letting it go

Letting go of who you think you are isn’t easy neither is letting go of imposter syndrome. Being your authentic self is the key to this and the author did come through with that and give ideas on how to be authentic self. This is a good guide, a bit long-winded, but can help those who want to embrace their true self

I finished this book several weeks ago and waited intentionally to write this review to make sure the experience from reading the book was not just “an afterglow”. It isn’t. I’m still very conscious of the actions described by Serena and apply them as needed.

I can’t claim that I am 100% cured and don’t struggle with the filters that block me, but I am very much aware of them now and am actively working to remove them. Some of these are 60 years old and are strong.

This book is easy to read and is full of helpful information including PDF’s of all images in the book, comprehensive checklists and worksheets of all exercises, extended MP3 audios, daily journal sheets, a short series of email messages. She is very concerned that you are successful in overcoming your imposter syndrome and equips you with excellent resources.

I highly recommend this powerful book.

This was a great introductory work on what imposter syndrome looks (and feels) like, with many tangible examples to bring the material to life.

I do feel like this book could have used another round of edits, many of the examples started to feel repetitive which took away from my focus as a reader on the content they were highlighting. Additionally many of the examples were rather one-dimensional, some additional diversity in the individuals and situations would have helped keep things interesting.

Overall I enjoyed the message of this book and feel this is an import and timely topic. Unfortunately the presentation missed the mark for me personally.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The first step in dealing with an issue is to give it a name or identify it.

I have been dealing with the feeling of inadequacy (even if other people give positive feedback about how I work and think) for the longest time. It was hard to pinpoint the problem until it was given a term: impostor syndrome, which accurately described what I was going through.

The book gives you an overview of the said issue as well as how to deal with it in ways that you can gradually apply in your life. I haven't finished the book as of this review but it helps me with my own version of the impostor syndrome. A recommended read for people like me.

Insightful and Enlightening: This book delves deep into the intricacies of impostor syndrome, challenging the common misconception that it only afflicts those at the lower rungs of the ladder. The author compellingly argues that even the most accomplished individuals grapple with feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. By tracing the origins of impostor syndrome back to patterns formed in early childhood, the author sheds light on its pervasive nature and offers a fresh perspective on how to navigate its challenges.

One of the book's most compelling insights is the notion of accepting impostor syndrome without allowing it to define one's identity. Instead of futilely attempting to suppress or deny these feelings, the author advocates for acknowledging them as part of the human experience while refusing to let them dictate one's actions or self-worth. This empowering approach encourages readers to cultivate resilience and self-assurance in the face of internal doubts and external pressures.

Moreover, the book provides practical strategies and actionable advice for overcoming impostor syndrome and reclaiming a sense of confidence and authenticity. Through engaging anecdotes and research-backed insights, the author offers readers a roadmap for challenging limiting beliefs, embracing vulnerability, and cultivating a mindset of self-compassion and self-validation.

In summary, this book is a must-read for anyone grappling with impostor syndrome or seeking to better understand its psychological underpinnings. With its incisive analysis, relatable anecdotes, and empowering message of self-acceptance, it is sure to resonate with readers at all stages of their personal and professional journeys.

This is a great book to read for those who have imposter syndrome. Sadly, some people are not aware that they have imposter syndrome in some areas of their life. This book clearly explained what an imposter syndrome is.
It is very timely that I have read this book. I want to resign from my job for 8yrs to be a freelancer and there are thoughts creeping in my mind that I am not good enough, what if I fail, what if my client don't like me, what if the potential client reject me etc. This book help me to face life with confidence and to focus on my innate gifts, talents and strengths to have fulfilling life.

very insightful for me

I've had several years of CBT under my belt and several of the exercises given I could definitely relate to doing well and easier as I've done the course work before. I found the book extremely helpful in addressing my issues with imposter syndrome and being able to embrace what's unique and special of ourselves that sets us apart from others has been freeing to say the least, like a wrong sized mantle I have been holding up all this time. we all have our own special super powers and embracing them full on versus discounting them will pave the way for continued pursuit of self mastery

Most of the time, although I know that I'm doing my best, I still tend to question myself if I'm doing things right. I am always scared of my own actions and feel anxious of how people around me will possibly respond. This book by Serena Choo provides explanations and examples of what is really happening to people experiencing Imposter Syndrome. What I really appreciate in this book are the mind exercises within parts, which helped me to really reflect on my actions towards myself.

This is a very good read. I hope people who find it hard to embrace themselves get a chance to read this book.

This book by Serena Choo is about transforming self-doubt into self-assurance. One thing I realized upon reading the book is the 'fake-it-til-you-make-it' mentality. As Taylor Swift said in one of her songs, “It's fine to fake it ‘til you make it, ‘til you do, ‘til it's true,” which has become my mindset for self-improvement and growth. By embodying this mindset, I gradually internalize genuine confidence. Definitely a must-read!

I’m currently doing a personal project and want to launch it early this year. Oftentimes, there is a conflict between the “capable me” and the version that says “would anyone appreciate this?” I truly want the former to win! Reading this book helps me with that daily campaign.

very thought provoking

I love reading self help books even though, like most men, I don’t think I need any help. The author’s experience as a coach in the field really shines through and it felt like a one to one session which made the whole book seem like it was written for me.
