My overwhelming thought with this book is that the main character is incredibly dumb and gullible. I get trusting nice people, or being slightly blind to a few red flags in life but she seemed to ignore every single thing that was obviously bad, crooked, or dodgy. I knew from page 30 that the ending would be about her facing off against the Maddens, and knew that nobody else was actually at thought.
I have read a few Nora Valters books before and they have been similar but still had good twists or engaging characters, this once missed the mark a bit.
I am giving it 3 stars (5/10) for the fact that I still enjoyed the pacing of the story and the storyline (although predictable) was fun and well thought out in some areas. Not my favourite from the author but good for a quick easy read.

The main character was an immature mess and I wasn't sure if I wanted to stick with her. Yes let's crash a party where you know no one and yes, let's get black-out drunk, and yes, let's allow your phone to run down its charge so you could be at others' mercy. Bad decision after bad decision.
But then I finally gave up on this when the protag's twin sisters show up at her apartment and she freaks out. The sisters apparently have always targeted her - they share same father - and so now apparently she has to fear those two adult women.
Was Rachel new in every sense of the word? I read this novel with my common sense in tact. I was disgusted as to how gullible Rachel was. I read with a sense of disbelief. Friendship with the Madden's was way too much too soon. All the red flags were waving throughout the novel. Loved the recap at the end. The twins what a surprise.
A true gem for those that enjoy the little twists and turns that come with a mystery thriller. A few parts were kind of dead on that I guessed too easily, but Nora makes up for it with the added charm!
