John L. Smith was a Southern Baptist preacher who served in Utah for several years. He studied Mormonism "religiously" and, after retiring from his regular preaching schedule, spent many years exposing the errors of Mormonism to those who otherwise might have been deceived.

His books on Goodreads also include "Hope Or Despair?" and "Thirty-Five Mormons and One Baptist Preacher".
