You don’t have to discover penicillin, feed the poor in the streets of Calcutta, or be the first person to swim to Antarctica to make a remarkable difference in the world. The stories in Spot of Grace tell about moments when one person did something very simple — asked a question in wonder, smiled from the heart, risked a reach across the chasm of isolation so many of us experience. Extraordinary things start with these ordinary gestures. And as they grow and flourish, they can make a profound difference in someone else’s life.
Who are the heroes in your life? Has there been a special someone who encouraged your dreams, made you feel completely understood, or said a kind word at just the right time? Who is that special person who made a difference not by being rich or famous but by simply just being there.
Spot of Grace is an inspiring anthology of stories about those unsung heroes that changed a life. Various individuals share those most personal moments when someone stepped up to help them in a life changing way. In a society where we seem to value money and power over friendship and love, it is refreshing to see that the most important things we do have nothing to do with material possessions, fame, or fortune.
no, no, no. the promo for this book was so misleading. even the title is misleading.
i bought this because i LOVE the way dawna markova writes and find her writing to be so inspiring to me, as a person and as a writer. (See "I Will Not Die an Unlived Life", for example...)
she starts out this book explaining our 'spot of grace'... we all have one yada yada... then she explains that she sent a mass email asking people 'tell me a story about your spot of grace..." or something along those lines and received thousands of replies. this book is those replies, compiled.
hardly any of this book is written by dawna markova. the title page should read "edited by dawna markova." it is a compilation book. the title is misleading because it says "remarkable stories of how you DO make a difference." it should read "remarkable stories of people discovering how they make a difference" OR better yet!! "Spot of Grace: Chicken Soup for the A.D.D. Soul" since most of these stories are a page or less long.
Very disappointing, Dawna. Your heart was in the right place and the concept is captivating, but it got packaged all wrong on the way to the bookstore.
