is beautiful and moving. I also enjoyed Violet’s and Addy’s first meeting. The story is free from profanity and no graphic sexual dialogue. Just good storytelling.
This is Book 1 in the series and so a lot of characters were introduced; I liked all the characters and plan to read more books in this series to learn their stories. Violet Collingsworth is coming home to Collingsworth for her grandmother's funeral. She left Collingsworth 10 years ago and never planned to return; her adventurous spirit thrived with distance between her and her controlling grandmother. When she first arrives in town, she is pulled over for speeding by a sheriff with the bluest eyes, and she is surprised at just how attracted she is to the sheriff.
Dean Marconett is the sheriff in Collingsworth who is raising his niece, Addy, ever since his twin sister was killed in a drive-by shooting. All the girls in town try to get his attention, but he isn't interested in any of them. He is surprised at how quickly he becomes interested in Violet when she comes to town. Especially since she has spent so much time avoiding the very town that he feels a part of.
Violet's mother had 5 daughters; there is a young 6th "daughter" who is being raised as a sister, but is actually a niece (and a daughter to one of the 5 sisters - but we don't find out which one). All 5 daughters have different fathers and don't even know who the fathers are. They haven't seen their birth mother in years and so they have been raised by their grandmother. There is a clause in the grandmother's will that will change all their lives... We learn the condition of the will in this book, but will have to wait for future books to see how it all plays out.
This is a Christian book so there were religious references, but I didn't feel like it was over the top like some books...
I really enjoyed the first novel in the collingsworth series and would like to read the others.
A group of sisters who were raised by their grandmother are returning home to the town founded by their ancestors for their grandmother's funeral. The older sisters struggled with their relationship with their grandmother and left town years ago but are coming home to face the past. The 2nd oldest sister, Violet, is the main character of this story.
Violet does not trust easily so when she starts to develop feelings for the sheriff she is unsure what to do. He has secrets of his own that if she finds out he is afraid she won't stay and consider putting roots down.
Violet is also searching for answers to find her mother. Her sisters all have different fathers and they haven't heard from the mother for almost 20 years. Now that Gran is dead, Violet hopes to discover where she is and possibly find closure to many childhood struggles.
I for one want to know more about the family. There was lots of great tidbits thrown into the story but not enough to answer any questions fully. I'm assuming those will be answered the further into the series you read.
Tender story about 5 sisters who return to their family home after their domineering grandmother passes away. There is tension between them as they deal with their loss and lives in very different ways. This story focuses on Violet, the free spirit, who broke away from their grandmother's control and roams from town to town as a travel guide journalist. Putting down roots, especially in her former hometown is difficult for Violet, but handsome Sheriff, Dean, intends to persuade her to stay. However, he has a few secrets of his own. This is a series of books that deal with parental abandonment, faith, and love that can be built when we trust God's will for our lives. Sweet story.
This was a fast, predictable, good book. Perfect for a night after too much caffeine and sugar for my body to sleep. Many characters were introduced and their lives and roles in this first book were touched on setting it up for the series. I will most likely read the second book and see if the story unfolds different from what I am expecting before committing to the entire series.
Makes me want to read more about this family and hopefully continue following Violet and Dean in other books. Their romance was quick, but not complete at the end. Which I'm happy about. They didn't get married in a matter of weeks...just fell in love. There is more there. So it's almost not an ending, Jordan really makes you need the other books to continue the story. But it seems like a story worth continuing.
Though, she could've used a couple more edits. There were quite a few mistakes that I saw while reading.
Clean, Sweet, Christian Romance This is a wonderful book that has me wanting to read the rest of the series. There is a hint of mystery to this romance. The characters are great and well developed. The most interesting is the recently deceased grandmother who left some serious puzzles in her wake. The author knows how to build a story and bring the reader along for an interesting ride. I will be looking for more of her work.
The pacing felt off. Like the first 70% was normal then all of the sudden it is just super fast. Why do people always claim to be in love after like a week in books? It just seems weird. I liked the introduction of all the sisters and the mystery in their stories. I wish some things would’ve been fleshed out a little more. Character development, relationships, other supporting characters. Just felt a little rushed.
When Violets grandmother passes away all the older sister cone home four the funeral. Jessa has lived at the manor with younger sister Lily and Rose. Violet meets Dean, the Sheriff, on the way into town when he pulls her over for speeding. Will Dean be the reason she decides to call Collingsworth home again.
Beautiful story of love, forgiving and faith. Sisters meeting together for a funeral, can be filled with sisterly love and a bit of jealousy & anger. Sweet romance and learning to trust and through a darling 6 six year old in the mix and you have all the making for this wonderful story. So good and uplifting. I stayed up reading till 3 am.
I enjoyed reading this book. Seeing how two people overcome their past when they fall in love is great. The way they turned to God for His guidance was so heartwarming. I wish more people would depend on God that way.
This book kind of pull me in. We have moved a lot and I have often wondered where does God want me to plant roots to call home. Difference is I am married.
This is the first book I have read by Kimberly Rae Jordan and I have to say she is now one of my favorite authors! Very well written and clean love story. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
I enjoyed the story (curious to know about her mother)
It’s an interesting series. I like especially when you can pick up on the characters in other novels. Now, I’m curious to know Jenna’s story (and Cami’s)
A break from the regular romance. Some of the plot was predictable, but there were also plot elements introduced that I hope get addressed in future book.
Second time I read this book. It was just as enjoyable as the first time I read it. It has a lot of secrets in it that come out in each of theboks in the series.
