Four full-length novels of Medieval Scotland:

BOOK ONE: "The Kindling Heart"
(Scotland, 1478) - Ruan MacLeod was through with women. They were nothing but trouble.
Leaving the rash life of his youth behind, he returned to Skye, seeking peace. He never meant to split the clan or start a war with the MacDonald of Duntulm. He certainly never foresaw an arranged marriage to the most scandalous woman in Scotland. Even though she was twice his age, the size of a horse and mother to more than one illegitimate child, he agreed to secure his sister's freedom.

However, even that plan goes drastically awry. On his wedding day, he finds himself faced instead with an enticing, green-eyed lass named Bree. A walking disaster, his bride immediately turns his world into chaos and threatens to melt his resolve never to love again.

BOOK TWO:  The Award-Winning Novel: "The Bedeviled Heart" - ROMANCE SILVER MEDAL WINNER of the Independent Publisher Book Awards!
(Scotland, 1479) Cameron Malcolm Stewart, Earl of Lennox, had made his peace with destiny. It was not his fate to love as other men.

Each of his politically arranged marriages had ended in disaster. And though he had never touched a one of his wives, he had come to believe that sharing his name would consign a woman to an early grave.

So, on the sunny spring day Cameron encounters a delightfully devious, bright-eyed lass selling charmed stones in one of Stirling's alehouses, he tosses her a shilling, thinking only to steal a kiss. But it is a kiss that will change his life forever.

BOOK THREE: "The Daring Heart"
(Scotland, 1482) - To the scandalous Lord Julian Gray, marriage is a malady and nothing more.
How can a man even court a lass longer than a fortnight when there are so many pouting lips to kiss? Roaming the courts of Europe, Julian appears to spend his time drinking wine, wagering gold, and dandling willing lasses upon his knee. But no one knows the man behind the mask. No one knows that he is Le Marin--Europe's most daring and brazen spy.

But everything changes the night he finds a dagger pressed against his ribs and an alluring hazel-eyed minx in his bed.

BOOK FOUR: "The Bold Heart"
(Scotland, 1488) - Ewan was a battle-weary warrior with haunted dreams. He no longer believed in love.

As Scotland's greatest warrior and heir to the earldom of Mull, few dared to cross swords with Ewan MacLean. But the price he paid for his fearsome reputation was a heavy one. To survive, he buried his emotions and became only the warrior, riding from battle to battle with his men to protect Scotland from threats within and without her borders and letting himself feel nothing else.

But when his right-hand man, Alec Montgomery, is caught dallying with a powerful Lord's daughter, a trap is set. And both Ewan and Alec find themselves in an English prison, their necks headed for the noose.

On the Isle of Skye, the raven-haired Merry MacLeod spends her days caring for the clan elderly and hurtling across the moors on the back of her black stallion. A high-spirited, adventurous lass, she is no longer troubled by childhood memories of the day the braw lad, Ewan MacLean, rescued her from her husband, the cruel MacDonald. But when she hears the very same Ewan is now confined in an English prison, she disguises herself as a lad and sets out to repay her debt.

Too boring with too much drama. As I painstakingly tried to read the first story, all the heroine did over and over was screech in fear, run away, fall into things (tubs, ditches, shorelines, et al) and didnt say a word as if she was touched, bless her heart. Why would you write a story about a simple minded woman. And if it got better as it went, I read enough (8 boring chapters) to determine this author sucks. And I will never read another book by her again. If you want good Scottish medieval romances, stick to Lyndsay Sands.

The Kindling Heart (#1) [Read 14 Sep to 08 Oct]
Bree has had a hard life. Her step-father mistreats her terribly while her mother does nothing. Just before she is wed (really traded away) to a miserable wretch, she gets away, only to find herself wed to Ruan. Ruan is the center of a clan rivalry and he doesn't really want a wife. After many attempts at running, Bree finally resigns herself to being Ruan's wife. He treats her well, desiring to get annulment before too long. However, that is not to be. Slowly, feelings develop, perils increase, and danger is at every turn. Where will they go for peace? Will they allow themselves to love?

While it is understandable that Bree would be frightened of Ruan - men had only treated her terribly - it was hard to understand her many attempts to flee and physical attacks on Ruan. Especially as she was afraid every time that she would be beaten. Anyway, she learned to trust and love. Enjoy.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars. This collection was fun to read and see the authors change in writing style. Though I was disappointed in the 3rd Novel, the series overall was great. Book 3 was good, I just wanted more from the hero than was portrayed. But book 4 picked back up with a fabulous story. It was entertaining, heart-wrenching and charming all in one. One of my favorite parts of the series was how they were interwoven with each other. The characters were familiar from book to book, not overly so to where you felt like you were reading about the same hero/heroine each time, but enough for them to feel like people you knew and you got to check in on throughout the series. They were not steamy but the stolen kisses and sweet flirting glances made the love stories work and make you feel for the characters during their tormoil. I felt slightly bereft when I finished book 4 as for over! All in all a must read of collections!

The 4 book collection

The collection of Scottish hearts novels was a definite must read for the reader who enjoys the Scottish highlander books. Brought with adventures romance mystery and action they keep your attention from page one of the first book through the last word of the financial book when wee little merry is no longer a little lass butt a full grown woman repaying a life debt she feels is justly due. The way the author writes let's your mind enter the imaginary world of the Scottish highlander and live vicariously through the characters. I recommend the series to everyone who enjoys romance, adventure and Scottish highlander books

One of my absolute favorite series!

I first read this a year ago and fell in love with the Isle of Skye and all its characters! Since it was on my old kindle and I have since gotten a Fire I was trying to remember if I had read this series all the way through and joyfully re-read the entire series because I couldn't put it down, again! Which is highly unusual for me! Carmen is undeniably one of the most talented historical Scottish Highland romance writers of our times! Thank you Carmen! Please, please write more!!!

Lovely series

I absolutely highly recommend this historical romance series...it is exceptional. The writing is fluid and jettisons you into the time period of warring clans and kings. The four books are wonderfully executed and I learned a great deal while enjoying the plots. The characters are human and imperfect. The stories kept me riveted to the pages. .. finishing this series in four days. Cannot say enough about the talent of thus author.

Amazing tales.

Amazing novels that go hand in hand. I loved them all. I'm excited to read the heather house with. It's not out yet but can't wait to read about Alec. The author is a very gifted and amazing story teller. The descriptions of battle were well done. The only fault is the love scenes were seemingly skipped over and barely approached.

Enjoyable series

The stories are delightful and fun to read. The endings are sweet but predictable, somewhat akin to fairy tale endings.

All four books were great.

Loved the story connection between all the books and the historical references. Once the first book was finished, started the next one immediately.
