This is a fantastic read aloud book for your school day! This book teaches business principles by following a family’s activities throughout the year. My favorite part of this book was highlighting of the family relationship and dynamic. Clearly a Christian worldview, but even still, it showed the slow, everyday commitment a family should have to each other: family dinners, discipleship, extracurricular activities, discipline, respectful dialogue. These are elements even a Christian family could overlook. The Mills Family certainly shows what life in a loving family can look like, through the highs and the lows. After reading this book and taking a stab at our own little business venture, my kids are well-versed and exposed to business principles. Most notably, they understand that business isn’t just a way to make money, but a way to glorify God by caring for customers, giving generously, obeying authority, and being humble listeners and hard-working doers.
I definitely recommend this to your 2-5th graders as a read aloud with discussion (which is provided in each chapter) and as an independent book for 6th+.
Lots of good business information for kids written with a Godly perspective. But it is a bit dry and as my little said, it’s pretty boring…there’s not much plot…something needs to happen.
