Infliction Point is the cinematic first book in the Zach Axton thriller series. If you like flawed characters with heart, fast-paced action, and unputdownable drama, then you’ll devour Mark Hacker’s riveting adventure.
Imagine a mind so dark, it's almost invisible. A killer so brutal, he's beyond redemption. In Infliction Point by Mark Hacker, a killer is transformed into an advanced killer after a revolutionary procedure leading to a dangerous manhunt. FBI agent Zach Axton's fiancee was brutally murdered by Charlie Moore. He was finally caught, but due to his low IQ, the justice Kayla deserved wasn't served. Taking matters into his own hands, Kayla's father, Senator Bradley Reynolds, hatched a plan to boost his IQ with the aid of PortNeuro. Unfortunately, the procedure was more than successful, unleashing an advanced killer. Zach Axton teamed up with Leon and a dangerous manhunt began.
This is an intriguing thriller that will leave readers asking for more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I was captivated by the story that unfolded before me. Despite the book's length, I read every page, eager to discover what would happen next. The book was effortlessly engaging. Action, suspense, and intrigue were balanced with intriguing themes and characters. Hacker raised important questions about intelligence, science, and the consequences of playing God, and these added layers to an already superb story. While the book's length may have been intimidating at first, I can confidently say that it was well worth the investment of my time. One aspect I loved was Hacker's writing. It was vivid, even when it ventured into the darkest and most graphic territories. The writing was descriptive, painting a vivid picture of the scene.
Hacker did not shy away from the depiction of violence, sparing no details in the description of Moore's brutal crimes. Yet, it is this willingness to confront the darkest aspects of human nature that makes the book so compelling. It underscores the horror and depravity of Moore's actions, making the reader feel the full weight of the atrocities. Hacker outdid himself with this book, demonstrating a level of dedication that is rare in modern writing. From the plot to the characters, it was clear a great deal of time and effort was invested into this book. It was clear that Hacker has a deep understanding of the subject, drawing on a wealth of research that effortlessly brought the story to life.
This is an amazing book that deserves 5 out of 5 stars. There was absolutely nothing to dislike. I found no error while reading, showing that the book was professionally edited. If you are a fan of thrillers or crime fiction, I highly recommend this book.
A hunter and a prey but who is who. He is a FBI and they are a killer. They will battle each other as they fight to get control over the other. How will the battle go? Who will come out on top? A brilliant action read I received an advance copy from hidden gems and I want to review
Infliction Point by Mark Hacker is a breathtaking novel of suspense that is based on an FBI agent Zach Axton and a terrible enemy of his Charlie Moore. The plot gets heavier when Charlie Moore goes through an experimental brain enhancement procedure, which in turn makes him become a great but brutal killer, setting up the tantalizing cat-and-mouse chase with Axton.
This book is fast-moving, and the action scenes immediately engage one in a suspenseful way. Axton's psychological turmoil was well described and shown and adds depth to his character as he juggles his emotional scars with his duty to catch Moore. Added to the mix is the team dynamic between Axton, his former partner Leon, and prosecutor Kelly that adds further layers of suspense and tension to the story.
While this book does have its share of repetitive scenes and some dragged writing in the book, the interesting storyline and the character development arc therein render it quite a read. The deep psychological insight of both the hero and his villain raises this thriller with an extra kick that keeps the readers involved in seeing the ultimate result. On the whole, Infliction Point is an absolutely thrilling and thought-provoking read. This is a really absorbing start for the readers of crime and psychological thrillers and potentially a great series.
I won this through a Goodreads giveaway. The story was good, and I enjoyed the characters. However, some of the scenes drug out and the language used was hard to follow. There was a ton of spelling and grammatical errors which was distracting.
“Infliction Point” features dual perspectives between the main protagonist, Zach Axton, and the antagonist, Charlie Moore. The characters were complex, intriguing, and well-developed, providing a thrilling read. However, there were instances where certain scenes felt drawn out or repetitive, lessening their overall impact.
The pace of the book started off slowly, but once all the essential information was presented to the reader, it noticeably accelerated around one-third into the novel. From then on, the pace became fast-paced and full of action. While it wasn’t flawless, the book provided an engaging and exciting experience that has serious potential for adaptation into a film.
While the book was engrossing and dynamic, there were instances where certain scenes or chapters felt excessively prolonged or redundant, leading them to seem forced. Particularly, there were times when the author excessively emphasized Charlie More’s fixation on eyeballs and his internal self-praised, resulting in multiple chapters dedicated to these themes. The repetitive nature of these elements diminished their effectiveness, suggesting they would have been better served with less frequent repetition.
The most challenging aspect of the book for me was the frequency of grammatical errors. It is important to note that the rating of the book was not impacted by this, as grammatical and spelling errors can be a source of frustration for all writers and can be challenging for writers to identify their own mistakes in the work they have created. I have encountered this issue in my own writings as well.
However, the absence of quotation marks at the beginning or ending of conversations made it difficult for me to follow, leading to the need to re-read conversations multiple times. There was also an instance where the author attributed dialogue to the wrong person, but I was able to infer the correct speaker based on context clues. The book would have greatly benefited from additional editing to catch these mistakes.
Overall, this novel was thrilling and mostly captivating. I particularly appreciated the intriguing cliffhanger in the epilogue, leaving me curious about the potential direction of the sequel. The book's premise was unique, sophisticated, and thought-provoking, presenting complex themes that were engaging for readers. While the execution was strong in certain aspects, there were other areas that could benefit from further refinement, such as reducing redundancies that make the book feel overly drawn out.
Thank you, NetGalley and Willis St. Bloom Books for my free copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
╵╏~Recommended if you like...~╏╵ 💓 Subtle romance 💥 Action-packed books 🗪 Dual perspectives 🧠 Inside the mind of the killer 🧬 Thought-provoking plots 🩹 Flawed protagonist 👥 Well-developed characters
This book was so bad…and lame…and angry-making. As if that wasn’t torture enough, it was also excruciatingly long. Ugh!!!
The story is built on the premise of taking an abused, mentally disabled adult and abusing him some more because, well, he deserves it, right?? I wasn’t happy with the use of terms like “retard” and “sissy” as if they are perfectly acceptable. For goodness sake, the writing was bad enough without those additional offenses! The writing was repetitive, elementary, cheesy, and excessively on-the-nose.
I will not read any other books that are part of this series. No. No. NOOOO.

"Infliction Point: A Zach Axton Thriller" by Mark Hacker is a book that hit me on so many levels. From the very first chapter, I found myself completely drawn into Zach Axton’s world—a world filled with pain, loss, and a sliver of hope. Zach, an FBI agent shattered by the brutal murder of the love of his life, feels like someone you know, or maybe even someone you’ve been at some point in life. His struggle with grief and his reluctant decision to dive back into a dangerous mission felt so raw and relatable. It reminded me of how life often us challenges when we’re least ready for them.
The story itself is thrilling, fast-paced, and packed with twist that keep you guessing. The concept of enhancing someone’s brain function to manipulate justice was both fascinating and chilling. It made me think about how far people can go when driven by revenge or desperation. But what stood out to me was the emotional depth of the characters. Zach’s pain, his sharp instincts, and even the moments of humor with his friend Leon gave the story so much heart. I especially loved how the assistant district attorney added strength and balance to the narrative—showing that even in the darkest times, teamwork and trust can make a difference.
This book connected with me deeply because of how it explored grief and healing. Zach’s journey of finding his way out of the darkness felt very real. There’s something powerful about seeing a character broken but still fighting to move forward. It made me reflect on my own life and how important it is to keep going, no matter how hard things get. Even though it’s a thriller filled with action and suspense, the story carries a strong emotional core that stays with you long after you finish reading.
I’d recommend Infliction Point to anyone who enjoys thrillers with real emotions at their center. It’s not just about the chase or the danger—it’s about redemption, resilience, and hope. The writing is simple yet powerful, and the story flows effortlessly. Whether you love action, suspense, or stories about second chances, this book is definitely worth picking up. I’m already looking forward to the next chapter in Zach Axton’s life.
"Infliction Point" by Mark Hacker is a thriller book that readers will have a hard time putting down. As a primary plot, there is a murder of Kayla Reynolds, which destroys the life of her fiancé, Zach Axton, as well as her father, Senator Bradley Reynolds. The fact that they don't know how she dies initiates a series of events that forces the characters to their breaking point.
We see Zach as a very motivated character by the grief and vengeance, while next to him, Senator Bradley shows readiness to do anything in order to have an avenger of his daughter's death. He uses the modern technique to make the murderer—Charlie Moore—even worse. The climax gave another dimension of suspense, which showed characters fighting against time to try to stop a murderer, which they have unfortunately made more formidable.
The characters are detailed out in a good way. Although Zach battles with his own troubles, he is still quite a relatable and likable character. On the other hand, Senator Bradley demonstrates all the potential of grief-caused reckless actions. It has moral lessons seen in making the killer, Charlie, become more of a figure of dread when his mental abilities are enhanced; the many questions it raises on science are effectively the heart of ethical concerns.
The plot of this book was well developed with a picturesque description full of unexpected surprises. I loved that the author was explicit with his writing. Hacker did not save the text from brutal scenes of Moore's crimes; the violence seems so real. At the same time, touches of humor mainly brought in by Zach's sarcastic comments and his faithful dog Koko help in giving break to the book's tension.
Mostly, "Infliction Point" is a story of loss, vengeance, and meddling with science. The descriptions are graphic, and the plot has sudden, unexpected twists and turns that take any thriller fan right through to the book's finish. The book's storyline can easily be enacted as a movie or even as an entire serial on TV. This is a high-tension book, and indeed, the twists are well-issued.
I received an ARC through "Booksirens" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The story begins with Axton getting drunk because of what happened to his girlfriend Kayla. He had recently broken up with Katla when she was killed by Charlie Moore. Charlie Moore was captured and brought to trial. Charlie was an individual with a low IQ and the presiding judge felt he was incapable of standing trial. Kayla was the daughter of Sen. Roberts who upon hearing started planning on what he had to do to ensure Charlie went to prison. He was later convinced by a doctor to have an experimental procedure done which would increase in brain ability to a point was he now became qualified to stand trial.
The procedure was performed and it look like Charlie was going to die before he got back to the psch ward. With the procedure, Charlie became a different person now ith a super mental capicity. He was able to escape on his way back and then he began his rampage of revenge.
With this event, Axton was now put in a position where he would have to stop feeling sorry for himself and take control of locating Charlie. A task force was formed with Axto leading for the FBI and Leon, a former partner as well as Kelly, Kayla's friend and the prosecutor responsible for Charlie's case. Charlie, with his super brain, began with major events that left little information where Charlie was and what would happen next.
It seems that Axton had a special sense which enabled him to get into the mind of killers and he now put this to use. With his ability, Axton was able to minimize the damage that Charlie inflicted. With each failure that Charlie endured, it now brought the two of them to a final meeting.
To learn what Charlie did that gained the attention of the world, what events Axton was able to limit damage with and how everything worked out in the end, then you need to read this book.
"Infliction Point" by Mark Hacker is a gripping thriller that follows the aftermath of tragedy and the lengths people will go to seek justice. At its core, the story revolves around Senator Bradley Reynold, whose world is shattered when his daughter, Kayla, is killed by the seemingly daft Charlie Moore. The story begins as Zach Axton, Kayla's ex-boyfriend, grapples with grief and guilt, while Detective Leon Perry, a close friend of Zach, tries to uncover the truth. The author weaves a complex web of intrigue and suspense, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with each turn of the page. As Bradley blames Zach for his daughter's death, tensions escalate, leading to a dangerous game of cat and mouse. The book takes a chilling turn when Moore is caught, but a controversial ruling deems him unfit to stand trial due to his perceived lack of intelligence. This decision ignites Bradley's thirst for revenge, leading him to strike a dangerous deal with a scientist at Port Neuro. However, the plan backfires disastrously, unleashing a terrifying transformation in Moore, turning him into a ruthless monster capable of unimaginable atrocities. The author balances suspense, action, and a hint of romance, creating a riveting story that keeps readers hooked until the very end. The characters are well-developed, each with their quirks and motivations, adding depth and authenticity to the story. Overall, "Infliction Point" is a thrilling rollercoaster ride that will leave readers breathless. With its captivating plot twists and dynamic characters, it's a must-read for fans of the genre. The relentless suspense and gripping storytelling more than makeup for it. I eagerly anticipate future works from Mark Hacker and eagerly await the sequel hinted at in the book's thrilling conclusion. I wholeheartedly give "Infliction Point" a solid five stars and highly recommend it to anyone seeking an adrenaline-fueled reading experience.
Following the court ruling that declared Charlie Moore unfit to stand trial for his crimes, pending re-evaluation, efforts were made to improve his cognitive abilities by a desperate father seeking justice for his daughter. Surprisingly, Charlie, whose IQ was previously too low to comprehend reality, showed remarkable improvement. His intelligence increased significantly, and he escaped from the authorities and is out to paint the world red for his entertainment, with Texas as his first target.
Mark Hacker's Infliction Point follows Zachary Axton as he races to stop an exceptionally intelligent killer. Having lost the love of his life, he spirals down the rabbit hole of depression, ridden with guilt for failing to keep her safe. With a dangerous killer on the loose, can Zach pick himself up in time to stop Charlie from causing mayhem in his town?
I loved the detailed narrative of the events. Hacker's description of events made it easy to visualize vividly. Also, the Russian characters' use of their native language added authenticity to their characterization. My favourite character is the loyal and brave border collie named Koko. She was usually around her owner, Zach, and was instrumental in his plan to prevent Charlie Moore's escape.
The language was simple and easy to understand. There was nothing to dislike. This book is professionally well-edited. Hacker's application of multi-perspective narration masterfully integrates diverse viewpoints, enhancing plot complexity and generating suspense and tension through contrasting perspectives. The author's masterful pacing and suspenseful plot capture the readers attention until the very end. The vivid description helps the readers see the events as though they were happening right in front of them.
I recommend this book to young adult and adult readers, especially fans of crime fiction and thrillers. This gripping, thought-provoking book will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
After successfully evading the police for a few weeks, Charlie Moore is caught; however, it looks like he may not stand trial for the crimes he committed, and what started as a simple case of bringing a murderer to justice spiraled out of control and triggered a series of unexpected events. With a ruthless killer on the loose intent on setting everyone ablaze, panic sets in. No one is safe. Where is he hiding, and where will he strike next?
Mark Hacker keeps us the reader enthralled as they read Infliction Point. We follow Zach Axton as he races to prevent a dangerous man from wreaking havoc on everyone and everything. Zach can't do it alone. Who can he run to for assistance? And can they track down the killer before he strikes again?
I loved the friendship between Zach and Leon. Theirs was a bond forged over time. Watching them have each other's backs and support each other through hard times was truly beautiful. I also loved how unpredictable the events of this book were. Once I started reading, I was hooked and couldn't wait to see what came next. Also, the title of the book was intriguing, and this prompted me to read it.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I noticed a few minor errors. The storyline is captivating and well-structured. This book is professionally well edited, and there was nothing to dislike. After a slow start, the pace quickly picked up, keeping me invested in the story. Mark Hacker has a keen eye for detail, and his narrative was excellent. He clearly put a lot of thought into planning, which resulted in a narrative that was both engaging and easy to follow.
I recommend this book to anyone above 15 years old who enjoys a good book, especially fans of crime fiction and thrillers. Its engaging storyline and brilliant plot make it a good read even for those who don't typically enjoy the genre.
Living in the same world with the same person who took the life of your child or lover happens to be one of the hardest things in life. Growing up, I was so interested in reading about crimes. But then I came across Infliction Point by Mark Hacker, and I was so engrossed in it due to the storyline, which has everything a crime thriller would have; it was a read that was out of this world.
This book starts with the character Zach Axton, a former FBI profiler who has gone into a life of solitude and has started drinking heavily. This lifestyle of Zach was caused by a traumatic event that happened in his life, which was the loss of his lover, Kayla. Detective Leon Perry, an old friend of Zach, has just stepped in. His visit increased the tension of Zach's loss as he just informed him that the hearing of Charlie Moore, the man responsible for the death of Kayla, was coming up. I am heavily anticipating the outcome of the hearing. Would justice be served? What is going to happen that day? Let’s dive right into the other chapters.
The author did a great job of describing crime scenes. It was just as though it were real; the narrative was so amazing. One of the biggest twists I came across in this book was the DNA match. I wouldn’t want to say much of what happened here, but then I read that aspect with my mouth wide open. Characters like Zach and Leon are well-developed and have a unique personality. I also loved how Zach and Leon communicated. The writing style of this book is straightforward, and the chapters are short and flow coherently.
This was an exciting twist filled with mixed emotions and lots of suspense, which kept me going. The investigative aspect of the book was fast; that was the only flaw. But then the book still deserves a five out of five-star rating for its positives. I will recommend this book to lovers of crime thrillers.
Infliction Point is a gripping thriller novel written by the author Mark Hacker, published in May 2024. It isn’t your run-of-the-mill action novel — it’s the kind that mixes full-throttle suspense with a hit of raw emotion. This is the first book in the Zach Axton series, and honestly, it already feels like the start of something binge-worthy. Zach Axton is an FBI agent who’s basically running on fumes — grieving the brutal murder of the woman he loved, one step away from walking away from everything. But when a prisoner from a top-secret brain-enhancement program escapes in a bloody mess, Zach gets pulled back into the chase. The twist? This isn’t just another criminal — the guy is faster, smarter, and terrifyingly unpredictable. And Zach’s greatest skill — reading the minds of killers — might just be the thing that gets him killed. What hooked me is how real Zach feels. He’s not some untouchable hero; he’s a man hanging together with tape and grit, still managing to push forward. The dynamic with his old partner and a razor-sharp Assistant DA brings the perfect mix of banter, tension, and teamwork. And the action? Let’s just say it plays out in your head like a movie — car chases, close calls, and those quiet moments where you actually feel the weight of what’s at stake. The brain-enhancement angle is seriously clever — not just for the thrills, but because it opens up this whole “how far is too far” conversation about science and ethics. And the villain? Easily one of the smartest and creepiest I’ve read in a while. Highly recommended from my side.
Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The kind of thriller that keeps you turning pages at 2 a.m. without regret.
Final Verdict: Infliction Point is adrenaline, brains, and heart all rolled into one. If you want a thriller that actually makes you care about the people in it — not just the explosions — this one’s a must.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway and wow, am I glad that I won this one!! If it is possible to write the perfect first book, Mark Hacker has done it because I can't imagine how he follows up this stellar debut.
A low IQ killer murders a senator's daughter but may get off because of his intellectual disability. The powerful senator arranges for an unscrupulous scientist to do an experiment on the killer to possibly increase his intelligence enough for the killer to be judged fit to stand trial. But it works too well and now a vengeful killer with a genius intellect is on an insane killing spree. Opposing him is the man who crawled into a alcohol bottle and camped there after the woman he loved, the senator's daughter, died. But this PTSD-stricken man has a unique skill set - he's an ex-Delta Force supersoldier with a singular ability to get into the mind of a killer because he's one, too. Non-stop action & mystery, well-fleshed out and flawed characters that you will simultaneously care for and get exasperated by, a truly horrifying villain and his cohorts, heroic law enforcement personnel, next-level scientific inventiveness, blood-n-guts savagery, a fabulous dog, a believable bromance, a beautiful and brainy ADA love interest; this book has it all and then some. I have not been wowed by a book like this in years!! The only bad thing about it is that it's going to make what ever I read next seem tepid AF!! Get to writing, Mark Hacker, I need your next book ASAP!! Highly, thoroughly, unreservedly recommended - this book is SPECTACULAR!!

A lenient judge deems a murderer mentally deficient, thus setting off a roller coaster ride where a former FBI Agent, a current US Senator, a top neuroscientist, and many others become tangled in the web of Kayla's murder and its consequences.
Zach Axton is a reluctant hero, at turns funny with quick quips, and at others fierce and driven. Like all good heroes, he has his demons to exorcise. When he gets back into the game, all bets are off, especially as he faces off with Senator Bradley, whose dubious motives are on full display at every step, and the killer Charlie Moore himself, whose mind becomes the fixation point of everyone involved. And you can’t read this without mentioning Koko, the beloved Border Collie who steals every scene she’s in.
I loved how quickly this novel established its story, but the real hook for me is the premise of brain enhancement—of Moore, at first deemed incapable of controlling his own actions, now given a supercharged shot of brainpower. Be careful what you wish for. Within a tightly-packed thriller, this psychological aspect makes you wonder where the state of biological advances will take us into the future, and what frightening unintended consequences could result.
This book was made for a movie—or better yet, a TV series. So many scenes read like intense film moments, with Hacker transporting the reader there. I’m anxiously awaiting the next Zach Axton thriller, and plan on following Hacker’s career closely from here on out.

In doing so, he is willing to do anything, including making the murder go through an unethical and criminal scientific experiment to ensure the murder stand trial, despite the judges attempts to prevent this from happening due to the bad blood between him and Senator Reynolds. Zach is an FBI agent and a close friend of Kayla. He blames himself for her demise and also wishes to bring Charlie Moore’s murder to justice, but with a more legal method.
Infliction Point by Mark Hacker is a book that shows the extent to which a grieving father can go to avenge his daughter’s death, though most of his actions were blinded by the guilt of not being able to show his daughter how much he loved her. Charlie Moore is a manipulative serial killer who is a weapon to the enemy and a threat to Austin, Texas. This book is filled with action and thrills, and at some point, things became quite complex; it was difficult to follow, but I know readers who enjoy books on crime will really like how detailed this book is.
This one was a wild ride from start to finish. Charlie Moore, a not very smart serial killer, made the mistake of killing the daughter of an influential senator. Senator wants Charlie to go to prison, where he can arrange for a revenge murder. Instead, a lenient judge says Charlie’s IQ is too low for him to be tried for murder and that he can’t tell right from wrong. The Senator, working on the down low, arranges for Charlie to undergo a procedure that will raise his IQ by a few points, just enough to get the job done. Instead, his intellectual function is now off the charts, and he’s working so fast that the guys looking for him—Zach Axton, an FBI export and former military guy for one—-are racing to acatch him before his evils alter more than just individuals.
This is a good yarn and I recommend it! It had some uneven pacing, but I’ll look for the next one in the series.
I'm leaving a four on this because I absolutely loved the story itself. I loved the characters and their interactions with each other. Moore is a villain you both respect and hate. The story kept me reading.
I would have left it five and almost dropped another star because of the errors. This book needs a strong read through edit. Words were switch, extra words were added, and the wrong words were used quite often. My biggest problem was the mistakes with quotation marks. There were both extra in places and other places where they were missing. It sometimes got confusing in a lot of text with conversation. There were also points where I'd skim a paragraph because of over descriptive writing.
All in all, this is a great read. If it wasn't for the errors all over the place, this would have been a five star read. Great story telling.
This doesn’t feel like a one-off story—it feels like the beginning of something much bigger.
Zach Axton is a character built for a series. He’s flawed, intelligent, and constantly evolving. The threats he faces aren’t just isolated incidents—they feel like the first ripples of a much larger storm. By the time you finish the book, you’ll have more questions than answers, not because the story is incomplete, but because it feels like there’s so much more to explore.
The world-building is intricate—Hacker introduces government secrets, deep conspiracies, and a network of dangerous players, any of which could resurface in a future installment. And then there’s the villain—without spoilers, let’s just say that no loose end is ever truly tied up in a book like this.
If this becomes a long-running series, it has the potential to stand alongside the best names in modern thrillers. I’ll be first in line for the sequel.
Infliction Point has the soul of a noir thriller—a detective struggling against forces bigger than him, a city that feels just as dangerous as the people in it, and a world where justice isn’t guaranteed, only survival is.
The atmosphere in this book is thick with tension—you can almost feel the cigarette smoke lingering in the air, hear the distant sirens, and sense the inevitable doom waiting just around the corner. The Austin setting is gritty, lived-in, and unforgiving.
And Axton? He’s the classic noir protagonist—a man carrying the weight of his past, barely holding himself together, but too stubborn to back down. He knows the system is broken, he knows the odds are against him, but he keeps going, even when the shadows start closing in.
If you love noir fiction where the lines between hero and villain are blurred, where morality is a question, and where every step forward feels like sinking deeper into the abyss, Infliction Point is exactly what you need.
Well, this was certainly high octane with no rest for anyone. The idea was quite interesting if also frightening to say the least. Imagining altering one's brain to increase function. Then imagine they experimented on a serial killer with a low IQ. He then goes from barely functioning to the smartest man in the world and decides to wreck havoc and utter chaos beginning in Texas.
Zax Axton may not be as smart, but he has secrets of his own and tragic ties with the now "brilliant" psychopath. It's definitely non-stop action and a blood bath so be prepared.
I did feel the romance came on a bit too quickly considering what they were dealing with in a short period of time, and it had quite a few grammatical errors that should have been caught, but it was a quick and brutal read if that's what you are looking for.
I love a good thriller, and this one had a lot of potential, but fell short for me.
The story starts out strong. Charlie Moore is a killer who was abused as a child. When he is captured and brought to trial, the court determined his IQ is too low for him to be brought to trial for potentially the death penalty. Moore has killed the daughter of a corrupt Senator, who decides he isn't ok with that. So, he has a scientist who is researching how to stimulate brain activity experiment with the treatment on Moore, so his brain can be active enough to stand trial.
Of course, the experiment goes horribly wrong and turns Moore into a super genius instead, who is now intent on destroying his enemies and the world.
At some point, the book just drags on and gets way too complex. I think it could have been cut in half and been about right. Instead, I got lost by the end and felt like I had invested way too much time.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Infliction Point isn’t just a thriller—it’s a strategic duel, where Zach Axton is constantly calculating his next move against an opponent who plays the game at a superhuman level.
The villain is not just violent—he’s precise. Every action he takes is thought-out five steps ahead, forcing Axton into an impossible position. It’s a battle of intelligence, strategy, and deception, and just when Axton thinks he has control of the board, a new piece moves, tipping everything off balance.
Mark Hacker writes this like a grandmaster setting up an endgame—every small detail comes back into play, and every decision matters. The tension builds like a chess clock ticking down, and when checkmate comes, it’s not what you expected.
This is a thriller for thinkers—for those who love stories where intelligence is just as lethal as brute force. And trust me, this villain is playing to win.
