Lola’s family has just moved to a new town because her mom is working there as a firefighter. One when Lola and her new neighbor, Noah are walking to school together, when they find a tiny black kitten in a tree. When they get back from school, it’s still there and it’s being rescued by Lola’s mom! Lola gets to adopt the little kitten and she names him Arlo but one day, Arlo disappears and Lola doesn’t know where he is! I loved this book about Lola and
her kitten, Arlo. There wasn’t much I didn’t like about this book. It was just a sweet book about a girl and her kitten.

The Firefighter’s Kitten is an endearing children’s early readers book that follows the journey of Lola, a young girl who grapples with the challenges of relocating to a new town, away from her familiar surroundings when her firefighter mum is moved to a new station

Lola has gone from living in a flat to a house with a garden and has been told that when they are settled she can get a cat, just like her new friend Noah. However, her wish may come a little quicker when she and Noah discover a stray kitten stuck up a tree and need the fire brigade to help get it down.

The plot is very sweet and I’m sure it will be relatable to those children who have moved house or school and found it difficult as it shows Lola adjusting to her new surroundings.

The text is larger than average and there are some lovely black and white illustrations throughout which will help children to picture the characters and places.

Overall, this is a great book for a new reader wanting to move on from picture books. It isn’t too demanding in length and the text doesn’t contain any difficult words. It also has plenty of talking/learning points so the reader can find out more about the subjects within during or after their read.
