In this practical handbook, Scandinavian expert Lotta Kuhlhorn explains the ins and outs of how to design patterns —for everything from wallpaper to tea services. The included CD features templates for experimentation by beginners and professionals alike.
Beautiful examples and great insight on a surface patterns methods of finding pattern everywhere. I found Lotta’s method of being inspired, making motifs, then digitizing—the same as the method I’m currently learning in my Surface Design course.
More of a personal story than the book of patterns, but still pretty inspiring stuff, showing an individual pathway of a particular artist-small business owner.
A refreshing book. The author simply teaches the art of pattern recognition in everyday life and our surroundings by taking inspiration from her own upbringing and the way she notices patterns. She shares insights into her pattern-making process and gives practical advice on how we can create our own patterns from wallpapers to furnitures. However, I read this book expecting to learn more about different patterns and perhaps more pattern-making techniques and systems but was left with a glimpse of it.
