A great book to help share my excitement about the moon landing anniversary with the little people that I love. I think they will get a kick out of this one, and I love the format of the book. This is a great series.
For kindergarten through second grade students, this excellent book illustrates to students what it is like to be on the moon. I would use this book in the classroom to help students identify the moon parts and the features of the moon. The students can visually take a journey on the moon while reading and flipping through the book and using their imagination.
This book would be perfectly suited for third graders. They learn about what they see each day in the night sky and learn about the moon. A fun activity to do with them together would be to create our own class moon! On that moon we either draw, create objects, or write information on it!This way they get to look at the moon all day, instead of just at night.
This book was updated in 1986 (first published in 1963 – how did they know what the moon was like then?), and that’s the version I have. I love the contrast between the desolate, stagnant moon and the lovely, changing and colorful Earth. I also love the last pages confident suggestion of moon colonies. Ha.
I just wish they had actually used a few more photographs instead of primarily illustrations, but maybe they didn't have photographs that portrayed exactly what they wanted to show. Very good at addressing a topic that interests many children.
36 months - A great starter book for preschoolers who have little knowledge of space, the moon etc. Especially good for kids who enjoy a simple picture book format rather than the typical encyclopedic format with numerous images and bullets filling a page.
This is a book with lots of very interesting facts and information about the moon, presented in an easy to understand way. At the back of the book are suggested activities to do. Very nicely illustrated.
