Rate this book

A beautiful woman awakens on a plane and discovers that things are going terribly wrong. The plane is about to crash into the Hudson River…and she can’t even remember her own name.

After she survives the crash, the airline determines that her name is Angela Sands. But she has no idea who she really is.

Reporter Dante Kearns is fascinated by the woman the media dubs “the Angel of the Hudson,” especially once he discovers her shocking secret. Angela can hear voices in her head—the thoughts of all men around her. And when a man gets close, her face and form change into the woman of his dreams.

Who is Angela? And why does she believe that she was murdered before she woke up on that plane in a stranger’s body? Together, Angela and Dante are going to find answers, even if they have to bring down a killer to do so.

Nicole “Coco” Marrow, wife of Ice-T, keeps readers guessing with her pulse-pounding debut novel.

4.5 Stars! What a good debut novel by Marrow! A plane crash, an amnesiac, a reporter, a murder, a romance and a mysterious talent take center stage in this paranormal romance with a mainstream novel slant featuring a creative new mythos for the sexy female lead character.

The media named her "Angel of the Hudson" when she survived a plane crash and saved a baby — the only other survivor. Unfortunately, while she can recall the details of the crash, she has no memory of who she is, why she was on the plane or where she was going. She notices she is having strange reactions to people. She quickly begins to think she is going crazy.

Dante, a television reporter, is filming nearby on a ferry when the plane goes in the river. He is the first to spot the survivor and jumps in to rescue her. His brother happens to be a security guard at the hospital where she's taken and is able to slip her his card and visit her a time or two.

When she recovers from the minor injuries but still can't remember anything about herself other than what the airline tells her came up in their investigation, she is transferred to a "behavior center" a.k.a. psyche ward. There she discovers more about her strange ability and checks herself out. She finds Dante's card and calls him for help.

When she tells Dante of her ability, he isn't sure he believes her since the ability doesn't seem to work on/around him but finds himself agreeing to help her. However, when he witnesses for himself another strange aspect of her ability manifest, he can no longer deny it.

There are several subplots to make the story even more interesting. I think fans of mainstream thriller, paranormal romance and the supernatural genres will enjoy this.

The title character is Angela, who was pulled from the Hudson River after a plane crash--with her and the baby she saves as the only survivors. For her heroism she becomes known as the Angel of the Hudson. But she suffers from amnesia and only after the airline works through the manifest are they able to discover her name. An important question the doctors never ask her is when her amnesia began, and that answer is: before the plane wrecked. Yeah, it's important later on. Kind of.

Then she begins hearing things and she thinks she's going crazy. There are voices in her head, and they match the behavior and personalities of the people around her. No, wait, it's just the men. Why is it just the men? I don't know. No, wait again, it's all men, except one: Dante (get it? Angel...Dante?). Dante is the ambitious reporter for a 24-hour online news agency who happens to be in the right place at the right time when the plane goes down and involves himself in Angela's story.

At this point you should be wishing that the plane crashed and everyone died, end of story. Alas.

Morrow takes her sweet time unraveling Angela's mystery. Who she is. Where she gets her magic-like abilities--which are a strange and unexplainable assortment. Why she has these abilities. Why an ability works one time and not another. It never makes sense. And then and BAM in the last two pages there's an explanation for her abilities...but then they're twisted on their head mere paragraphs later. I really don't know how to explain this to you.

As for the plot--well, it moved forward. In a drunken, crazed sort of way, with Angela and Dante eventually teaming up to figure out what happened to her and why she can do the things she can. A problem will crop up, only to have it resolved by the end of the chapter. Characters come and go. It was impossible to tell where this story was headed. I mean, it's supposed to be a thriller, so I suspected something exciting to happen by the end.

They kind of "solve" the mystery. Convenient information appears and they use their convenient resources and new-found colleagues who conveniently believe them so they can help conveniently find what Angela and Dante need to know. There's some shooting and blood and stuff in the last chapter. Angela and Dante get together in the epilogue. But it was really hard to care from all the brain-squeezing I endured.

I know I'm not supposed to include spoilers, but you aren't going to read it anyway. So I'm telling you that we never find out who Angela is or where she comes from or why she even exists. Why was she was on the plane in the first place? WHY?!? I just don't know.

Recommended Age: Just...don't.
Language: A couple handfuls of unnecessarily harsh profanity.
Violence: Explosions, bloodied lips, kneed crotches--all for the sake of making it feel like a thriller.
Sex: Angela is one randy creature. The book drips with sex. And when I say dripping I mean like an annoying bathroom faucet when you're trying to sleep.

What a fascinating book! I wish I could think of a less "cliche'" way of saying that I really didn't want to put this one down. It grabs the reader on the first page, and keeps one wondering what the heck is going on. I am glad that I had the opportunity to read it and recommend it highly.

The Angel of the Hudson, as the Main Character of Angel was dubbed by the press after her daring rescue of a baby during the aftermath of a horrific plane crash that took the lives of most of the people on board, is a frightened, confused woman who doesn't know who she is, where she has been, or where she was going. She knows the details of the crash, as she remembers the plane going down, her seatmate, and people screaming. What she doesn't know is everything else.

She is hospitalized then shipped to a psychiatric facility to treat her amnesia, from where she escapes because of the horrific conditions there. She contacts the reporter who helped her during the crash, and asks for more help. She needs to know more than the information the airline gave her - her probable name, which was based on the people on the flight and her physical description. Angela Sands is the name she is told is hers, but she doesn't feel that it fits.

She needs to know more about Angela, and she needs to know why she hears voices. In comes the reporter, Dante Kearns, to help her as she struggles.

As she begins to trust him, she reveals that her ability to listen in on the thoughts of those around her is limited, and limiting. The voices and the call of the siren that they are for Angela is an intriguing plot twist, which built a good view of this woman who was both a survivor and a strong woman. Her need to overcome the call of the voices is great writing.

What I didn't like was the supernatural way that Angela changes when she hears the voices, and how the change impacts not just her but those around her. It was still an extremely interesting book, but the plus-one aspect of the siren call made it less of a strong mystery about a strong mystery woman and more of a reach into woo-woo land.

I won this ARC in a Goodreads giveaway.

I'm usually wary about reading books written by celebrities because many times the talent doesn't extend beyond the name. This book was different.

Angel begins with a woman waking up on a plane right before it crashes. The twist is she has no idea who she is. No clue. Nada. Nothing. Then the plane crashes, she's rescued, and is hoping that something--anything--will spark her memories. She is dubbed "Angel" because not only did she survive the crash, but she saves the only other survivor...a baby. While nothing about her past surfaces, she learns something about herself. She can read mens' minds, she can ferret out their deepest desires, and she can transform herself in order to meet those desires and become the object of a man's dream. But the question still remains...who is she and *what* is she?

The opening to the book is riveting. You get Angel's confusion, and fear, when the plane is crashing. You discover her "talents" as she does, and the reader is as befuddled and alarmed as Angel is over her seemingly slutty nature as she tunes into men's thoughts and reacts to their inner desires. She seems to want what they want, and is horrified. This is all the more scary to Angel because she can't remember any detail of her life...is this something that has occurred because of the plane crash? Has she always been like this? Who--and what--the heck is she?? The answers to these questions slowly unravel in a gripping read, and the mystery of her life and what she is becomes clear. It kept me turning the pages to see how it all ended.

There are some elements of the story that didn't quite work for me. Saving the baby seemed an instrument to giving Angel her nickname..."Angel" and was a tad contrived. There is no other angle for the baby, and I expected there to be more significance given the high profile of the baby in the beginning of the book and even on the book jacket. The story escalates about 3/4 of the way through as Angel and her friend, Dante, work together to settle a score...but then dips for quite a while as they work to help Angel channel her "talents". For me it takes too long to get to the end where the tension works its way up again to a climax.

Except for this minor flaw in pacing toward the end, this book was an overall good read and I enjoyed it enough to read it in a few days.

D*** my review disappeared. I'll try again.

I liked it. It was hard to decide on what genre it is though. I bought in from the sci fi section but it's not really sci fi. Nor is it urban fantasy. It's not really a romance although I suppose that is closest. The major part of the story however involves a woman with amnesia discovering that she might be reincarnated or possessed or what have you. There is a guy who helps her and they sort of have a thing but mostly it is about discovering who/what she is. There were some things that weren't perfect (interesting but random characters and inconsistent OTT powers) but on the whole the story held together. It was interesting reading about the heroine's journey to find herself.

The writing was fairly well done. Always a concern with a celebrity author although she did have help. But you won't find anything to really be upset with the writing. The plot was kind of out there but mostly made sense and flowed well. I would be happy to read a sequel which there seems to be room for but the story is pretty complete and satisfying as it ended even with a few questions left hanging.

This book was amazing! I loved the different point of views. I heard about this book from Ice loves Coco. The book sounded really good and viola, I bought it. I'm so glad I did. I couldn't put it down. It was so addicting. I loved how Angela tried to control her gift and figured out who killed her. She is so nice and sweet. Dante was awesome. I liked how he actually listened to Angela instead of automatically thinking she's crazy. He's done a lot to help Angela. I was rooting for those two the whole time. The beginning was a little slow but it definitely picked up. There were a few parts that made me laugh. The ending was really good and makes me hope for a sequel. I'd love to know who Angela Sands is. I would definitely read more books by these authors.

unbelievably amazing. different from anything I've ever read. highly recommend it !
hoping for a sequel and soon !!
so much action and suspense and lust just a wonderful array of subjects in one fantastic book .

I didn't think it would be great at first because the author ICE-T's wife just looks so superficial and not capable of writing such a masterpiece ... boy was I wrong I've really learned now to not judge a book or a person for that matter by the cover .
She has amazing thought and imagination ... although there was a co-author ... its still well written and a book I look forward to hopefully be seeing a second book from .

read it I promise you'll love it.

I got this book through my library hold system and didn't remember why I had requested it. When I saw who wrote it I was even more leery about reading it. But, being blonde myself and not wanting to perpetuate that misconsception (LOL) I started the book. The first five chapters flew by. I found it well written with an interesting plot line. I was enjoying the ride until the main character displayed so many supernatural abilities that it became unbelievable. Not a total waste of my time but I'm not sure I'll be reading the sequel that I'm certain is coming.

Found this in the SF library bookshop. Lady at the desk asked me if I knew who the author was, and didn't evidence much hope for its quality. I had not a clue who Marrow is. However, this book was a real treat. Interesting from the beginning. Leaves a number of loose plot ends, but these add more to the tension, rather than being distracting. Hard to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would call it more "romance" than paranormal or mystery. If there is one failing, it would be the ending, which was a little awkward, or even hurried. Not a big problem. The book was fun.

It was a pretty good read. Something you would read between books maybe. For me personally, it wasn't really the thriller it said it was. Had a kind of supernatural thing going to me. But it was a "light" read {compared to some of the books I have read..lol} But worth reading. :-)

I liked the book. In terms of this being the one author's debut book, it was very good. Even if believing that someone can only read the minds of men and "change," I still enjoyed the book. Kudos to Nicole "Coco" Marrow on her first book!!!
