Music Marketing for the DIY Musician: Creating and Executing a Plan of Attack on a Low Budget

Rate this book
There has never been a greater need for practical DIY marketing advice from a musician who has been there and succeeded than now – at a time when new technologies make it more possible than ever for musicians to attract attention independently and leverage their own careers, and record industry professionals look exclusively for developed artists who are already successful.

Written by a professional musician for other musicians, Music Marketing for the DIY Musician is a proactive, practical, step-by-step guide to producing a fully integrated, customized, low-budget plan of attack for artists marketing their own music. In a conversational tone, it reveals a systematic business approach employing the same tools and techniques used by innovative top companies, while always encouraging musicians to stay true to their artistic integrity. It's the perfect blend of left-brain and right-brain marketing.

This book is the culmination of the author's 25 years in the trenches as a musician and entrepreneur, and over a decade in academic and practical research involving thousands of independent artists and marketing experts from around the world. The goal is to help musical artists take control of their own destiny, save money and time, and eventually draw the full attention of top music industry professionals. It's ultimately about making music that matters – and music that gets heard!

finally finished with this even though it took a few months! super thorough with lots of good information that was a perfect way to take a lot of what i've learned from my marketing and business degrees with music and also a little bit of journalism. definitely outdated though and i should've read his newer edition. only issue is that the tone is super redundant and obnoxious at times. editor should've made it much more brief. some of the ideas also just seem super not applicable, but maybe that's just how times have changed. overall, though, a pretty good intro the indie music business for me so i'm content.

Uvibe is still my favorite service to promote music right. https://uvibe.co/soundcloud-music-pro... I could not recommend them highly enough (e.g. proactive email updates regarding order status, monthly reports, etc.). They were very patient and knowledgeable about music promotion in terms of the right audience for my music genre. Will read this publication to learn more about Music Marketing

To be fair, the book itself isn't bad. It's informative for the purpose. My issue is that it's written as though the reader has little to no marketing background. If you know me at all, you know that this is not the case. While I found the information valid, this was more of a "marketing 101" course where musicians are something of a background character. It definitely reads like a textbook.
