Despite its generative A.I. creation, 100% from text to blurb to "author" bio to cover art, I made an attempt to actually read this one in full. What the hell, I'm bored and it's short. Let my efforts be a testament to my resilience as ChatGPT weaves a tapestry of falsehood and mediocrity. As I read this book with unwavering determination, I felt a mix of despair and loathing. (That's what A.I. writing sounds like, by the way. Check out my Kindle notes and highlights for endless examples straight from the text. Every goddamn thing is a testament, a tapestry, endlessly superlative and unwavering and resilient).
So having read it (kind of, skimming was clearly in order), I can definitively say: it adds fuck all to value to the basic story as available on Wikipedia (this story is The Juniper Tree, by the way). It actively makes the story worse, adding details that don't make sense and adding the usual A.I. happy crappy hopeful milquetoast positivity to it all.
This needs a lot of work done. the writing is mixed up. there is a lot of crap that isn’t needed. He messed up the timeline with the family. Clara had Marleen yet later he goes on to call her ‘her stepmom’ or ‘mama Clara.’ She was 2 when William was in of elementary age. His mom died in his childbirth. It just failed. The story would be a decent story if it was planned better. I felt like the author just typed it up and immediately printed it.
