Seven junior high students are granted access to a mysterious castle. The only thing connecting the kids is that none of them go to school during the day. Kokoro sees the castle as the only place where she truly belongs, but not everyone feels that way. Ureshino announces one day that he's going back to school, but as summer vacation comes to an end, Ureshino returns with mysterious injuries. As it becomes clear that everyone in the castle has their own hidden secrets, Ookami-sama announces a new rule that will change everything.

my library finally acquired the next volume! i love seeing how everything played out from the novel in the manga, it’s always nice to see the characters’ expressions (:
I am really just kind of in awe at how much more I am enjoying this story in manga form. I really care about these kids and am so invested in what's happening in the story. Also really enjoying the artwork. There was one page where I just stopped and stared at the art for a while...I really connected with what Kokoro was feeling in that scene and it was just beautiful. Looking forward to volume 3.
I'm going to keep reading the manga, but it's not as good as the actual novel. Knowing what the twist is, there are more clues and hints here to lead you to the correct conclusion, but it makes "buying into it" as a reader harder.
I have read the LN so now reading the manga adaptation then on to the movie. This is for the July group read on the Japanese Literature forum. https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Another fascinating volume. Within the castle, Kokoro finds relief from the anxiety and pressure she feels in the outside world through connecting with the other students. But as summer begins, tensions rise and they realize they all have their own secrets.
A wonderful story. Great pacing. In this one, we slowly learn more and more about each of the visitors to the lonely castle. Ookami-sama also reveals new rules that make the visitors question just how much they want their wishes to come true.
Beautiful artwork. Expressive and engaging.
This volume ends with a big reveal, setting up the next book nicely. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Volume 2 of the fantasy series follows the lives of the children living their double life inside the magical castle where the fear and anxiety of their real life cannot follow. But slowly disagreements between the children start to creep in and the castle and Fuuka starts to wonder if the castle is truly an escape. Meanwhile, the Wolf Queen reveals more clues to the location of the magical key that will grant just one wish to one of the children.
