Rounding up, I thought this was a fantastic, coming of age fantasy. I think this story is very appropriate for both young adult and adult audiences, but I loved following Xanya and Dominic's story from childhood to early adult, with a particular joy seeing them those first few scenes as grown up best friends! And Marania is actually one of my favorite villains I've read in a long while. She had such a complex character, it was both thrilling and intriguing to experience her POV.
The writing was really well done. The worldbuilding has such a unique and compelling tale as we follow the different peoples across Enderhail, and no spoilers, you won't see that ending coming. I can't wait to explore the world more in the sequels and see whats in store for our new surprise villains and favorite protagonists.
A great fantasy debut! I was lucky enough to be able to read this before it released, and the Wake of the Huntress is full of action and intrigue! The world was vivid, and the descriptions throughout the book were beautiful and very visual. The characters were well-written and I actually really enjoyed the POV from Marania, who was very compelling as a character, despite her choices. There were hints of magic in this world, but not a lot, but it's part of the story as to why there's not a lot, and so I'm interested to continue this series to learn more about the magic in this world! There are parts that will make you cheer and parts that will rip your heart out! I can't wait for the next book!
This story is at once epic and concise, a rarity in the fantasy genre, and I love it. Tullis' writing style grabs you right out of the gate and doesn't let go. I came for the adventure, was grabbed by the mystery, and stayed for the endearing relationships.
The POV does hop around among the characters, which normally gets on my nerves, but this story always seemed to put us on the POV we most cared about and most needed, so I didn't mind at all. A beautiful debut novel, I can't wait for the sequel.
Amanda took her time setting the scene and introducing all the characters. The villains are compex and the protagonists have a nice dynamic. About 2/3 into the book, I was sure I knew what was going to happen.... And then that is not what happened. I felt all the emotions while reading. Amanda did a good job of tackling hard topics and making the reader care about the characters. Appropriate for a middle schooler, but enjoyable for adults as well. Overall, a very enjoyable read, and I am excited for the next book to come out.
