Second Edition new cover. The residents of Boone’s Branch Landing, a little town in the Tennessee mountains, have a saying. “There’s more than heaven and earth.” When Bill Maybe, retired Navy SEAL, moves to the Landing, he is hoping to find some peace and quiet after seventeen years in Naval Special Warfare Command. What he finds when he arrives is a small town living in fear. The source of their fear seems to be a gang of toughs who have set up a crystal meth lab in the hills near the town. As Maybe is drawn into the town’s troubles, he discovers something else in the hills, something he can’t explain and refuses to believe.
Good story. A lot of true facts. Some weird stuff. But who am I to judge. I have see some strange things I can't explain. Very well written and composed.
Excellent story. Suspend your sense of disbelief - or believe the uexplainable. Where do Navy Seals go after they retire? This enjoyable book and its two follow on books offers an enjoyable possibility.
Started this book out of curiosity. Figured on a change of pace. But after starting it I found it highly enjoyable and fast paced. I recommend this book to anyone.
I liked his war books better but enjoy the new angles of a retired Navy Seal. I have down loaded the other 2 books in the series and will start them soon.
I had a friend...Battalion Chief Maybe of the LACountyFireDept. Also I was , in1943, a bell week partner at the Amphibeous Training Base at Ft Pierce, FL. The book brought back memories. U. D. Teams took a while to grow to the Seals. Our team am had to carry a telephone pole around the camp. We did the battle of Okinawa, mustering out in 46. Good job blending frog men back home to the hills.
I didn't expect this book to be this good. While it's not my usual genre, I chose it based on the description.I am so glad I did.It has action, romance and a touch of the supernatural.I can't wait to read the next one,and look forward to more in this series!
The suspense kept my attention. It flowed and while one may have thought what was going to happen next wasn't always correct. Once I started reading it was difficult to put down. Looking forward to reading the one by Mr. Pyle.
A good blend of small town and rural American living with a touch of the dangerous drug issues in much of the country today. My Kentucky background made it even more believable to me and it could easily have happened there. I look for book 2.
