Sometimes a day off… Turns into a really off day. Dogwood Donuts owner and amateur sleuth, Maggie Mission, finally has a day off and decides to go to the farmer’s market, where she has an odd encounter with two women who seem strangely interested in her purchases.
When one of the women shows up in her shop and rudely causes a scene, Maggie is convinced that she’s up to something and discovers that she’s planning to open a food truck…right across the street.
Maggie’s frustration with her soon to be competitor turns to suspicion when the woman’s body is found. It looks like Maggie is being framed for murder, which only serves to intensify her determination to get to the truth.
Hopping mad when her own food truck goes missing soon after the murder, Maggie sets out on a quest for the truth. What she uncovers is more than she bargained for.
Can she solve the crime and save the day? Find out in this twisty-turny Culinary Cozy Mystery!
Another one I wish had been a couple hundred pages longer… All Maggie did was tried to have a relaxing day off of work, but no that didn’t happen. While Maggie was at the farmers market a very… forward lady approached her asking why she bought so many strawberries 🍓 and what she planned to do with them. When Maggie told her she is going to use them for her donut 🍩 stores, the lady basically told her it was a dumb idea and when Maggie walked away from the rude lady, Maggie heard the lady tell her business partner, Angel that Maggie was the rude one. What?!
And guess what, the lady shows up in Maggie’s donut shop acting rude again. And then a couple hours later Angel goes into the donut shop asking Maggie if she’d seen her partner. Then about an hour after Angel left, the police are asking Maggie about her interactions with the strangers. What a bunch of hooey! And then one of the strangers is found dead in her car.
So Maggie finds a lead and follows it until she helps to solve the crime. Ta-dah!
I really enjoyed the few hours I spent reading books 38 - 41. I felt all warm and homey and it seemed as though I was there with Maggie and Ruby hanging out trying out new donut recipes. I’d be so good at that! Pull up a chair 🪑 next to Orson and grab a cuppa Joe ☕️ because friends stick together in Dogwood. 😊
Next is Book 42 that will be released July 17, 2024: It Curd Be Murder
While I’m waiting for the 17th, I will be reading Books 21-23 in A Little Leaf Creek Cozy Mystery series. Book 21: “Silenced in Little Leaf Creek” by Cindy Bell
Maggie either meets some of the nicest or in this case, some of the awfullest people in her line of work. And the farmers market seemed like such a safe and calm place before. Maggie really smelled a rat when one of two disagreeable business partners she met ended up dead. This wasn’t super hard to guess the killer, so for me it was more about catching them and getting proof. And she and Ruby really were suspects? Maggie needed to do something about that too. All in a day’s work for the sleuth that never stops!
A day off finds Maggie at the farmers market. She has an odd encounter with two women who seemed interested in her purchases. Then one shows up at her donut shop and causes a scene. Seems the two of them are planning to open a food truck across her shop. Things take a twisted when one of them ends up dead and Maggie is a suspect. Once again she’ll have to find her way out of a doughy mess in this yummy cozy.
Unbelievable that this series which already has over forty books still finds something fresh to add. This book is a great example of that. The story is full of great characters with a mystery that had me stumped. Looking forward to see what’s next for the donut crew!
Oh boy an odd encounter at the farmers market leads to Maggie being under suspicion yet again. Too many cooks in the kitchen so to speak nearly missed a key piece of the puzzle. Loved it very much.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
