Jill can’t help but feel she didn’t do enough to help Goldie Barr, and she is determined to find out who murdered her. Meanwhile, someone from her past makes an unexpected appearance with disastrous consequences.
I don't know how Adele Abbott finds a way to keep this series interesting in this 50th edition of the Witch P. I. mystery series. This book seems just a bit different in tone from the more recent books. The changes are subtle and for the better. It's a bit more mellow and the characters a bit more mature, especially Jill's daughter, but Grandma and Jill are still their apologetically narcissistic, manipulative selves! Kathy is still her bossy self. Jack is still his long suffering self. I don't know how he puts up with Jill, but he does. Winky still manages to cause trouble even though he's now just a ghost. And there are still annoying side characters to make Jill's life more frustrating. I was glad to see her stretching her magic skills a bit more in this book, but she's still living on past laurels and still relying on the doppelganger and forget spells too much. All of the mysteries were interesting. I loved the talking teddy bear and the visiting artist. I hope they continue to appear in the series. I'm glad to see there are two more books in the pipeline. Please keep on keeping on, Ms. Abbott!
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Adele does such a fantastic job with these witty books. Every one has a similar formula but no one is boring. Each one is fresh and entertaining.
This one is no different. I adore Jack, Jill and alk the regulars. I love the funny plights they get into and all their personalities. I particularly liked this new book's cases, there were more of them but they tied together well.
If you're a long time reader, dive right in. You won't be disappointed.
If you're new, tho Adele works magic and every story is a standalone, she has developed her cast of characters over many books and I do recommend starting from the beginning.
So glad these cone out on a regular basis. I get stuck in so quickly and finish them far too fast. Its a lighthearted fun read that makes it to the too of my TBR every quarter!
Wonderfully amazing how Jill ends up in so many predicaments. Ms. Abbott definitely has the knack at getting her there and back out again. Especially the things that happen in her family where she gets rooked in to doing something by her grandmother, who doesn't always tell her what is being expected. The last group here kept here busier than a week. One thing I'm so glad about in Jill's world is she has so many incredible friends to help her figure things out and are able to help her as needed. Thanks to Ms. Abbott for another great book that gives us the insight into Jill's world.
The Witch P.I. series is easily my guiltiest reading pleasure. I have read all 50 volumes (they go quickly). Almost all of the characters are annoying to some degree. They often annoy each other. Nevertheless, the character interaction is the most fun part of the books. The crimes seem secondary until near the end when everything falls into place. The earliest books about the main character haphazardly working her way to becoming the most powerful witch in the supernatural city set the stage for all that follows, so start with #1. Adele Abbott provides the silliest crime fiction around. Bless her for that. Taking crime seriously kills my spirit.
A great continuation of the series! I really enjoyed the variety of investigations and the clever ways they were solved. One of the highlights for me was seeing how she balanced and interacted with both the "real" world and the SUP world—it adds such a fun dynamic to the story. Another entertaining, fast-paced read from Adele Abbott!
I love your books Adele. They make me chuckle constantly with the names and Grandmas antics. Good array of stories to keep you guessing who did ig to. Can’t wait for 51
Again, another fun book but also sad when she figured out the murderers. Of course the name of dome of the chapters were fun - the nursery rhyme ones. I can hardly wait for the next one.
As ever, a delightful mix of magic, detective work and humour. I love these books. I can't wait to read the next one, to see how Humphrey is getting on, if Mr Flatley gets his way with the fence and the continuing saga of Winky.
Yes, I have read all 50 books so far and still really enjoy reading this series. It’s light reading, funny, and my go to when I just want to enjoy a quick read.
