Written in 1938, I didn't really believe initially that such stories were written in Gujarati language, back those days. Full of imaginative story inline with the historical characters and incidents. This, a story of seafarer businessmen from Gujarat who created their own world in Zanzibar. An engaging and thoughtful telling. Interesting style of storytelling that has not one but three leads who keeps coming and going at turns of the tale. My first read from the writer btw, which made me think how many such which I have missed on.

Really a great novel! Unlike many others, this novel has much more amount of information, emotions, well-developed characters and sharp story line.

This novel keeps a reader attached to the story and never lets the flow slow down.

જેઓ વ્યાપક બનેલા, ડંખ ખોઈ બેઠેલા અનિષ્ટ તરફ આડકતરા ઘસડાઈ છે, તેઓને વહેલા મોડા સીધેસીધાં સંડોવાવા નું જ રહે છે.
સાહસિકો માટે
એવા એવા એકલીયા થઈ ગયા છે. ખુમારી થી ઘૂમ્યા, ખમીરથી જીવ્યા ને મર્દાનગીથી મૂઆ. એમને લોહીના લેખ લખ્યા ને પાછળના લોકોએ એના ઉપર સોનાના ઢોળ ચડાવ્યા.
મૃત્યુંજય ના આરાધકો એ શરીરના સાધકો બનવું જ જોઈએ ને?
જેણે સામી છાતીએ એક કેસરી સિંહ ને માર્યો હોય, જેણે એકલે હાથે એક વાઘ માર્યો હોય, અને જેણે પોતાના કોમ.વતી હથિયાર ઉપડયા હોય એને જ અશકારી કહેવાય.
જે બારણે વણઝાર ના હાથી ઝૂલતા દેખે એ જેરામ શિવજીની પેઢી.
સામાન્ય શ્રદ્ધાળુઓ ને અસામાન્ય સંતો પર શુ ધર્મ athit નથી??
શિકારે ચડેલો માનવી જ્યારે મતલબના નહોર ઘસવા માંડે છે, ત્યારે રાક્ષસો પણ આ ધરતીને છોડીને જોવ લઈને નાસી જાય છે.
ખારા પાણી નો ખારવો લીલા ઝાડ પાંદડામાં પાણી વગર ના માછલાં જેવો જ હતો.
જંગલવાસી જે વાત સહેલાઇ થી સમજી શકે એ વાત શહેરનો વસનારો નહતો સમજતો.
જંગલનાં કામ, ને મધવગડાના મામલા! ધારેલા દોસ્તો દુશ્મન નીકળે ને દુશ્મન માન્યા દોસ્ત નીકળે. જંગલ એટલે અણધાર્યા અકસ્માતો, અણનોતર્યા મામલા ને અણકલ્પી મુસીબતોનો સંભાર.

ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય ની અંદર દરિયાઈ સાહિત્ય માં લખાયેલ ખૂબ ઓછા પુસ્તકો માનું એક પુસ્તક. ગુજરાતી દરિયાઈ ઇતિહાસ ને યોગ્ય સ્થાન અર્પે છે ગુણવંતરાય આચાર્ય. ખૂબ જ સમૃદ્ધ દરિયાઈ ઇતિહાસ હોવા છતાં સાહિત્યકારો એ ખૂબ ઓછું ખેડાણ કર્યું છે આ વિષય પર.
દરિયાલાલ ઐતિહાસિક તથ્યો ને કેન્દ્ર માં રાખી ને લખાયેલ અદ્ભુત નવલકથા.
