When I originally read this, in 2016, a respectful hero was rarer than unicorns!
If I re-read this, it might be a 3-3.5 stars.
However, I'll leave it here because I just couldn't fault this hero whatsoever.
His initial reaction to the older heroine when they had an ONS was of awe which only increased throughout the book.
I'm not going to lie, the age WAS an issue.
The hero felt comfortable with the age gap and felt reassured.
No, he didn't have mummy issues, he just really appreciated a fully mature woman who could've completely lived life to fullest without him, however she chose not to, and decided to give him a chance.

This is a story about a 35-year-old divorced mother of two boys having an one night stand with a man 7 years her junior and despite the fact that they were responsible adults, they ended up with an unplanned baby. The baby she decides to keep because she has always longed for a big family, but since her ex-husband wasn't a really good husband, she couldn't have one with him.

I have not read the previous books in this series and to be frank, I only started this book because I happened to get a copy as a Kindle freebie. But I am glad that I did give this book a shot as it was simple and sweet and something that I was in the mood for at the moment. I do not think that it is necessary to read the previous books in the series to understand anything even though it would seem that some of the characters are already familiar from the other books. E.g. the first book in the series about our this time heroine's sister and the second book is about her (best?) friend.

I liked seeing how Liam's and Evie's feelings grew for each other and while Liam was always the one who knew that they're IT for one another, Evie was the one who tried to push Liam away again and again and again. To be honest, I tired of it quite fast and I was actually expecting for Liam to say something to Evie about it a lot sooner, but in the end he was a very patient man who managed to wait out Evie's insecurities. But really, that woman really tried my patience as I almost had an urge to kick her for her obtusity.

Arc provided by Author for an Honest review!

"When They Weren't Looking" such an appropriate title, is it not the truth about love , it sneaks up on you when your not looking for it and in the most unexpected of ways !
Evie Calhoun has had a long ten years stuck in a marriage that stopped working and stopped being full of love and passion and since she has been out of it ,she has done nothing for herself, everything for her boys and her business, so her mother Claire decides its time for Evie to think of herself she hands Evi 500 dollars takes the boys for the weekend and sends her off to the city with instructions t spend the money on herself. Evie does just that she hits a spa, check into a nice hotel, has a manni pedi and later hits the hotel bar. Unbenounced to her probably the best decision , well one of them of the day, because soon after arriving at the ba she has a drink sent to her by a very handsome young man who asks to join her . Liam was out with his friends celebrating graduation when he spotted Evie and became utterly captivated with the beautiful Blonde. He can not help himself he send her a drink , some witty banter and convinces her to join them for Karaoke, which leads to them heading back to his condo for a wild not of sex Evie has not experienced in years.
Unfortunately for Lim he wakes inthe morning to find Evie gone and furthermore when he gets to her hotel she is gone from there too!
Evie finds herself regretting her wild passion filled night not for the memories but because of the unexpected bundle of joy that will arrive in a outright months and the fact that she did not bother to get more info on Liam, he'll she doesn't even know his last name, how the hell is she going to even let him know he is going to be a father, give him an opportunity to be a part of the child's life .
Unkown to Evie Liam is moving to Wardham and he is looking for her for a second date, he'll a third and fourth because he just can not forget her!
This two are both in for a surprise and Liam will have to battle the scars of Evie's past to prove that he is not going anywhere and he really does wan her and the baby and though you would think he might be feeling trapped he is feeling the farthest from it! Maybe just maybe a loving relationship can be found out of a one night stand!

Will Liam prove to Evie he loves her? Will small town Wardham be judgemental? Will here's husband Dale use the pregnancy against her? What will freinds an family do when they discover she is unwed and pregnant ?

Once again Zoe York pulled me in to Wardham and this small towns community an I did not want to leave, the people of Wardham are wonderful characters that are full of life and difficult to leave behind. Get a chance pick this up and be welcomed to Wardham ! P.s. if Evie ever tires of Liam I'll take him!

I wanted to smack the female main character a few [dozen] times, but it was an enjoyable book. The male main character is almost too good to be true.

Excerpt from When They Weren't Looking.

“Okay, tell me.”

Liam narrowed his gaze. “Tell you what?”

“What’s your impossible fantasy?”

“Evie, you don’t want to do this.”

“Don’t tell me what I want.” Even as the words were spilling out of her mouth, she knew they were the wrong choice.

His lips twitched, and he leaned forward, bracing his arms on his knees. He laced his fingers together and cocked an eyebrow in her direction. “Then how can I tell you my fantasy?”

This was a dangerous game. And she didn’t care. She leveled an even glare at Liam and adopted her best couldn’t-care-less attitude. “We need to get this out into the open and deal with it. Tell me what you want, I’ll tell you how it won’t happen, and we can move on to being friends.”

His jaw twitched. “You want to just be friends?”

She nodded.

“You want me to tell you that I want you underneath me, naked in my bed.” He stood up and crossed his arms. “That I want you to give me control for a night, let me lick, suck, fuck you into oblivion.” His bicep flexed under his tight t-shirt and she shivered. “That I want you wet and ready for me to make you come, over and over again, all night long. That’s what you want to hear?”

Every part of her was clenched. Most of it was anxiety, but at her very core, she knew she was aroused. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Right. See, that’s my point. Liam, I’m not that kind of woman.” It sounded thin even to her own ears. She flushed. “I’m not interested in meaningless sex. You need to find a fuck-buddy and forget all about me.”

He fisted his hands in front of his face and groaned. Evie swallowed hard and stood firm, even as he advanced toward her. His face was unreadable. “Sweetheart, when you spit out a lie and a truth at the same time, it makes this very complicated.”

She shook her head. “I’m not lying.”

He stopped a foot away. She could feel tension rolling off his body in hot waves. “Yes, you are. But I’ll ignore that, because I lied too.”

She huffed a burst of air instead of asking. He was going to tell her anyway.

“That’s a pretty awesome fantasy, and yes, I want all of that. Particularly the part about you being naked. That features front and center in all of my fantasies right now. But my impossible fantasy? The one that tortures me? That’s where you finally admit that I’m your boyfriend. Where I’m sleeping in your bed, not one night, but every night. Where you don’t give up any control, where you tell me exactly what you want, where you want it and how many times.”

It took Evie a few seconds to absorb it, and then she back up a step, hitting the wall. “Oh.”

Liam closed the gap between them, pressing his thighs hard against hers, but being as careful as always around her belly. “So. That was my honesty. Now let’s deal with yours.”

She closed her eyes. One word, and this could end. All she had to do was tell him no, and he’d back off. She rolled the word over in her head, willing it to spill out of her mouth. It didn’t.

“Truth. You’re not interested in meaningless sex. Lie. You’re not that kind of woman. You absolutely are. You are hot, inside and out. You are made brick by brick of passion and desire, and you long for a safe partner with whom you can share a really–” he slid his hands down her thighs, to where her shorts met soft, warm skin, and curved his hands around to cup her legs just beneath her bottom “–hard–” with a jerk, he lifted her up and ground his erection into her core “–fuck.”

This third full length novel in the Wardham series by Zoe York gives us the story of Liam and Evie. Evie is a recently divorced single mom, getting by with her Pilates instructor job, who is gifted a weekend away and has a one night stand with a sexy stranger. Liam is a successful businessman from a wealthy family but upon learning where Evie is from takes advantage of the fact that he has relatives living there to head out to Wardham in hopes of renewing their acquaintance - only they both get a little more than they bargained for.

This story was really interesting to me. It's the first time I've read a romance book where the heroine is being wooed by the hero throughout her pregnancy. Evie is a cautious single mother with 2 children - she's willing to own up to her mistakes and raise this baby on her own. She is concerned about Liam's motives and can't really believe he has a serious interest in being a co-parent so she tries to keep herself closed off to him. Liam is a generous, strong, sweet man, determined to show Evie that he is willing to stay the course, that he isn't nursing an infatuation for her but is looking for real commitment. As they learn to trust each other, their relationship deepens to one of real emotional intimacy.

Though the sexual chemistry is present from the beginning, the open door bedroom scenes don't come along until quite late in the story, a delicious slow build for the reader as they wonder whether Evie will allow Liam fully into her life and her bed, or just let him play a parental role in their child's life. There was no insta-love in this book - sexual desire yes, but it's only in the deepening of their friendship and trust that their love develops in a fitting and very appropriate manner. Liam and Evie will capture your heart as they take those first tentative steps towards a lifelong partnership. 5 stars!

One night of lovemaking with a total stranger? What could go wrong, or could it be absolutely right?

Evie, a single mother of two boys, suddenly finds herself in a bar alone, but not for long. A graduate student finds her attractive and they strike up a conversation that leads to more. Lots more since this night of safe, albeit hot, sex has consequences in the form of a pregnancy.

Realizing she doesn't even know his name, she's in a quandary. What to do as she knows she wants the baby even if she is barely surviving (financially, that is).

Meanwhile, Liam is also looking for her, but he has some clue to her identity. He wants more than one night, but the baby...will it pull them apart or bring them together?

How long can she keep her pregnancy a secret in the small town of Wardham? What about the affect on the boys? Will they accept the father of her child or not? Will she when she realizes the differences in their ages?

While Liam embraces the possibility of a future together, Evie is too aware of the age difference and other potential roadblocks. Can he bring her around?

Loved the diabetes diagnosis, but felt that was too easily dismissed as taken care of because the reality is that a few days in the hospital, etc. probably wouldn't solve all ongoing problems with a person with Type 1 diabetes. Low and high glucose levels, insulin injections, testing, diet changes, and so much more would cause constant vigilance on the part of the child, mother, and father.

A few WTT trends (smirks and lots of winks), but a satisfying ending, overall. Plus an extra story tacked to the end of the novel (review to come under the heading of the title).

3.5 stars.

I found an audiobook available with a good deal. I picked it up since I love surprise babies. I loved that Evie was taking the chance to have fun. And that Liam clearly was attracted. But after some complicated plot devices, Liam finds out Evie is pregnant and steps up. Unfortunately, the romance falls flat because there's too many subplots and devices. It gets lost.

And frankly, I didn't quite understand what Liam and Evie had in common beyond the baby. An attempt was made but I didn't buy the connection. I did appreciate that Liam wanted to be a part of the pregnancy and helped calm her fears about previous relationships. And he does accept her two sons. But I don't know where their connection really happened. I love yous before really knowing each other. And planning marriage.

I gave the rating based on the writing style...and I did like the characters. I just didn't buy the romance. I wasn't a fan of the dropped storyline when it came to the diabetes since it would be a big uphill battle with incoming pregnancy. I'd like to have seen her family come together more, showing a support network.

And the audiobook wasn't bad. Narrator Rebecca Roberts did take me out a bit when doing the children's voices. Too twee at times. But otherwise enjoyed her work.

Not so much a secret baby as much as an oops baby, I really enjoyed how the relationship grew between Evie and Liam. The dynamic of the older woman and younger man was a slight problem for Evie at first, but as with so many things in this story, Liam’s patience and actions put that to rest. Not that Evie could be blamed for having concerns, with her past relationships and Liam holding back on some matters important to her, she was justifiably second guessing the obvious. Loved the maturity they both showed, in so many matters, and like Liam, you knew where they would end up, it just needed time. Great narration, great story!

I got an ARC from the author in exchange of an honest review

Lt me just say, When They Weren't Looking is my favourite book in the whole series. It was fun and entertaining and just made me feel so good. Every girl should have a guy like Liam in their lives.

Being a single mother Evie Calhoun spends all her time being there for her kids, taking care of them, running a studio to feed them all, being a good sister and daughter. So when Evie's mother tells her to take a day to herself and forget about everything else, Evie just wants to let loose and have some fun. She never expects a hot and sexy business student to buy her a drink or to take her out and have a little hot action. But one night of fun doesn't always have the best of results. Not when you get pregnant with your one-night stand and don't his last name or where to find him.

Liam McIntosh is a just out of business school and celebrating his graduation when his eyes stop at the sexy blond sitting alone. Though a bit older than him, Liam cannot resist the blonde beauty. When he buys her a drink he expects there to be some between the sheets action. But what he does not expect is to want to date Evie, only to find her gone the next morning.

Liam never told her he was buying property in Wardham. So when she unexpectedly meets him in Wardham, Evie decides to tell him about the pregnancy and leave it at that. She has raised two boys, she can obviously raise one more herself. Right?

When Liam finds out he is going to be father, he is determined to do the right thing by him. Which is obviously to marry her. But Evie is also determined to stay away from him. He was after all just a one-night stand. Between her kids, a new born baby on the way and trying to keep a roof of their heads and food in their mouths, Evie doesn't have time for a relationship. Liam will have to pull all the stops to prove to Evie that he is in it for the long haul and that it is not a short-term arrangement.

When They Weren't Looking being a book about a single mother, I hoped there would be more instances of Liam interacting with Evie's kids. Unfortunately that did not happen. Also Liam has a rocky relationship with his parents, especially his father. Their issues were never properly addressed or resolved. I would have liked that a lot.

Despite all my complaints, this book was the best in he series. I loved it. Zoe York gets her characters hotter with each new book. The book had a good story line with amazing characters.

Liam was a real sweetheart. She adored Evie and was willing to fight for her and what they could have. Evie herself was a strong character. Her only weak spot being her ex-husband, who mind you was a real dick. But Liam always stood by her and was always at her defense.

An amazing story with equally amazing characters, When They Weren't Looking was an awesome book. I look forward to reading more books in the series.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for honest review*

Evie Calhoun wants to get her groove back, after her not so great marriage ended, she a great mother and works hard, a weekend in the city to get away from it all to relax, have some fun and when she meet Liam maybe something more.

“There was something temping about the man. Long and lean, with dark hair, and refined features. Quietly handsome, but overtly sexy”

Liam is out celebrating with his friends when he meets Evie he is instantly attractive to her. She is not looking for love, he is not looking for forever, but one-night stands with no straights attached results into something unexpected, and more for both of them.

“She caught his eye as soon as they entered the bar…….there was something else about her that captured his imagination. She was sexy, no doubt about that”

I liked the storyline it was a sweet heartwarming entertaining read, about how life is full of surprise, and working out what you really want. Evie was sweet, and I like her after meeting her in the first book in the series so I was pleased that she was getting her own book. She was hesitant to let Liam into her life, which was understandable, as her marriage had left her confidence low and afraid of commitment, but I do wish she had given Liam an easier time. They had such great chemistry together, and she knew it!

“The lick of his fingers against her skin triggered a wave of heat that gathered stream as it surged trough her body”

I really loved Liam he was such a sweetheart, and a real, genuine guy. I would have like some more info about his family as I was left with a few questions about his relationship with them. He has his work cut out to make Evie trust him, but I loved his determination not to give up on what he wanted, and what he wanted was a life with Evie, and his baby.

“There’s something between us. But we’re adults, Evie We might not be able to control our chemistry, but it’s entirely up to us if we act on it”

“Because I think we could be really good together. Better than good. Awesome in fact”

Overall I really enjoyed ‘When They Weren’t Looking” by Zoe York. Yet again I was wrapped up into the lives of two more characters from the lovely town of Wardham. So thank you Zoe! As always you get to revisit the other characters from the series, which is lovely. There was no epilogue so I hoping that I will see more of Evie and Liam in the next or future books, as I would love to see more of them as a couple. I’m looking forward to Beth and Finn novella followed by Layney’s brother Chase book. “No Time Like Forever”

As always I recommend this sweet romantic heartwarming series for the times when you want something that is low on the angst and drama.

When They Weren’t Looking (Book 3). Zoe York
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book Reviews.

Book three of the Wardham series, but as each book is a standalone and complete, it didn't matter that I hadn't read earlier ones, though possibly there were small things I missed, connections etc from not knowing the characters.
Still, it was easy to pick up and follow the story. Its a sweet romance, the unexpected consequences of a hot and sexy, and for Evie, very unusual one night stand. She doesn't have any info on Liam though other than the basics, so telling him he's to be a dad is going to be hard. Luckily he turns up in the town where she lives, and he's delighted. He wants to dive in and be part of Evie's life, but after two failed relationships, and with two young sons to look after she's very cautious. Add to that he's a few years younger and ...she's running scared. Liam's a gem though, not easily put off, not going to abandon her and his child and gradually he insinuated himself into her life. I loved him, a really genuine, kind and loving man. He'd had a difficult family relationship, and wanted more for his child than he had from his upbringing. Evie, she was sweet, loved her boys but was really conscious of the slurs on her character her ex had thrown around. She knew once he met Liam she'd face taunts about his age. Its easy to say the only opinions that matter are our own, but hard in practice to make that work, and Evie was always running an internal monologue about what she should do/had done and what she ought to have done instead. It left her with little self confidence, and yet she was an excellent mum and support to her kids.
Its a sweet story, lovely character,s including his and her friends, a little gentle drama, but for me it was just a bit too soft and sweet. I needed a bit more highs and lows, anger and happiness, tears and laughter. Still, as I’m always saying that's just my view, and there are other readers that adore this kind of gentle romance. Its well written, had parts that pull at emotions at times, especially those lovely boys of hers and how they try to look after her sometimes :)
At the moment is on offer at just 77p for 252 pages, so a bargain if you like this small town, gentle romance type of story.
Stars: Three, a good book just not enough drama for me to rate it higher.

“Deep down, she yearned for that passion. If she was really being honest with herself, what she really wanted was an awesome romp.”

Evie Calhoun takes a vacation in Toronto’s magical and sophisticated business district, away from Wardham, her abusive ex-husband, and her two beautiful boys who make her world right. While enjoying a fancy cocktail at the hotel bar, a young handsome stranger buys her another drink. She throws caution to the wind, after all, she is on vacation…

“They were drunk enough to do something crazy.”

Her awesome fantasy becomes a terrible reality when eight hours of reckless pleasure results in a pregnancy… How is she to handle a newborn all on her own? And what will the people of Wardham, and even worse, her ex-husband, have to say about it?

Liam wants a second date with Evie, and a third, and fourth, but what will she think when he shows up in her hometown to buy rental property? Sure, Wardham is a far cry different from Toronto, but

Liam knows he would enjoy the small town, and even more so, he wants to get to know Evie better. But was their physical relationship doomed from the start?
When Liam learns that Evie is pregnant, he can’t help but to be excited for their future. Evie thinks he is living in lala land, and she has some serious doubts. Evie keeps her heart guarded, as Liam steps up his game.

“She’d set the rules, this was all they could have. It wasn’t enough, and they both knew it.”
He has 29 weeks before the baby arrives. On top of his desire for her as a woman was a new layer of gratitude, she was going to bear his child! Some decisions are leaps of faith. Liam thinks of Evie as his woman, but now he just needs to get her on board…

When They Weren’t Looking, by Zoe York is a refreshing romance with a happily-ever-after! Liam personifies the term, “book boyfriend”, and is a breath of fresh air in a world full of Maury shows and DNA testing drama. The oh so lovable Liam will charm female readers everywhere!

When They Weren’t Looking is a story about love, new beginnings, and uninhibited sexuality. An erotic romance with substance, Zoe York doesn’t disappoint!
4 stars! :)

3.5 'TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT' STARS!

This is a good addition to the sexy, sweet Wardham series by the talented Zoe York.

This is Evie Calhoun and Liam McIntosh's story. They met and had a one night stand, which resulted in an unplanned pregnancy. Unbeknownst to Evie, Liam has a connection to Wardham and he's headed there to put down roots. Evie is a divorced mom of two young boys, having recently gotten out of a loveless and sexless marriage consumed with verbal abuse. She's not easy to trust, quite the opposite as she is all over the place and, at times, downright awful to the ever patient, cool as a cucumber Liam. Liam absolutely made this story for me with his devotion to the difficult to love (or like!) Evie, his unwavering belief in them and his unconditional support of her.

Liam knows what he wants - Evie, permanently in his life as more than a co-parent - and he bides his time so, so patiently while showing her over and over and over again that he will always be there no matter what she throws at him. And Evie throws a lot at him. I'll admit, there were times in this book where she frustrated the hell out of me and I wanted to shake her, but in the end, when she finally, finally got there, she was all in.

As is usual with a Zoe York novel, the writing is superb, the characters well developed, and the love story is real and passionate. Plus we have the added bonus of more from our favorite couples. While this one is not my most favorite of the series, and that was strictly because Evie was just a hair too over the top in her denial of Liam for my personal taste, this was still a good addition to a great small town romance series.

Heat and heart. Heady combination

This book was amazing.

Evie was so easy to relate to and admire. She's a strong, intelligent, single mother who has let her ex almost destroy her self esteem. She breaks loose 1 time in forever, with a dream of a man. She was totally "protected" and completely swept away. She was shocked to discover she's pregnant. And has no idea how to find the man she knows only as Liam.

Liam is perfect. He has an amazing one night stand and moves to get to know her better. He's shocked but understanding, patient, loyal. He lets her fight her own battles but stands behind her in support.

Loved this book. So much

I am so happy to finally read Evie's story. Evie out for an evening of fun when she meets Liam, the unexpected happens. Evie already has two boys from her first failed marriage, so she is afraid of another commitment. I just loved Liam's perseverance of not giving up. Even though he is younger, he has a plan for their future and nothing will get in the way of winning Evie's heart.
It was great to revisit with the other characters of Wardham stories. This is a series but can be read as a stand alone. I received this ARC from the author for an honest review.

The writing was good

The story could have been great had all of the issues she presented were addressed. this was not ment to be a cliffhanger and the things she left dangling are not interesting enough to edge me to buy another book to find out the answers. I just don't understand why she talked about it and didn't conclude it. this could have been a five star of she didn't waist so much time on the heroin being extremely silly, and used that wasted space to finish what she stated. I feel as tho I've wasted my time

Evie Calhoun is a divorced mom of two boys. When her mom sends her away for the weekend with some money to spend solely on herself, Evie has an enjoyable day in Toronto, and a steamy night with a hot guy she met in the hotel bar. Six weeks later, Evie is lamenting not getting the guy's last name - she's got something important to tell him! Liam McIntosh really, really enjoyed his night with Evie and, although he didn't tell her this, he plans to spend more nights with her once he wraps up some personal stuff in Toronto. He's moving to Wardham, Evie's home town, where his uncle lives. Although he's anxious to see Evie, he's pretty surprised to learn he's going to be a father. But that doesn't deter him from trying to make something with Evie. Unfortunately, her ex-husband has made her gun-shy with men and she's not sure she can trust Liam. I enjoyed this book, but it moved a bit slow at times and didn't hold my interest the entire time.

I’m not sure what compelled me to search my Kindle for which Zoe York books I’ve purchased, but I did one night. When I couldn’t remember reading When They Weren’t Looking (even though Kindle told me I had), I decided to read it again...because I’m kinda a big fan of the accidental pregnancy trope. This one didn’t disappoint!

Evie Calhoun is a recently divorced single mom of two boys, ages nine and six. Finally, a year after her marriage ended, she’s feeling like her feet are solidly under her. Things are tight financially, so when her mom gifts her a weekend away she takes the chance to relax and have some fun. Fun that - uncharacteristically - ends up involving a one night stand with a handsome and charming younger man.

Liam McIntyre is celebrating graduation from business school with several friends when he notices Evie at a hotel bar. Two drinks and an invitation back to his apartment later, Liam is left with incredible memories and the name of the town where Evie lives. It takes him a couple months, but after quitting his job and selling his condo, he’s ready for a simpler life in Wardham. Also known as the hometown of Evie Calhoun.

Evie is shocked to see Liam walk through the door of her pilates studio. Liam is shocked to learn his memorable night with Evie resulted in a pregnancy - but he’s all in, for both being a parent AND furthering his relationship with Evie. Evie, however, is a little less enthusiastic. Between still healing from her divorce and not fully believing Liam is in for the long haul, she doesn’t make things easy for Liam. He won’t give up though, not until Evie, her boys, and their child are a family.

I consistently adore Ms. York’s books. There’s seldom extraneous problems - or conflict - caused by outside sources. The hero and heroine certainly have issues to navigate...but they’re caused by past life experiences and not self-inflicted angst. Evie made me slightly cranky in this book simply because she pushed Liam away over and over and tried to keep him at arm's length even though he was patient and persistent in showing how much he wanted to be with her. But even that was understandable.

I still have more Wardham Series books to read. I can’t decide if I want to space them out or read them all now!

We shall see...

Incomplete somehow

This book has a very good premise, and I liked the main characters, but it seems incomplete in some way. I'd have liked more of their backstroke to have come out. More about Evie and Dale, but especially about Liam and his family. Then there's the whole numbering system for this series, and the extra novellas included in some of them. Read this, then read the next book, but it allot jt, just till the first ending. Then read the extras in the previous book before you read the extra in this one. The problem with the wedding novella in this one is that it doesn't tell you there are soldiers for the next two books in the series. It's all confusingly formatted.

3. 75 Stars for me!

My rating range throughout the story... 3 Stars - 4.25 Stars

Scenes with heat.. Minimal until the last couple of hours and then lots of heat!

The back story... She is a 35 year old mom who has a one night stand after 2 years with no relationships. She gets pregnant even though condoms were used. He finds out and wants to be a part of her life and the child's life but she cannot fathom a guy who would stay.

The Romance... The H is the driving force but tries to do it without pressure. The h spends all of her time pushing away. For me, it went on to long which took it from 4.25 to 3.75 Stars for me.

The drama explosion... Mild. No spoilers here

Evie is enjoying a get-away from her small hometown, Liam is celebrating graduating with an MBA, and the one night stand in Toronto leads to an unexpected pregnancy. Evie has a lot in her life to deal with, an ex-husband, owning her own business, raising two sons. Liam's uncle lives in Evie's hometown, across the street from Evie's mother. After Liam quits his demanding job in Toronto, he moves in with his uncle and works the farm while planning his future. So the two are thrown together and the fun begins. Evie thinks Liam is too young and too good to be true. Liam really is a dream come true (at least for me). So this is a beautiful love story that keeps the reader wanting more.

Lust or Trust & Love?

A divorced mom of 2 boys, a weekend getaway, a hot younger man, safe sex...what could go wrong? 6 weeks later, Evie uses a home pregnancy test & confirms her one night stand resulted in a baby on the way. Meanwhile, Liam has relocated to Wardham, planning on date #2 with Evie. Both are faced with surprises. Liam knows what he wants. Evie has issues, mostly based on her past, & will need to overcome them in order to have a future with Liam. Trust comes hard. Will Liam be patient & will Evie learn to trust Liam?

This one is the third book in the Wardham series by Ms. York. The books in this series are standard, mostly comfortable reads. There isn’t anything unexpected or out of the ordinary. This one was a little different in that Evie was seven years older than Liam. That wasn’t really an issue for me, but it may be for some readers. It definitely was an issue for Evie! She was also a little annoying on how much she harped on the age difference. Liam is a great all-around book boyfriend. When They Weren’t Looking is entertaining and quick.

An ok read, part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. No cliffhanger. Evie, a divorced mother of 2, goes to the city for the weekend and meets Liam, they have what they think is a 1 night stand. Evie ends up pregnant and is trying to find Liam when she runs into him in her small town. They, then have to figure out what to do, will they just co-parent or can they make a relationship work?
