The testimony of Jesus' contemporaries, including Herod, Pontius Pilate, and Joseph and Mary, holds a timeless fascination for anyone interested in New Testament literature. Ongoing debate over his classic work's authenticity makes it an engrossing read for those interested in judging for themselves.
This is non-fiction. The author discovered ancient records in the Vatican in the 1800's and had them translated when he discovered what they were: Formal letters, records and inquiries into Christ by the Roman and Jewish leaders, trying to see if he was just crazy or a real threat. Each interview is tainted by the person's views, but an amazing peak into what the people thought and did, when Jesus began teaching and proclaimed himself the Messiah. If you are able to find this book, understand that the first third is the author's description of how he came to find and translate the records. It gets a bit boring, but the rest is definitely worth the effort.
This book should be required reading for all christians. Whether you believe or not the behind the scenes story on how this book came to be, it is fascinating and well written. It will make you think and some of you may consider the possibility that it is new knowledge.
I’ve been reading this book as the same days I watched Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of The Christ” and found many similarities between both while I think the tortures scenes comes from "The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ" by Anne Catherine Emmerich . Even that I’m not a scholar in Christendom I assume I can not question the facts on this book, despite that its sources are questionable. Literally I checked information about it on google to find that it's a late nineteenth century hoax. You even might experience paranormal activity after reading it.
This was an interesting book, at the very least. Purportedly, in the 1800 a man sought information from a contact in the Vatican Archives. These individual chapters are, supposedly, from the archives of the Catholic Church on these specific topics that are born within the covers of this book. I, my personal opinion, place little weight on these being true to form for personal and specific reasons. That being said, it was an interesting book, true or not.
This book was very interesting. It provides translation of some secular and Jewish writings (scrolls) and accounts of Jesus found in the Vatican. The transcriptions took place in the later 1800s. Documents transcribed are the writings of Pilate, Herod Antepas and Herod Antepater, Caiaphas, Hillel, and Gamaliel.
Oh if only this book were true! However, a good researcher can easily determine this book is a fraud and its author was exposed as such. I don’t believe it is still in print because of the lawsuits and false claims made therein.
Incredible book of the records and letters of famous and important past people specifically in connection with the New Testament Gospel narrative. This book also gives great insight into the man Jesus Christ; who he was and what his youth was like.
