Travis Greene has lived most of his life shrouded in fear and shadows. Fear of a father’s wrath, a mother’s disdain, and a coach’s attention. Love and intimacy came hand in hand with pain and disappointment, but he hid all of it deep inside the shadows of his damaged heart.
Adrianna Hinton was the one bright light in his pitiful childhood, the sunshine to his cloudy days. She stood by him, endured his moods, until one terrible day when his life took a tragic turn. He pushed her away, felt like he didn’t deserve her love, and has been suffering the consequences ever since.
Then Ember Craven forced her way into his life and heart, giving him the chance to have a real family, one that loves unconditionally. His heart began to heal, sealing up old wounds, and he found himself opening up to the idea of true love. But how do you choose between two people whose souls seem threaded together? Is it possible to have more than one soulmate? Emmett Torres and Adrianna Hinton are willing to give him the world, but each of them provides something different.
When life throws Travis one last curveball, all of his newly formed bonds are tested. He hits rock bottom and sees no way to claw his way up from the pit he finds himself in. Just when he thinks he couldn’t sink any lower, he realizes…
"Finding The light" is the third book of the "Whitsborough Chronicles" by the author C.A. Rene. Told in dual perspectives , get ready to meet Tristan , Emmett and Adri.
Tristan and Adri had been a long time coming and Emmett was a surprise addition to me! The book was hot and hilarious and everything I wanted. It wasn't that long and was a good one time read for me.
Tristan already had me intrigued from book 1 and so did Adri. I had been dying to know what had really happened between them and how they overcame it. The plotline of the story continues after Em and Vin's duet so it is better to read those two books before this one!
A definite recommendation to all the dark Romance lovers out there!!
Finding the Light is a much anticipated third book follow up to the Whitsborough Chronicles. The main characters are Travis and Emmett, but we see all our series favorites as well.
This installment has a series of flashbacks from Travis' POV. The rest of the book is mainly just the two previously mentioned, except for a few instances.
This is a MMF dark romance and is part of a series. I don't really recommend reading this without reading the two prior books.
There are triggers (past sexual abuse of a minor, illegal fights [to the death], drugs, murder, gore, attempted suicide, etc.).
I kept thinking while reading this how good it would be if it were a tv series. It has all the drama, sexual tension, overcoming past turmoil, fighting against people in power who use and abuse others, and more. It's just excellent drama one word at a time.
Love this installment. The characters have a depth to them that I can literally feel as I read it. Highly recommend for fans of dark romance. This is an honest review given after receiving an ARC of this book which officially releases on June 15.
I've got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Where do I start now? This is the third book in the series and so far all three of them have been amazing, although I have to say that I love mostly Ember's POV. Could be probably because I rarely read a book from male's POV so...
Regardless, this story was amazing, twisted, regretful and telling.
The worst thing probably? The way that what C.E. Rene is writing about could pretty much be also real somewhere in the world and that's not great. Which this is not bad for the book, it's just that I'm always comparing books to real life.
In this story we get a behind look on Travis and what his life growing up looked like. If you think his light was easy-breezy, you'd be mistaken. His light was anything BUT! His story was, may I dare to say, horrendous but truly strong. In some way Ember and Travis are the same. Neither of them had a pretty childhood and both of them had to deal some way with it.
What I have to admit is that I have "fast read" some parts in this book, because I just couldn't read it. It's not that it was written poorly or something, no. It was just too real for me and, let me say it because otherwise it wouldn't make sense - it was about kids. And as I have discovered that topic is a taboo for me.
Parts of this book I thought I'd scream at the author for what she did to me emotionally!
I truly liked this book a lot. It wasn't my 5 star read, hence the 4 stars, but still a truly awesome one.
There is so much more I'd say about the book, but as I'm still processing it I'm not remembering it all. Also what I'd love to talk about would probably be a spoiler and that's a no-no for me. If you'd like to know more thought, please don't hesitate to message me.
I really don't think I could do this story justice. It's literally just everything Travis's story is so absolutely heartbreaking but also it was amazing. I love how devoid of toxic masculinity it's is. There's definitely stuff in here that could've caused things to go left and thankfully it didn't.
Rene continues to blind side me and her endings leave me wanting more. Do I'm just gonna do that and jump into the next book.
Wow another amazing story in this series. At one point I will say I think I was in a complete state of shock. I literally had no idea what to do. I wanted to scream and cuss and I wanted to cry at the same time but I was to shocked to do anything. Wow what a dark story that you can't help but love. I need to know how this series ends before I lose it. Book 4 here I come!
I couldn't wait for Travis's story because I knew it was going to be a hell of a ride!
You meet Travis in book one . The hot baseball player with sadness an darkness in his eyes . If you've read book 1-2 you know his love interest is adri (which I freaking love) but Travis can't completely commit to what she needs at the moment because of his struggles . Insert Emmet (mm love hims long time) he starts to slowly break down Travis's walls ...
I think this was my favorite out of the three . The author packed SO MUCH EMOTION into this story I felt like my heart was bleeding . Just getting the whole story into Travis's background was devastating as well as Emmet's .. There was violence , angst and amazing sexy times . .. I was blown away !
5 star read for finding the light . I cannot wait for the 4th book in this series 🖤
I have wanted more of Travis ever since book 1, so I loved that this book was focused on Travis, Emmett and Adri. Don't worry, the storyline still continues on and we still get plenty of Ember and Vin. But a surprise change as we get it from the POV's of Travis and Emmett.
We finally get to know more about Travis and the dark secrets that he is hiding. Travis's childhood broke my heart. I just wanted to cry as we learnt everything that he endured.
The most beautiful part of this book was the relationship between Emmett, Travis and Adri. The coming together and the realisation and exploration of their sexualities. In the end, it doesn't matter who you love and I loved watching Emmett realise this and embrace who he truely is without shame. Adri was so accepting of both of the guys and I loved that about her character.
There was so much happening in this book! Murder, Violence, Steamy STEAMY scenes, Secrets were revealed along with unexpected twists that I never saw coming!!!
At 88% I was sobbing like a little bitch and at 89% I was cursing C.A. Rene and screaming WTF!!! Throwing my kindle at the wall and running away to have a tantrum may have happened but I am so glad I kept reading.
I am so ready for the next book of this killer series that is one hell of a ride!!!
Emmett, Travis and Adrianna are the main characters of finding the Light, and you guess it, is an MMF romance. I know, you didn’t expect that, but the whole series is unexpected, so this makes it more interesting.
Since the second book I thought that this book will be amazing and for sure it didn’t disappoint me. We get to see how their relationship develops, how they embraced their feelings for each other.
Travis had my heart in this book, he really had a rough life, under the false disguise of a wealthy and happy family, and when all he endured came into light, I felt his pain, and cried a little too. But good thing that he has Emmett and Adrianna which helped him to overcome the bad things. I love Emmett personality; he really defuses all the “explosive to be” situations between Travis and Adrianna. I liked the connection between Ember and Travis, they are not romantically involved, but their friendship is taken to a new level. Also, the bickering between Ember and Emmett is hilarious.
Even though the story focuses on different couple, we still discover secrets, it seems that the saga goes on, all the characters are involved in this big story, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays in the end.
Again I couldn't stop reading. This book broke my heart. Seriously, shattered me to my core. This book seems to center around loyalty and I love that. I love watching the dynamic of the characters. Ember is one lucky girl. Family is who you choose, not formed by blood and this book is that perfect example.
I am NOT okay! This book messed me up so bad. I was yelling at it, crying, and cursing like a crazy person! Emmett and travis are everything, and I am obsessed with their thruple!! The bond these characters build is amazing, and I cant wait to get into book 4 to see more of ember and vic!
You know, I don't like to pick favorites. Ever. Ok I lied it's been Travis all along.
I have been waiting for his story because I just knew it was going to be so so good. Now mind you, here we are at book 3 so I was prepared for trauma this time, it was very present in book 2. I steeled myself for it this time around. Mostly. Things got REALLY rough at chapter 30. I will admit I closed the book, screamed, and refused to finish it. Then I took a breath and wiped away my tears and forced myself to keep on trekking. I would have been SO angry if I hadn't.
The dynamic on this one was very different, as stated in many previous reviews this book was a MFM romance (WHY CHOOSE, AM I RIGHT!?). From book 1 I knew Travis had so much more going on than he eluded to on the surface. My curiosity was immediate. There was obvious depth to what was going on with him and Adri, then you toss Emmett into the mix and holy cow! I adore Emmett. He had me busting up throughout the whole book. Him and Ember really sucked you in and made you feel like part of the family. He is an easy contender for my favorite but I'll stick by Travis. Travis is baby. Good thing we don't really have to choose, huh? They just work so well together!
It was easy to relate to Travis on several levels for me. He went through some things that unfortunately a lot of us have also been through. It's all too common and really hard for some to cope with. While some people may criticize authors for touching on subjects like this, I for one appreciate seeing it addressed. It's a necessary evil on the road to acceptance. Once we can see that we aren't alone in it and we can see that there's nothing wrong with us for having been through it, for having the feelings we have, we can move on. Hopefully. Too often do we feel we need to suppress certain things about ourselves for the comfort of others. In the process of doing what we think may be protecting others, we lose ourselves. We die slowly and we don't always find something or someone to revive us. We plummet into darkness and it's a suffocating place.
But with a family like theirs, and a love like the one they all share, they found a way to breathe freely again. They clawed through that darkness. They overcame.
They found the light.
I'd like to think we all can. I'd like to think we all have that chance. Or maybe we'll just sport some super bright tracksuits, sign up for space camp, and call it even?
*ETA after re-write: I held off until the last minute. The very last, because this book hit me so hard the first time. When I tell you to re read some books after you've done some major real life healing... It was no less rough this time around. It was a safe place and the storm all in one. A reminder of how far we have come, the things we've survived. You read these all in. There's no other way. 😩🖤😭
And the plot thickens!!!! . This is a dark romance, mènage book with so many secrets and scandals that I’m surprised there’s more theft to uncover! . I love Emmet and Travis so much! I kinda wish it just stayed with them two, I don’t know what it is but Adri rubs me the wrong way I don’t know why lol maybe I’d just rather it was m/m then m/f/m 😆 anyway, this story was great. The suspense, tension and angst keeps building. Add in a sizzling romance between the guys and Adri and it’s a captivating read. . This plot is unbelievable. As I’ve said so many secrets and there’s still much to be revealed! I don’t know how we are going to continue going through this series. It’s definitely reached a top spot in my faves list for this year so far. . New lights we see our characters and I love still having em and vin an active part of this story even though it’s not their story for this book. I can’t imagine the prep it has taken for this series as there is so much depth and layers with more in the works in the background. The lack of plot holes blows me away. This is definitely a well written book of amazing proportions. . I’m still blown away by this story so much that I’m probably not making sense in this review but to truly understand the whirlwind I’m in you have to read for yourself. You will not be disappointed! . Amazing!!!
Another 5 star read from the Whitsborough Chronicles.
Finding the light ripped my heart out and I died. At least that’s what it felt like. It was so raw and emotional it left me breathless in some moments. Travis takes you on a journey of pain and brokenness that your not sure he will ever come back from. Will he ever find the light?
I absolutely adore the relationships between the characters and the different dynamics. The way they bring each other back from the edge. The acceptance without question. The fierce loyalty. The pure love. It made me crave what they have.
This book was so many things for me. It was emotional, it was funny, it was heartbreaking and it was definitely hot as hell. It’s real and gritty. It had all of the angst to feed my addiction. It’s dark perfection. 🖤
⚠️Trigger warning ⚠️ This book is not for the faint of heart. It has many, many triggers.
AN ANOTHER AMAZING BOOK BY THIS AUTHOR!! This book we get to follow Travis!! And if you have read book 1 & 2 then you should be as excited as I am for this one!
Learning more about Travis’s back story was absolutely gut wrenching. Everything this poor boy went through! I am so glad he had Emmett, Adrianna, Ember and Vin to lean on!!! This book was an emotional one!! I can’t wait for book 4 and for more of my favorite characters!!! I don’t think I can ever get enough!!!
I have loved Travis from the very beginning, so I was super excited to finally get his story. To say I was not prepared for the emotional journey it was, would be an understatement. My heart was completely broken at the things that he had to endure. With that being said his relationship with Emmett and Adri was pure perfection, and I could not get enough. Once again I can't wait to see how this series finishes out!
Another great addition to this series!! I thought the first two books were dark and steamy but, holy F, this book went above and beyond. I have been excited for Travis’ story since book one and I have to say my heart broke for him multiple times in this story. If you have read books 1&2 you need to read this next installment. And, on another note, it is a MMF romance and DAMN it is HOTTT!
Wow!!! The author does it again. I was not able to put down the book. I loved every minute of Emmets and Travis story. Their story has twist and turns. You must read all the books to understand what each character means and the stories they went thru. Definitely recommend this series and this book.
This book was amazing. An emotional journey of love between three people who have to work out what that will look like for them, and overcoming a traumatic past that has left scars on your soul. I love m/m romance and the journey is always so different to what a m/f relationship is. This series really is a must read.
I read the first version of this when it got released and the 2nd version I loved just as much, maybe more. These characters feel like family to me at this point being a big fan of the author. Fantastic read filled with emotions.
Book 3 takes a little bit of a detour. This book mainly focuses on Travis and Emmett through their own POV as Ember and Vin have left the country to track down Talia who is supposedly the mastermind of everything that is Embers life...The timing of this book could not have been better. It gave us an intermission to the savagery that is Embers life and gives us this beautiful journey of love between not only Adri and Travis, but Adri, Travis, and Emmett. It truly tells us the tale that brings these broken souls together and the acceptance that they are beginning to feel. They are finally realizing that they are capable to love and to receive love and wow it does not disappoint. The way this author writes these characters is honeslty second to none. She writes them with a realness that is refreshing. They make mistakes, they are not perfect and its a truly beautiful story. It shows us the journey to find Travis mom , it shows us depression and mental health. Its a incredible journey and I was crying through most of this book. There was one part where I literally was not sure that i could turn the page. I was like I cannot go on. But I did and man I am so happy I did. There are MANY triggers in this book but if you take the chance and just go for it, you will be rewarded in the end...I find my self wishing that I could start all over again fresh. These boys are in my heart forever and it shows us that if you find your people, you can start to heal and find the light after the darkness...
Find the Light is the third book in Whitsborough Chronicles by C.A. Rene. This is a MMF dark romance that has a lot of triggers. It is narrated from the dual POV of Travis and Emmett because this story is about their journey. Travis’s POV uses a dual timeline that changes between the present And his memories of the past. Both Travis and Emmett had really traumatic pasts which they must face head on. This has to be my favourite book from the series because I absolutely love Travis and Emmett because I find them to be so intriguing. And damn Adrianna definitely plays a great role in this story.
I thought that I was prepared for anything that could happen after reading the first books but I wasn’t and this messed me up badly. I absolutely love Travis and my heart shattered into a million pieces when I found out about everything that happened to him. Chapter 28 to 30 are the WORST chapters so be prepared for that. I was so shocked that I had to reread it several times before I moved on so that I could understand what just happened and prepare myself for what was next. Well played C.A. Rene you got me again. *Sticks middle finger up*.
Finding the Light is absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful because through all of the pain and trauma both characters discover the light not only in each other but also in those around them. The family they have created played a very big part in this story. This book is an example of why C.A. Rene has became one of my favourite authors.
I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.
OMG! This story had my heart in a chokehold the whole way through. The angst, drama and emotional turmoil oozed off the pages and kept me either laughing, crying or just seething with such intense anger. There were a few moments where I needed to put the book down, take a few deep breaths and wipe the tears off my face before I could even fathom getting further into the story.
I loved Emmett right from the very first moment we were introduced to him. He’s definitely the other half of Ember that’s been missing in this series. He’s sweet, silly, has a filthy mouth and totally unhinged when necessary. The way that he brings Travis out of his darkness made me love him even more. And his growing relationship with Adri was perfect.
Adri and Travis have a lot to work out in their relationship, but you could feel the immense amount of love they have for each other even if they don’t want to show it.
I loved the dynamics of the three of them together. Their banter and chemistry was incredible and felt totally organic. The way that they help each other heal was just incredible and had me all up in my feelings! And the spicy moments between them were sizzling HOT and utterly delicious!
This story was incredible. It was dark, gritty, raw, emotional, intense, tragic, violent, heartbreaking, passionate and filled with incredible love. The twists and turns throughout had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through and the end was just exceptional!
Finding the Light is book three in the Whitsborough Chronicles series. Ember and Vin are off on a trip, so this book is told from dual points of view by Emmett and Travis. Travis was asked to stay behind and watch Ember's twin brother Emmett. Emmett is new to Whitsborough, and Ember didn't want him alone. We learn Travis is bisexual and is having trouble keeping his feelings for Emmett to himself.
Both Travis and Emmett have been through some rough times in the past. We get to see what happened to each of them, and how it has shaped who they are today.
Travis and Emmett both start to have feelings for Adri, but Travis is also smitten with Emmett. Emmett is also confused about his feelings for Travis. Will they decide to try a three-person relationship? How will Adri take this?
So much happens in this book, and I loved every minute of it. What happens when Adri finds out what type of fights Ember does? Will Travis get revenge on someone that hurt him growing up? What happens when Adri finds out a big secret from her past?
Let's begin with that I was warned twice! Twice! To prepare myself. First by @talknerdypr and then also in the dedication.
....I didn't prepare myself enough for the how much my heart would break over and over again.....but I would still read it over again.
This novel really was about growing, accepting past events, and being able to find the light (no pun) to move forward.
Finding the light gives more detail and backstory to Travis' and Emmet's childhood, upbringing and life. So it does have a lot of scenes which could trigger you.
It also has really wholesome themes such as watching the growing relationships, as well as the bonds of friendship and family.
It stays on track with the overarching plot and you learn just how twisted and corrupt whitsborough is.
Honestly, Finding the light is such a beautiful addition to the series and I can't wait to dive in and read To Redemption
This book is MFM and tell us about Travis, Emmett and of course, Adri. I wasn’t ready for this and did not exactly expect this to happen but I'm happy it did since Travis had a chance to find the light and came out of the darkness around him.
Learning about Travis made my life harder and better at the same time. Since book 1 I wanted to know more about him since I found him intriguing to say at least.
There are a couple of things I wanted to say about this book but I think I'll just leave with this quote: “everything was dark and I couldn’t focus on the things that brought me light.” This quote is so powerful and sometimes we might feel that way so I wanted to tell you that are reading this, please talk to someone. I know it's not easy but I really hope you find that person/thing that helps you through the dark.
This book contains triggers and even when I usually don't care that much, I had to stop reading for a couple of minutes and cry in a corner, so- be careful.
People need to make sure they have tissues in hand when reading this book. I was not ready. Now this book has our girl Ember and Vin in it but focus is more on Travis and Emmett. They have gone through their own traumas and Ember has become their light in the darkness. Fate has managed to bring all these people together and their anchor seems to be Ember. She gives them strength and they in turn give her what she needs to not give into her darkness. She fights for her family that she has created and dang it is incredible to read. This book was incredible and yet so heartbreaking. I cried I really did. I definitely recommend this book.
Holly shit, I almost had a heart attack with the scare this author pulled on us. You can't do this shit to us! We get emotional invested in these characters, I couldn't bear the pain if one of them died. Fuck. This author is ruthless, and so fucking talented. This series just get better and better. I loved to read Travis and Emmett's POV, we got to know more about them, dig deeper into their demons. And it was so fucking painful. I wouldn't wish this hell on my worst enemy. Or maybe I would, depending on what that person did. Damn I think I'm getting the Ember fever. Moving on... I loved to see their relationship evolve, from stolen glances and touches to a beautiful and heart warming love. They were made for each other, and I couldn't be happier for them. Now let's see what more this author has in store for these amazing characters 🖤
Finding The Light by C.A. Rene is a dark revenge romance. This is the third book in the Whitsborough Chronicles series and should be read in order.
This book does come with a Trigger Warning "Past sexual abuse of a minor, murder, attempted suicide."
I absolutely love C.A. Rene's books! She does an amazing job pulling me into the story. There are so many twists and turns in this series that kept me captivated until the very end. I loved that this book was centered around Emmett and Travis. I absolutely love these two!
I really liked that we got Emmett, Travis, and Ember's point of view throughout the book. It really brings the story to life.
The book does end on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series To Redemption.
I would highly recommend this series if you like dark romances, contemporary romances, or romantic suspense.
Jesus this woman can write. Finding the Light is Book 3 in the Whitsborough Chronicles.
Centred around Travis, Emmett and past events merged with present pains. If book one was a grey scale book, book 2 was a nice dark romance book, this one, book 3, is god damned dark and twisted. My heart and soul hurt for these poor children. Travis is a saint, with a broken heart and a tortured soul. Emmett is a sheltered, sweet and strong man.
This book will haunt you and soothe those scars of history, But beware the dark, twisted and depraved secrets that unfold.
