Give My Regards to Mister Eastman

Rate this book
I recognized Hutch as a man of science and logic, open to new ideas and scientific theory. At the same time, he seemed a trusting soul. As I studied him, something came over me and before I could stop myself, I blurted out what I was thinking.
“Would you believe me if I told you I’m a time traveler?” As soon as I’d spoken, I feared I’d made a huge mistake… but it was too late to take it back.

“Oh really?” Hutch said, laughing. “And I’m the man in the moon.”

After twenty years of traveling the world with the military, Air Force veteran Tom Ashton and devoted wife Kathy decide it's time to lay down roots. Choosing the Finger Lakes region of Western New York to live out their retirement years, they purchase a home in the quaint town of Victor located just twenty miles south of Rochester, where the home of Eastman Kodak founder George Eastman is located. But shortly after settling into the area, Tom suffers a fatal heart attack, leaving sixty-year-old Kathy to face the future alone. Two years on, newly widowed Kathy is just beginning to cope with the loss of her beloved husband of forty years. Today she is meeting her friends at the Eastman House Museum in Rochester to tour an exhibit on "Occultism in Victorian New York", but first she must make a stop at the local cemetery where once a month Kathy visits her husband Tom to share her deepest thoughts and feelings and unburden her heart in preparation for the lonely weeks ahead. While there, a chance encounter with a stranger and the discovery of a mysterious medallion triggers a series of events that will change her life in ways she never imagined.

Centered on the life of American entrepreneur and inventor George Eastman and the people closest to him, Give My Regards to Mister Eastman tells a story of sixty-year-old Katherine Ashton, who finds herself mysteriously transported back in time to 1905 and the newly built home of Mister George Eastman. As Kathy tries to unravel how she ended up in the past and how she is going to get back to her own time, she becomes embroiled in a blackmail plot that could change the course of history forever.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1955, the eldest daughter of six children in a family constantly struggling to stay above the poverty line, books were always my passion—allowing me to escape the chaos that surrounded me on a daily basis and travel to distant lands across space and time. I had always aspired to be one of those great storytellers, but it wasn't until the age of 68, that I was finally able to achieve that goal.
Retiring to the Finger Lakes region of Western New York with my husband in 2015, I found my inspiration for my first novel while touring the George Eastman Museum in Rochester. Today, I am the author of two books in the Eastman House Series—𝑮𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒎𝒂𝒏 and 𝑨 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆. I am currently working on a third, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑩𝒐𝒚𝒔.

A delightful book, well researched and smartly written, with touch of sci-fi and (in my opinion) "Murdoch Mysteries." Excellent characterizations, bringing heart and soul to this story. Highly recommended, especially for those who are familiar with George Eastman and Rochester, NY.

I’m typically not a fan of time travel but this one was SO well written. It wasn’t a predictable plot, every flashback was purposeful and added to the story instead of taking away from it. I loved the sprinkle of real historical events and the descriptions of Rochester, Ny back then. Glad I went out of my comfort zone with this one!!

This was an interesting book that gave a glimpse into the lives of George Eastman and his close friends through the eyes of a time traveling sixty year old woman from 2015. The characters were interesting, especially those from 1905. The book encouraged me to find out more about George Eastman. It is always fun to read a book with references to local connections.
