Finding Mr. Righteous

Rate this book
Lisa was a public relations director and event planner in D.C. A Christian-in-name-only, Lisa dated freely in spite of her insecurities. An Atheist. A Catholic. A Quaker. A Preacher. A Jew. Some gave her the answers she yearned for, while others left her with more questions. As Lisa’s star rose in the political movement, her quest to find her Mr. Righteous led her down a path of religious confusion and discovery. Lisa navigates her journey with humor and humility. Will she find her soul mate or save her soul? Is it too much to ask for both?

I really enjoyed this book. I could relate to a lot of the ups and downs described in the book as it can be so hard to figure out if your life will fit well with someone else's, will the chemistry appear or do you need it from the start, and how to get past the losers that somehow captured our attention for way too long. Ms. De Pasquale has a clean writing style. I did feel at times she was holding back and could have really torn some of these losers apart. They were observably jackholes but she remained mostly reserved and gave them the benefit of the doubt? Or perhaps because this is memoir instead of fiction she couldn't say exactly what she wanted to. I wanted to hear the writer as pissed at these losers as I was lol. But I enjoyed the book, especially with the spiritual angle knowing that shared faith can be so important. Her journey for faith was as compelling (maybe more?) to me as her journey for love.

Her recent book SJW Handbook is one of my favorites and I'm looking forward to her next book I Wish I Might. I've already pre-ordered.

Finding Mr. Righteous is a new book by Lisa de Pasquale and not exactly what you would expect a rocker and gamer like me to be reviewing. However, I would have missed out on a cracking read if I were to sneer at this as Chick Lit with Christian overtones. It would be daft of me to avoid it just because Ann Coulter likes it.

You seem the author has managed to read a cracking pacey book that never gets bogged down in po-faced anal retentiveness. It is a truly moving and touching journey of self-discovery and finding out what to get out of life. It hinges around the eternal search for a mate, a quest that most of us humans go through at some time in life, whether we admit it or not. The desire of Ms. de Pasquale to jibe it all with her faith gives it an extra frisson.

Her potentials never come across as one dimensional props to move the pace along, but real men with all their faults. We all know the types involved and feel for her to have been mixed up with at least a few of them. But obviously she learns from each liaison no matter how badly it ends.

Of course, the fact that the lady in question is also an ace conference organizer makes it all the more interesting. Her fast-paced complicated pratfall filled life made it all the harder to reconcile her quest. The fact it was under the back-drop of at least one conservative organization’s obtuse cack-handed attempt to get to grip with the realities of the right in the US makes it amusing.

Boycotts and spats abound between organizations as the group in question tries to adapt to the realities that the right (or rather non-left) isn’t what it used to be even a decade ago. The fact our author didn’t go completely nuts before they had their cull a few years ago is a testament to the character of Ms. de Pasquale.

This is not heavy reading at all, but an entertaining read that would work nicely on a plane across the country to a gathering of some sort.

This is Bridget Jones Diary for the 21st century and a book that Hollywood should snap up forthwith.

I received a copy of Finding Mr. Righteous by Lisa De Pasquale in exchange for an honest review.

This book is based on a true story where Lisa De Pasquale who is an event planner and a public relations director, is trying to find true love in D.C.  The dating scene D.C. led Lisa through a number of dates where she is trying to find the "one" for her, someone who is both a soul-mate and be righteous.  The book takes us through some dates where one with lesser courage would give up on trying to find true love and where Lisa would push on in her quest. Totally a different perspective where I would surely fail.  This book would be relatable to anyone who has ever gone on their quest to find true love.

Love the short chapters, & easy to follow stories

It was a very easy read. First book I’ve read cover to cover in half a decade. Glad I stumbled upon this one! Sad that it has ended... I want more!

I really loved Lisa transparency and honesty as she discovered herself and god. Lots of fun behind the scenes stuff as well as the former director of CPAC

I discovered Finding Mr. Righteous through the conservative web site PJ Media. Initially I submitted a request to Fairfax County Public Library to carry it, but there was no follow-up: strange, because I had thought that FPCL would support a local writer (Ms. De Pasquale lives in Northern Virginia). I had to wait the mandatory 6-12 months after publication to submit a request through Interlibrary Loan.

Finding Mr. Righteous is about Ms. De Pasquale’s search for God in the context of the men in her life: Chris the Atheist, Joe the Catholic, John the Evangelical, etc. I looked forward to reading this book, as I thought there would be a spiritual component to the book, but most of the book is about Ms. De Pasquale’s attachments to men who have other women in their lives and won’t commit to her. I wonder why Ms. De Pasquale didn’t go in therapy to try to break this pattern. The spiritual component comes at the end of the book where she has an epiphany about her relationships and her role in them. I won't give away the ending.

This book dredged up my unhappy experiences with men and my feeling insecure and that no one would love me. If Ms. De Pasquale ever revises her book, I could contribute a chapter on Ali the Muslim.

Altogether, Finding Mr. Righteous is a quick read. As I said, the spiritual component comes at the end of the book, and I’m glad that I read it to the end.
