This volume from the Great Women in History short beginner biography series uses two or three simple sentences opposite a picture on each two page spread to relate the life of early astronomer Maria Mitchell. Facts are given in chronological order with a time line running the bottom of the pages. Dull historical pictures and the timeline not divided to scale intervals of time accurately detract from the overall good historical content of the book. A glossary, index, web resources, and bibliography are included. Critical thinking common core questions make this useful in learning to read nonfiction selections. This book was provided by the publisher for professional review to SWON libraries.
