Unsettled
Lizzie O'Malley, a twenty three year old free spirited young woman, is on the run to find her purpose in life. Really enjoyed this book
Lizzie has decided to return to her home town after some deliberating, even though she remained on friendly terms with her ex. On a night out with her bro's girlfriend she gets chatting to a friendly Irish guy and his group of mates whom take a shine to her and after a game of darts and a few Guinness her friend shows up desperate to get home. As the DD she can't drive so hell breaks loose.
Teagan and Lizzie hit it off and though he's only there for a few months they agree to a summer fling. All good in theory but emotions have a way of taking over. They party like it's 1999 but it's actually 2000 in the storyline (I was surprised no one ended up with blood poisoning from the amount of booze knocked back!!!)
Without giving the plot away Teagan and Lizzie's have a great relationship till the shit hits the fan after not one but two epic gut wrenching events.
Lizzie had made a bad choice in her teens and I think that had a knock on effect because even when blame didn't lay at her feet she always felt responsible for it.
Think there are three books in total to this story and I'm half ways already into the next one "Unchosen"

Lets talk a little bit about this book.
Summery - Its told as a first person book. Of a 22 year old looking for herself, finding a gorgeous group of Irishmen and one in particular sweeps her off of her feet.
Lizzie O'Mally is your typical young woman, once burned by love; and falls in love with Teagan. It's your classic boy meets girl kind of thing.
Genre - New Adult
Rating - I'd force my child to read this if she were old enough. (She's 8)
Sexual Content - It is not graphic in any sense, and that's perfect for this kind of story. The Author treats you like you are an adult and doesn't need to get down and dirty with graphic details.
Language - The language is very liberal in its use. No joke, could put a dirty sailor to shame and that's why its so funny and enjoyable.
I've heard they say that swearing is a good stress reliever. Alright give it a go! Swear as much as you'd like now and get it out of your system. I'll wait.
So let's delve into it. Seriously, I felt like I was reading/living through someones else's memories; and I have a quite a lot of the bitter sweet kind from the Marines. In fact I think that's why I related so much to the story that Alisa has written.
You can go up and down in life, and but in the end. Its choices; and Lizzie has had to make some hard choices in this book, The kind no one should have to make; but she makes the right choice that is for her.
As for Teagan he's emotionally stable and they both entered into the relationship knowing what they wanted from each other; but he hurt her; and what grates on my nerves is he really doesn't do anything to apologize. Sort of just accepts it and tries to deal with what happens as an adult, with which I can relate. Which is more than I what I can say about some men I have met or have heard about.
When I got near the end of this book. I was wrecked emotionally. I really was. Short of snotting all over myself with tears and wanting to give Teagan a quick but hard swift kick to his baby maker.
This book has some core values, some really hard lessons in life. In the end its all about family and choices. I could wax on and on about my own personal memories and drama, but no one wants to hear that. That's how hard this book hit me. Like a brick to the side of the head while getting sucker punched in my lady bits.
I throughly enjoyed this book, as in I absolutly loved it! and I can't wait for the next one!

This is one of those books that takes you back when you were young and in love. After finishing this book I couldn't help but to think of when I was younger and found that one moment in my life that changed it forever. I think this book is about Lizzie's life changing moment.
Lizzie O'Mally is a carefree 23 year old who has just moved back to her hometown to try and figure out her purpose in life. One night out changes everything. She meets Teagan Gallagher and knew there was something special about him, he sparked feelings deep inside of Lizzie that she forgot had existed.
Teagan is a college student from Ireland. He is only in America for the summer and wants Lizzie to be his for the time he is in America. Deep down Lizzie knows she shouldn't accept this but goes along for the ride anyway, she figures a memory of a great summer is worth it.
Lizzie and Teagan's relationship is spent mainly partying and getting to know each other very well physically. As the summer is coming to a end their feelings for each other are stronger than what they anticipated. When secrets are revealed and a life changing event takes place it will change Lizzie's life forever.
I really enjoyed this book. It is not often that I can relate to a character as much as I could with Lizzie. She had to go through so many obstacles and I felt every single emotion she was feeling. It's a story about young love, consequences,and dealing with life. Teagan was HOT and who doesn't love a man with an accent. I really liked him through the majority of the book, but at the end I didn't like him as much. There were plenty of situations through the book that were so unpredictable. I was guessing what was going to take place next,and I was wrong most of the time, which kept it interesting. I would definitely recommend this book and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

I liked the plot line of girl meets guy for summer romance. Since the guy is only in the country for the summer, they both agree to have a summer fling and leave it at that. Only, we all know that a fling is rarely ever just a fling.
However I struggled a lot while reading this book.
First, I did not like any of the characters, nor did I really care what happened to them one way or the other. Most of the characters spend a good portion of the book either drunk or hungover. A lot of Lizzie's thoughts and actions come across as "I was drunk, oh well". I get that there were Irish characters in the book, but it seems borderline insulting. Lizzie also had a lot of what I would think of as immature reactions throughout the novel such as "maybe this guy likes me", "maybe I like a different guy, nope this one looked at me, he's the one". Had the author not stated that Lizzie was 23 (and she had not been in bars most of the book), I would have guessed she was around sixteen with all the drama and wishy washy decisions (and the fact she gets an allowance).
Also the writing style seemed very disjointed. It almost borderlines in the "train of thought" style of writing. At some points it appears that there are actually words missing from the sentences. I felt that the author crams in a lot of details to try to bring others into the story, but I did not feel they really fit into place.
I had high hopes based on the summary and the high ratings, but it just didn't live up to it.

Unsettled by Alisa Mullen is the first book in The Chosen Series and a great start to the series.
Lizzie O'Malley is felt in the world, unsure about her place in life. She had recently broken up with her long term boyfriend, whom she had followed around the country to be with and was now moving back home to find herself and start life anew in the place she once called home.
Upon arriving she meets a sweet talking Irish boy who is only here for the summer and offers her a lighthearted summer love with no attachments since he would be leaving in a few months.
Things between the couple is intense from the very beginning and though she tries to keep her feelings completely on the surface, she begins to fall for the Irish man all the while knowing that soon she would have to give him up.
Teagen, the Irish boy, is seemingly perfect and you easily fall in love with him as you read the story but soon things take a shift. Lizzie's world is turned upside down in an instant and Teagen... well... all I can say is be prepared for the emotional roller-coaster this book will lead you through. You may cry, may yell, may even throw your Kindle across the room.
Over all the story was gripping and kept you wanting more. I really enjoyed the story and I am looking forward to reading more from this author. I give the book 4 stars out of 5 only because of some minor editing but overall this is was a great read.

I really wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with it. I think my high expectations were due in part to the high ratings, the reviews, and the synopsis.
I thought this would be one of those books that would have some type of lasting affect on me, because I could somewhat relate to Lizzie. She and I share that restless feeling when it comes to life. We also tend to run away from our problems. However, that's where our commonalities end. There were many times where I found her reactions to certain things a bit...over-the-top. And dare I say, immature.
Also, I felt quite detached from the characters—and the story in general. I found myself skimming a lot of the last few chapters because I was just so over the drama. It saddens me that I couldn't get into this. So many others seemed to enjoy it a lot.

This was a book I won through the First Reads Giveaways, and I could not be more thankful.
I have never read a book I found so frustrating in the first two chapters, only to be absolutely in love with it by the end.
In the beginning I found myself frustrated with the main character. Her concern with her brother's drunk obnoxious gf. Her vain idea that every man she ran into wanted her. And the at times odd profanity combinations.
But then you meet Teagan. And from there I began to fall in love with this story. The character development draws you in and holds on tight. The unpredictable plot twits have you dying to find out what will happen. I became so emotionally attached to Lizzie by the end that I was actually brought to tears a couple times, which is rare for me.
This book starts out a little shaky, but grew into a fantastic novel. I am so happy I had the chance to read it. And am more than excited to read the next part of Lizzie's journey.

I really enjoyed reading this book! It was really easy to read, flowed well and I couldn't put out down. I was hooked on the main character, Lizzie O'Malley, as she struggles to find herself. I loved the unexpected twists and surprises in the story and the ending was a cliffhanger! I can't wait to read the second book in The Chosen Series, Unchosen!

What Do I Think?: At first, I thought "Hey this is a romance book, straight up love." Then I realize this had sex scenes in it (not a lot but, I usually don't read books like that) Also, There was a lot of F-Bombs in this book. I'm used to cursing but not when it had God Dam*** (God wasn't capitalized by the way besides once or twice) That's why I gave it a 3.5. I thought about just giving it a three but, the rest of the book I really enjoyed. I kept asking myself questions like "What is she going to do next?" and "Is she going to keep it?" and "Omgoodness why is she in love with him and why is he treating her like they are actually dating?" Then, my questions kept getting answered. I also loved how the author left us at a cliff-hanger. The detail was really good too. I could picture the characters in my mind while I was reading. Hopefully the second book will have less cursing.

Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the author on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.
My Thoughts: Having no direction in life, confusion over what to do with yourself and no one understanding it is something that quite a few people can relate to. It’s not exactly something you want to admit being able to understand though. So the fact that the author tackles this subject in Unsettled made me want to read it.
Frankly a lot of this book was completely foreign to me. I couldn’t relate to the partying or that entire lifestyle, but I still found myself intrigued by Unsettled. I was so sucked in by both the story line and the writing. Neither blew my mind, but something about them just made me anxious to continue reading.
The little nuances between characters kept me guessing and the chemistry was intense. I didn’t really like the full idea behind the interaction between Lizzy and Teagan, but I understood the point of it. The characters were flawed, which I love. Going through a self-discovery period is hard and I think the author did a great job of portraying exactly that with Lizzy’s character.
I did not like the direction the story went or how things were resolved, but that is wholly a personal opinion. I genuinely didn’t understand the character thought processes for some of the decisions throughout Unsettled and even came to hate Teagan’s character altogether. I cannot and will not divulge why because I would be guilty of including spoilers. Suffice it to say that any dislike of the characters or book came from a purely personal point of view.
There were some editing errors, but overall they could be easily overlooked. There were some semi-explicit scenes, so I would say ages 16+. Overall it was an enjoyable book and I like it. However, if you have a very firm religious stance or issues reading about skewed morality, then this book is definitely not something you would enjoy. I would recommend Unsettled, especially if you like reading about an unconventional relationship.

First off... SO NOT FAIR! HOW DARE YOU! YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.
Okay, jeeze, I am not even sure where to start. I am pissed, pretty much pacing while I am typing this. Feet twitching, and I HATE twitching.

You wont know if you want to cry, laugh, or throw your damn book(or Nook in my case) across the room.(and then run to it and tell it you're so sorry, and hope it forgives me just to let me finish reading)

Of course, the night hours became party time for her so she went bar hopping with a friend and met the Irishman Teagan Gallagher. He was living in America for the summer. After a chaotic evening he wanted to see Lizzie again and this is where the story begins...

4. Lizzie's carefree ways came back to bite her in the butt for not being more responsible.
5. Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can't see.
At first I thought this was the typical crazy girl who doesn't know she is pretty finding herself romanced by a hot guy type of book and it is; but its so much more. I loved that Lizzie was tough and lived her life according to how she wanted to live it and changed the things she saw needed changing. The ending is nice and I'm hoping the second book comes out soon.

Lizzie is a very free spirit I guess you could call her, I would call her a little crazy at times but she is a character that's for sure. She just moved back to Boston to try and start her life in a way she is not ashamed of.
Teagan is from Ireland and in the states for the summer. When Lizzie and Teagan meet it was a crazy night, with drama and tragedy galore. Even with everything that happens they cant help wanting to be together.
They know it can only happen for the summer seeing how Teagan has to go home but they want to spend all the time together they can. To me everything seemed perfect, yes they were starting to have real feelings and all I wanted was for them to have a happily ever after or even if it couldn't be happy just to have it work out.
Well when Teagan has a visitor from home come it seems like it was the beginning of the crazy train! It is also where it started to piss me off! Have you ever been reading and been so angry at a character that you want to just straight up throw your book across the room? Well that was so me. I wont go into detail because I don't want to spoil anything but UUUGGGGHHHH! Piss me off! I am already waiting for the next book so I can see what is to come and how it all plays out.

Funny, I'm reading a summer romance book just as we are getting the last snow storm of the winter, just days before spring. Don't let that stop you from diving into this summer romance novel. I was sucked in from the very beginning, this new adult book is an easy read.
Without giving anything away, I'm not sure how I feel about Teagan. Sure, he's hot and sexy and Irish, but the writing was on the wall for Lizzy, the sometimes reckless and sometimes naive protagonist, who often follows her heart and less likely her head. The narrative is all first person, so we are inside of Lizzie's mind for the entire book. We don't quite know what is going on in his pretty little head the entire book, but of course, he holds much of it back.
I also feel kind of like a moron, as the ending left me going huh? I actually had to go back and re-read parts so I could understand what happened. I think that was Alisa Mullen's intention and it really made me want to read the sequel, which I will definitely read when it's released.

At 23 Lizzie is back home after her relationship of 5 years ends. When she meets sexy Irishman Teagan the attraction is instant but he has to go back home at the end of the summer, they decide on a summer fling and enjoy their sizzling chemestry. They know so little about each other's outside lives but Lizzie finds herdelf falling for him anyways. With a departure date looming and surprising secrets revealed will the two have more than a summer fling?
It took a bit to get into the story emotionally Lizzie is flighty and unsure what to do with her life, she enjoys drinking and makes no appoligies for being herself. I loved how she was able to find hppiness in any situation and just go with the flow. The Irish brood she befriends are great I enjoyed the banter between them and how they added to the story. Teagan is fun and carefree and seemed so open with himself but as we got on in the story I could tell that there was more to him than meets the eye.
As I read the story and it got more and more depth it became like I was right there with Lizzie feeling her emotions it added so much to the story. Excited to read the next book and see how things turn out.

This book, it's just.. I dunno what to say. It depicts the truth of human nature. There is nothing called as white & black, life is all about gray area's. humans not always do the right thing, they just learn from all the past mistakes, if ever they learn.
This book is about a summer romance between Lizzie and Teag. They both know, this would break their heart, yet they fall for each other. The story has good friends, partying, drinking, fun, loving brother, supporting parents. But, the best thing I loved about the book was, it was not your regular dreamy love, it was a clear and difficult truth of life love.
This books connects to your core, it reaches the dept of your heart.
There are times when it's slow and repetitive, but the entire journey that it takes you with is worth the read.
The story is continued in a next book and I am hoping for a real and literal look at the world that is the specialty of this author. It would be a fresh and amazing perspective, if the author continues to write based on what happens in real life rather than what happens in those romantic novels.
Looking forward for the next book.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
First, I'd like to commend the author on picking a fantastic title for this book, because the content was, well, unsettling. But in the best of ways. So many books I've recently read involve less-than-flawed characters who've had bad things happen to them, which is the cause of whatever problems occur in the story/relationship. While these can become interesting stories if the idea is original enough, I really enjoyed Alisa Mullen's more realistic take on her characters. They were flawed. The relationship was flawed. And that's what made me like them and the story they told.
I gave the book less than 4/5 stars because I felt there were some parts in the book that were lagging and there was too much fluff detail. I also would have liked more interaction with the other characters, who at first seemed to play an important role, but kind of fell by the wayside as the story progressed. Hopefully we'll get to see more of them in the next book!
Overall, I thought the author did a great job writing this book, and I look forward to reading about my flawed-but-real characters soon!

I had no idea what to expect when I started this book. But I was hooked from the very beginning. What an emotional read. This book had me in tears at times. Lizzie feels like she fails at everything so she compensates by drinking a lot. I wish that her friends would have stepped in here but it seems that everyone around her enabled her. I didn't like Teagan in the beginning. There was something about him that just didn't feel right. But Lizzie fell hard and then I began to fall in love with him as well. I can't say the ending was a total surprise but my hunch was right about Teagan.
Alisa Mullen has a true talent for writing. I was all over the place with my emotions. I loved this book so much that I'm thankful that I can dive right in to the next book. There will be 3 books total in this series and I can't wait to see what happens next.

I absolutely loved this book. From the drama rich story to those super sexy scenes I was hooked! Although I think at times Lizzie was a little immature, a little whiney and bitchy for my liking.
But I throughly enjoy the way the rest of the book was written and was really impressed by the way Teagen was written. Alisa Mullen could have gone down quite a dark, depressing and simply unrealistic path (50 Shades of Grey anyone??) but she really wrote his character that was easy to picture and seemed as if he could have been real! It makes you believe that situations like that can really happen (which they probably do!).
Now my next problem...waiting for Book #2 to be released!!!

This is a story about the chances we all take and the love we think we want. It is not a fairy tale story but one of real life situations and the real way people deal with them. The main characters are very tangible and you feel as though you have known Lizzie forever. Lizzie is the girl you knew growing up or the girl you were yourself. She has decided that she does want more from life then to rebel and comes back home to Boston to sort it all out. There she meets Teagan. This story deals with current issues faced by people everyday. How the characters deal with these issues is what makes this story even better. I truly enjoyed the writing style of Alisa Mullen and encourage you to read this book. It is part of a series and this is book one. I cannot wait for the next one in this series.

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect with this book; I'd been reading a lot of YA and was pleased to see this doesn't fit that genre. It's a fun, easy read, but with characters closer in age to myself and I felt I could relate to a lot of the references. The book starts a little slowly, almost as though the author was trying to cram a few too many details into a short amount of time, but the second half of the book really picks up and I couldn't put it down! Read the whole thing in about a day, imagining those sexy Irish brogues the whole way through. Can't wait to see how the story continues in the next one!

First off I could not put this book down until I finished it. This book was well written, you could feel all the emotion all the characters were feeling. I loved and hated Teagan, and his Irish self. Lizzie is a carefree person, who does what she wants. I loved the chemistry they have and the way they are together. My emotions were all over with this book. I was guess on what was going to happen next, this book is a must read! I will recommend this book to any and everyone!
I must say for Alisa debut book it was a great one. Cant wait for Unchosen to come out. With that I have to give this book 5 out of 5 starts. Keep up the great work!

a great story of a young woman trying to make sense of relationship with herself and a 'summer' lover. what makes this novel so readable are the detailed descriptions, some sad, poignant, and some so humorous one gets to stop and giggle in the midst of the story.
Mullen offers much insight as to the struggles of young women in complicated places of heart and intention.
Looking forward to reading more of her writings. Keep us giggling in spite of the sorrow.....

As a guy, I don't normally find any interest in the "chick-lit" genre, but I found myself drawn into this story. Even though its written from the female perspective, I think that most men will also be able to relate to the story. A fantastic read, and I can't wait to read the next installment in the Chosen series!

Wow this book is just amazing at how it draws you in and takes you through such a journey and leaves you exhausted at the end..... but a great exhaustion. Just wonderful to be able to be pulled in and feel so much for people in a book, but I feel like I was there. This is a definite MUST read book!!! Can't wait for the next book!!

A beautiful emotionally written story, hooked me from the start.. I became Lizzie a collage student who drinks to much and runs when things get tuff. It's an emotional ride of highs and lows, love and loss and choices only she can make. I swooned, cried,laughed and wanted too run right along with her!
